Genetic parameters, which include genetic variability, heritability, and correlation between char... more Genetic parameters, which include genetic variability, heritability, and correlation between characters, are essential factors in the selection process. This study aims to: 1) determine the genetic variability and heritability for agronomic characters in hybrid maize and 2) determine the characteristics that directly affect hybrid maize yield. The experiment was conducted at Indonesian Cereal Research Institute (ICERI) Maros from June to October 2021. Fourteen maize hybrids genotypes were arranged in a randomized block design (RBD) with four replications. The observed traits were plant height, ear height, stalk diameter, leaf angle, leaf length, leaf width, days to anthesis, days to silking, days to maturity, number of harvested plants, number of harvested ears, fresh ear weight, shelling percentage, moisture content, ear length, ear diameter, number of rows per ear, number of seeds per row, 1000 seeds weight and yield. The results showed that agronomic characters with high heritability and broad genetic variability were plant height, ear height, leaf angle, leaf length, ear diameter, and 1000 seeds weight. The characters that most influence final yield were fresh ear weight and shelling percentage

The yield range of the hybrids were 8.43-9.90 t/ha, significantly higher than Bisi 18, P 27, P 36 varieties were 7.13 t/ha. Traits such as small leaf angle, erect leaf, root and stem lodging resistance, stem diameter, leaf length, ear diameter, and kernel row number were significantly correlated with high yield under high plant population density.

This study aims to determine the general combining ability of the yield characters of shading tolerant maize lines and the genetic parameters of their agronomic characters. This research was conducted at IP2TP Bajeng in December 2020-March 2021. The study was arranged in a randomized block design with three replications. The genotypes used were nine hybrids obtain from a partial diallelic (2x6). The results showed that line SHD3 showed good general ability for yield. High heritability values were shown by variables days to anthesis, days to silk, plant height, ear height, leaf length, leaf width, 100 grains weight and ear diameter.

Maize development in Indonesia is directed at marginal land due to limited fertile land, especially in other lands in Indonesia besides Java. Therefore, the assembly of low N tolerant maize varieties plays an important role in increasing production on marginal land. The improvement of low N tolerant hybrid maize was required. Information on the combining ability of inbred lines was important in the hybrid maize breeding program. This research aims were to determine genetic parameters, general combining ability, specific combining ability of maize lines and at three levels of N fertilization. This research was conducted at the Bajeng Experimental farm South Sulawesi from August to November 2019. The research was arranged in a split-plot design with two replications. The main plots were three nitrogen levels i.e. 0 kg N/ ha, 100 kg N/ha, 200 kg N/ha and the subplots were 36 hybrids formed from a half diallel cross and its parents. The results showed that compared to yield at 200 kg N/ha, yield at 100 kg N/ha and 0 kg N/ha reduced 18,80% and 38,69% respectively. ear number, ear weight, shelling percentage and number of seeds per row were controlled by non-additive genes, while moisture content, 100 seeds weight, ear length and number of rows per ear were controlled by additives gene. Lines AVLN 118-7 and AVLN 83-2 have good GCA for yield grain overall levels of fertilization. Crosses AVLN 83-2/AVLN 124-4, AVLN 83-2/AVLN 32-8, and AVLN 122-2/ AVLN 124-9 have the good combining ability under both low and high N conditions. They could be used to develop low N tolerant varieties.

The using of simultaneous stability analysis methods can provide more authentic stability information. This study aims to 1) determine the yield stability of the promising low N tolerance hybrid maize varieties, 2) to obtain varieties that have high yield and stability and under optimal and sub-optimal conditions. This research was conducted at Bajeng Experimental farm, Gowa, South Sulawesi. The research was arranged in a split-plot design with two replications. Three levels of fertilizer N (N0 = 0 kg N ha-1, N1 = 100 kg N ha-1 and N2 = 200 kg N ha-1) as the main plot and 39 genotypes of maize (36 hybrids resulting from crosses of low N and 3 checks varieties Nasa 29, Bisi 18 and Jakorin 1) as the subplot. The variable measured was grain yield. The yield stability analyses were performed by Francis and Kannenberg, Finlay and Wilkinson, Eberhart and Russel, and GGE Biplot methods. The results showed that there were no genotypes stable in overall the four methods, but three genotypes considered as stable genotype based on two methods. H5, H6 and H15 genotype were the genotypes with high stability and high yield. The three genotypes had the opportunity to be released as a low Nitrogen tolerant maize hybrid.

Percobaan dilakukan dua tahap yaitu pembentukan hibrida dari galur-galur prolifik dengan metode testcross dan evaluasi hibrida yang terbentuk dengan menggunakan rancangan alfa lattice dengan tiga ulangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan galur G7 memiliki nilai daya gabung umum yang baik untuk karakter persentase tanaman prolifik. Hibrida G35/G102612 merupakan hibrida uji dengan persentase tanaman prolifik tertinggi 55,8%. Hibrida G7/Mal03 dengan hasil biji 12,9 t ha-1 dan persentase tanaman prolifik 53,9% merupakan jagung hibrida prolifik dengan hasil tinggi. Aksi gen non aditif lebih berperan dalam penampilan karakter komponen hasil pada jagung prolifik. Kata kunci: daya gabung, line x tester, prolifik.

ABSTRAK Keberhasilan seleksi tanaman melalui pemuliaan ditentukan oleh keragaman genetik, nilai h... more ABSTRAK Keberhasilan seleksi tanaman melalui pemuliaan ditentukan oleh keragaman genetik, nilai heritabilitas, korelasi antara karakter agronomi dan hasil panen. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui keragaman genetik, heritabilitas, dan pengaruh karakter agronomi terhadap hasil jagung hibrida. Percobaan dilaksanakan pada Februari-Mei 2016 di Kabupaten Grobogan, Jawa Tengah. Perlakuan terdiri atas 12 genotipe jagung hibrida, menggunakan rancangan acak kelompok dengan tiga ulangan. Karakter yang diamati adalah tinggi tanaman, tinggi letak tongkol, jumlah tongkol panen, bobot kupasan basah, rendemen, kadar air panen, bobot 100 biji, panjang tongkol, diameter tongkol, jumlah baris per tongkol, jumlah biji per baris, dan hasil panen biji. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan tingginya keragaman genetik karakter agronomi jagung hibrida, kecuali diameter tongkol. Hampir semua nilai heritabilitas komponen hasil termasuk tinggi, kecuali bobot tongkol panen dan diameter tongkol. Secara genotipik, pengaruh langsung karakter tinggi tanaman, tinggi letak tongkol, dan panjang tongkol terhadap hasil biji tergolong tinggi. Secara fenotipik hanya bobot tongkol panen yang berpengaruh langsung terhadap hasil biji. This research was aimed to determine the yield stability of promising experimental maize hybrids in eight locations based GGE biplot method. Ten promising experimental maize hybrids and two commercial hybrid varieties as check, namely: HBSTK01, HBSTK03, HBSTK05, HBSTK06, HBSTK07, HBSTK08, HBSTK09, HBSTK10, HBSTK11, HBSTK13 and Bima 16 and Pertiwi 3 were evaluated in eight locations, ie. Bangka (Bangka Belitung), Probolinggo (East Java), Minahasa Utara (North Sulawesi), Donggala (Central Sulawesi), Soppeng, South Sulawesi, Gowa (South Sulawesi, Konawe (Southeast Sulawesi)and Lombok Barat (West Nusa Tenggara) from May to October 2013. The treatments were arranged in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with 3 replications. Variable measured was grain yield. Analysis of variance was performed for data from each study site, to determine the performance of each genotype at each location. Yield stability analysis was performed by GGE biplot method using PB tools software. Results showed that genotype H9 (HBSTK11) had the highest biological stability with grain yield of 10.37 t/ha, higer than the overal mean yield. The best hybrid with the highest yield and good stability was hybrid H6 (HBSTK08) of 11.08 t/ha. This experimental hybrid is considered potential to be released as new hybrid variety. North Minahasa is considered the most suitable location for testing where as Konawe and West Lombok are least suitable compared with the other locations.

characters in maize and the characters that affect the yield of hybrid maize. This
experiment was conducted at the Bajeng IP2TP, Indonesian Cereal Research Institute,
Gowa, South Sulawesi from March to June 2022. The treatments consisted of ten hybrid
maize genotypes. The treatments were arranged in a Randomized Complete Block Design
(RCBD) with three replications. The variables observed were the agronomic component
and yield component. Pearson's correlation was used to determine the relationship between
characters, and the characters that affected the grain yield were determined by path

The yield range of the hybrids were 8.43-9.90 t/ha, significantly higher than Bisi 18, P 27, P 36 varieties were 7.13 t/ha. Traits such as small leaf angle, erect leaf, root and stem lodging resistance, stem diameter, leaf length, ear diameter, and kernel row number were significantly correlated with high yield under high plant population density.

This study aims to determine the general combining ability of the yield characters of shading tolerant maize lines and the genetic parameters of their agronomic characters. This research was conducted at IP2TP Bajeng in December 2020-March 2021. The study was arranged in a randomized block design with three replications. The genotypes used were nine hybrids obtain from a partial diallelic (2x6). The results showed that line SHD3 showed good general ability for yield. High heritability values were shown by variables days to anthesis, days to silk, plant height, ear height, leaf length, leaf width, 100 grains weight and ear diameter.

Therefore, the assembly of low N tolerant maize varieties plays an important role in increasing production on marginal land. The improvement of low N tolerant hybrid maize was required. Information on the combining ability of inbred lines was important in the hybrid maize breeding program. This research aims were to determine genetic parameters, general combining ability, specific combining ability of maize lines and at three levels of N fertilization. This research was conducted at the Bajeng Experimental farm South Sulawesi from August to November 2019. The research was arranged in a split-plot design with two replications. The main plots were three nitrogen levels i.e. 0 kg N/ ha, 100 kg N/ha, 200 kg N/ha and the subplots were 36 hybrids formed from a half diallel cross and its parents. The results showed that compared to yield at 200 kg N/ha, yield at 100 kg N/ha and 0 kg N/ha reduced 18,80% and 38,69% respectively. ear number, ear weight, shelling percentage and number of seeds per row were controlled by non-additive genes, while moisture content, 100 seeds weight, ear length and number of rows per ear were controlled by additives gene. Crosses AVLN 83-2/AVLN 124-4, AVLN 83-2/AVLN 32-8, and AVLN 122-2/ AVLN 124-9 have the good combining ability under both low and high N conditions. The using of simultaneous stability analysis methods can provide more authentic stability information. This study aims to 1) determine the yield stability of the promising low N tolerance hybrid maize varieties, 2) to obtain varieties that have high yield and stability and under optimal and sub-optimal conditions. This research was conducted at Bajeng Experimental farm, Gowa, South Sulawesi. The research was arranged in a split-plot design with two replications. Three levels of fertilizer N (N0 = 0 kg N ha-1, N1 = 100 kg N ha-1 and N2 = 200 kg N ha-1) as the main plot and 39 genotypes of maize (36 hybrids resulting from crosses of low N and 3 checks varieties Nasa 29, Bisi 18 and Jakorin 1) as the subplot. The variable measured was grain yield. The yield stability analyses were performed by Francis and Kannenberg, Finlay and Wilkinson, Eberhart and Russel, and GGE Biplot methods. The results showed that there were no genotypes stable in overall the four methods, but three genotypes considered as stable genotype based on two methods. H5, H6 and H15 genotype were the genotypes with high stability and high yield. The three genotypes had the opportunity to be released as a low Nitrogen tolerant maize hybrid.

Percobaan dilakukan dua tahap yaitu pembentukan hibrida dari galur-galur prolifik dengan metode testcross dan evaluasi hibrida yang terbentuk dengan menggunakan rancangan alfa lattice dengan tiga ulangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan galur G7 memiliki nilai daya gabung umum yang baik untuk karakter persentase tanaman prolifik. Hibrida G35/G102612 merupakan hibrida uji dengan persentase tanaman prolifik tertinggi 55,8%. Hibrida G7/Mal03 dengan hasil biji 12,9 t ha-1 dan persentase tanaman prolifik 53,9% merupakan jagung hibrida prolifik dengan hasil tinggi. Aksi gen non aditif lebih berperan dalam penampilan karakter komponen hasil pada jagung prolifik. Kata kunci: daya gabung, line x tester, prolifik.

Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui keragaman genetik, heritabilitas, dan pengaruh karakter agronomi terhadap hasil jagung hibrida. Percobaan dilaksanakan pada Februari-Mei 2016 di Kabupaten Grobogan, Jawa Tengah. Perlakuan terdiri atas 12 genotipe jagung hibrida, menggunakan rancangan acak kelompok dengan tiga ulangan. Karakter yang diamati adalah tinggi tanaman, tinggi letak tongkol, jumlah tongkol panen, bobot kupasan basah, rendemen, kadar air panen, bobot 100 biji, panjang tongkol, diameter tongkol, jumlah baris per tongkol, jumlah biji per baris, dan hasil panen biji. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan tingginya keragaman genetik karakter agronomi jagung hibrida, kecuali diameter tongkol. Hampir semua nilai heritabilitas komponen hasil termasuk tinggi, kecuali bobot tongkol panen dan diameter tongkol. Secara genotipik, pengaruh langsung karakter tinggi tanaman, tinggi letak tongkol, dan panjang tongkol terhadap hasil biji tergolong tinggi. Secara fenotipik hanya bobot tongkol panen yang berpengaruh langsung terhadap hasil biji. This research was aimed to determine the yield stability of promising experimental maize hybrids in eight locations based GGE biplot method. Ten promising experimental maize hybrids and two commercial hybrid varieties as check, namely: HBSTK01, HBSTK03, HBSTK05, HBSTK06, HBSTK07, HBSTK08, HBSTK09, HBSTK10, HBSTK11, HBSTK13 and Bima 16 and Pertiwi 3 were evaluated in eight locations, ie. Bangka (Bangka Belitung), Probolinggo (East Java), Minahasa Utara (North Sulawesi), Donggala (Central Sulawesi), Soppeng, South Sulawesi, Gowa (South Sulawesi, Konawe (Southeast Sulawesi)and Lombok Barat (West Nusa Tenggara) from May to October 2013. The treatments were arranged in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with 3 replications. Variable measured was grain yield. Analysis of variance was performed for data from each study site, to determine the performance of each genotype at each location. Yield stability analysis was performed by GGE biplot method using PB tools software. Results showed that genotype H9 (HBSTK11) had the highest biological stability with grain yield of 10.37 t/ha, higer than the overal mean yield. The best hybrid with the highest yield and good stability was hybrid H6 (HBSTK08) of 11.08 t/ha. This experimental hybrid is considered potential to be released as new hybrid variety. North Minahasa is considered the most suitable location for testing where as Konawe and West Lombok are least suitable compared with the other locations.
