Form the last two decades a lot of progress has been seen to isolate substance of high nutrition and medicinal values from the daily consumable items. It is proved that these dietary supplements derived from plants and animals have benefits to the body or may supply the body with essential fatty acids, proteins or other nutrients which are helpful in improving body function. The especial food entities with such benefits are termed as nutraceuticals. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the use of nutraceuticals among the inhabitant of Penang, Malaysia. Furthermore, this study also aims to understand the population need for the nutraceutical use and difference in nutraceutical use among the inhabitants. Method: A cross sectional study conducted among the inhabitants of Penang using a structured twenty three item questionnaire. A non-probability sampling method was used to approach the potential participants. Chi Square test was used to test the difference between proportions. However, in the case where 2x2 tables have expected cell count less than five among 25% of the cells then Fischer exact test was preferred over Chi Square. Results: A total of seven hundred respondents were approached for their participation in this study. Of whom four hundred showed their willingness to participate in the study with a response rate of 57.1%. Majority 218 (54.5%) of the respondents were female. Findings demonstrated that 267(66.8%) of the respondents were familiar with the use of nutraceuticals and 282 (70.5%) have used or using nutraceuticals. Most of the respondents 294 (73.6%) believe that nutraceuticals are safe to use. While evaluating respondents perceptions toward the use of nutraceutical, the use of nutraceuticals to cure the medical complications was found statistically significant (x 2 = 21.196, df=3, p= 0.000). In addition to this other disclosed the nutraceutical use to improve the body function [i.e overall organs performance], to improve the mental performance and to reduce weight. Conclusion: Malaysian population was found familiar with the nutraceuticals and nearly all participants of this study have reported their use. The use of nutraceuticals was higher among Chinese women in comparison to other ethnic groups' i.e Malay and Indians. In general it was found that majority believe that nutraceuticals are safe to use, for general well being. Women were more likely to use nutraceuticals for sliming purpose, while men reported to improve the body function.

Only a small subset of prostate cancer patients will require more intensive adjuvant therapy. There is currently no biomarker that can predict disease aggressiveness at the time of surgery. Methods: We analyzed miRNA expression in 41 patients (the discovery set) which were dichotomized into; 'high risk'- experienced biochemical failure within 24 months after radical prostatectomy (n=26) and 'low risk' who did not have biochemical failure for at least 35 months (n=15). The validation set consisted of 72 cases. Total RNA was isolated from FFPE cores. cDNA was prepared for each patients and expression miRNA expression was screened by qRT-PCR –based panel. miRNAs were ranked by non-parametric tests. Linear regression models were built to predict biochemical failure. We used TargetScan for miRNA target prediction. Targets were validated by transient transfection of synthetic miRNA precursors followed by qRT-PCR quantification of the targets. Proliferation was assessed by measuring cell viability. Results: We compared the expression of 754 mature human miRNAs in patients with ‘high’ or ‘low’ risk for biochemical failure. We identified 24 miRNAs that were differentially expressed between the risk groups. We developed three logistic regression models, based on the expression of 2-3 miRNAs (PPV=100% and NPV ranges 86.4-100%). We confirmed the differential expression on the study set and on a larger, independent set of PCa pateints. We also validated one model on an independent set of patients. Further, we show that transfection of miR-152 and miR-331-3p, featured in the logistic regression models, altered proliferation of PCa3 and DU145 cells. Target prediction indicated Erbb3 and Erbb2 as potential direct targets and their mRNA expression significantly reduced when miR-152 and miR-331-3p were overexpressed. Conclusions: Altered miR-331-3p and miR-152 expression represent a potential tool for assessing the risk of early biochemical failure. These miRNAs may act through the Erbb family to induce an alternative way of AR activation.

Hydra is a cnidarian freshwater polyp characterized by an amazing regenerative capacity, leading to the re-development of any missing body part. Components of the Hippo/Mst pathway are highly conserved in Hydra. In this study, we show that the Mst, LATS and 14-3-3 proteins are strongly expressed in fast cycling cells, i.e. pairs of interstitial stem cells and clusters of nematoblasts. We also show that the Hydra transcriptional coactivator YAP (hyYAP) can sense cell density. Indeed GFP-hyYAP expressed in human U2OS cells is cytoplasmic in high density cells but nuclear in those maintained at low density. Moreover Hydra Yap can rescue the human Yap function in U2OS cells, by up-regulating Cyclin-E, a target gene of the Yap/Tef complex. Results presented in this paper are based on field data and numerical simulation work on two wells in an offshore Louisiana field. Testing results taken after completing the first well in the field with a gravel pack, gave considerably lower than expected permeability results that could have jeopardized the future development of the field. Well performance analysis based on pre-gravel pack flow, as well as investigation of existing well log data, indicated the possibility of a layer of higher permeability within the tested interval. In consideration of this analysis, a decision was made to proceed with the drilling of a second well in the field and perform a pre-gravel pack test to obtain original reservoir data. Then, the completion design for the second well and the treatment strategy for the first well would be based on the proposed pre-gravel pack test results of the second well. The pre-completion impulse testing of the second well, drilled to the same reservoir, gave a higher calculated permeability than the first well, confirming our expectation. A new completion design was proposed and implemented on the second well. Post-completion transient testing indicated that the second well completion maintained communication with the higher permeability layer allowing the evaluation of the well completion skin. The new reservoir permeability then used in reservoir simulation resulted in a more reliable field production performance prediction and evaluation. Well log data, well test data, completion design, and reservoir simulation results are presented in this paper. Introduction Poorly consolidated sandstone intervals are usually gravel packed to control sand movement into the wellbore when the well is on production. As it is known to negatively impact formation productivity at the wellbore damage should be minimized during both drilling and completion operations. This damage can usually be estimated from well test interpretation and is referred to as a skin value. However, in a multi-permeability layered reservoir, the amount of formation damage in each layer will be proportional to it's permeability. During well testing, this may result in significantly lowering the contribution of the highly damaged zone, and hence cause a misestimation of the effective permeability and skin. A basic description of transient flow models in homogenous, and layered reservoirs is presented in the next paragraphs. Description of transient flow regimes in different reservoir models has been presented by several authors. Only a small subset of PCa patients will have an aggressive disease that requires intensive therapy, and there is currently no biomarker to predict disease aggressiveness at the time of surgery. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are reported to be involved in PCa pathogenesis. METHODS This study involved 105 participants. For the discovery phase, prostatectomy samples were dichotomized to high-risk (n = 27, biochemical failure <36 months after prostatectomy) and low-risk groups (n = 14, ≥36 months without biochemical failure). Expression of 754 mature miRNAs was compared between the 2 groups. Linear regression models were built to accurately predict biochemical failure risk. miRNA mimics were transfected into PCa model cell lines to test effects on proliferation and to deduce responding signaling pathways. RESULTS We identified 25 differentially expressed miRNAs between the biochemical failure risk grou...

Total trihalomethanes in the drinking water averaged 2.95/.~g/i. Average concentrations (/zg/l) of individual compounds were: CnBr3, 2.17 + 0.3; CHBr2C1 , 0.48 + 0.14; CHBrCI2, 0.30 + 0.13.
