The importance of using diffraction calculation over spot size measurement in determining intensity is discussed.

The aberrations of the paraboloid and the low-energy reference laser beam were measured and corrected, and a focal spot size of 0.8 pm was achieved. It is shown that the peak intensity can be increased to 1.0 x 1022'V'lf cm2 by correction of the wave front of a 45-TW beam relative to the reference beam. The phase and amplitude measurement provides for an efficient full characterization of the focal fieid.

The comparison between the experiment and the Ammosov-Delone-Krainov model will be presented. The dynamics of electrons ionized from high

In this summary, we present the first Yb:GdCOB regenerative chirped pulse amplification system to produce 12-mJ, and 350-fs pulses. We have extracted reasonable amount of energy from Yb:GdCOB. If we employ a diode-pumping scheme, we could obtain hundreds, of milli-joule pulses with high repetition rate

Scaling with intensity is found to improve pulse brevity and focusability greatly while the efficiency of the attosecond pulse generation continues to remain high. Practical consideration of the tools needed to generate such pulses indicates that such interactions are surprisingly accessible. We mention some introductory experiments whereby we may verify the theoretical predictions of this new class of attosecond pulses. This technique may enable us to reach the Schwinger intensity 10 29 W cm À2 .
