The Inaugural Global Congress convened over 180 experts from 32 countries and six continents to re-articulate the public interest dimension in intellectual property law and policy. The Congress adopted a series of specific recommendations for action by a global network of public interest scholars and advocates, which are expressed below.

However, studies examining the relationship between pleasant weather and tipping behavior have involved relatively small samples of participants and daily observations. In addition, only one such study used actual weather data to examine this relationship. We address these shortcomings by testing empirically the weather-tipping relationship on 2 years of actual sales data from a busy restaurant. We found no statistically significant relationship between sunshine and tipping. Tipping appears to be better explained as an institutional standard or norm, rather than as a prosocial behavior that can be modulated by weather-induced changes in mood.j asp_813 702..716 1 The authors thank the two anonymous reviewers for their many excellent suggestions; the owner of the restaurant studied in this paper for giving us access to his credit-card receipts; Tatyana Donova for transcribing those receipts; and Paul Ruud, Michael Lynn, and Heather Molleur for their encouragement in pursuing tipping research with credit-card data. Any errors are our own.

A high-throughput screening effort identified the pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine scaffold as a potent inhibitor of Jak2. Optimization of lead compounds 7a-b and 8 in this chemical series for activity against Jak2, selectivity against other Jak family kinases, and good in vivo pharmacokinetic properties led to the discovery of 7j. In a SET2 xenograft model that is dependent on Jak2 for growth, 7j demonstrated a time-dependent knock-down of pSTAT5, a downstream target of Jak2.

Research paper thumbnail of Do consumers prefer round prices? Evidence from pay-what-you-want decisions and self-pumped gasoline purchases

Journal of Economic Psychology, 2013

ABSTRACT Consumers selected round prices and/or sales-totals at greater than chance levels across... more ABSTRACT Consumers selected round prices and/or sales-totals at greater than chance levels across two different pay-what-you-want situations and one self-pumped gasoline purchase. The differences among these situations suggest that the tendency to select round prices/sales-totals reflects a subjective preference (or liking) for round prices and not a variety of other potential explanatory processes. Discussion focuses on possible economic consequences of this revealed preference for round prices as well as directions for future research.

Atherosclerosis, 1998

The purpose of this study was to concurrently assess the relationship of Apolipoprotein E (APOE) ... more The purpose of this study was to concurrently assess the relationship of Apolipoprotein E (APOE) with both dementias and vascular illnesses in the very old. Nine hundred and fifty nine subjects (mean age 85 years) in a long-term care facility were genotyped and cognitively tested with the Mini Mental State Exam. All subjects were studied for the relationship of APOE with atherosclerotic heart disease, hypertension, or stroke without concomitant dementia. Four hundred fifty individuals met criteria for inclusion into one of the following groups: Alzheimer's disease (n= 318), vascular dementia (n =49), or not demented controls (n =83) and were investigated for the relationship between APOE and these diagnostic categories. APOE 4 was not associated with atherosclerotic heart disease, hypertension, or stroke without concomitant dementia. The APOE 3 allele was more common in men with atherosclerotic heart disease. In contrast, the APOE 4 allele was more common in patients with Alzheimer's disease (22%) and vascular dementia (26%) than in not demented controls (7%). APOE 4 is associated with dementias in the very old, whereas its relationship with either peripheral or central nervous system vascular disease without dementia is not as robust.
