Research paper thumbnail of Acute Effects of Long Distance Running on Plantar Foot Pressure Distribution

Following the initial assessment of foot pressure distribution, the runners were asked to complete the regular training program. Immediately after the run, foot pressure distribution was again assessed using the Zebris FDM-Treadmill. The parameters were analysed and compared with the pre-training data. The same parameters were also assessed for the control group at rest. Paired t-test was used to compare the foot pressure distribution before and after the run. Independent t-test was used to compare the same parameters between runners and control group. No significant changes were observed in runners post run whereas the control group showed significant changes in the foot pressure distribution of right forefoot and backfoot when compared to long distance runners at rest. The findings of the study suggest that the foot pressure distribution is not affected acutely after the long distance running. The future studies could analyse the plantar pressure measurement throughout the training programs to detect the time and nature of the deviations linked to long distance run, which would help in injury prevention.

The subjects performed PUP and DBC exercises 3 times on a stable surface. Surface EMG activity of the SA, UT, MT, and LT was collected from the dominant arm and presented as a percentage of the maximal voluntary contraction. One-way repeated-measures ANOVA with a Friedman's test was performed to compare differences in EMG activity of SA, UT, MT, and LT during PUP and DBC exercises. The SA and UT activities were significantly greater during the DBC exercise. LT and MT muscle activities were significantly greater during the PUP exercise. The peak and average SA and UT activity were greatest during the DBC exercise on a static stable surface. This result indicates that DBC exercise on the static stable surface is more effective to activate the SA and UT.

As it disrupts the body’s natural alignment and causes increased impact when the foot strikes the ground. The purpose of the present study was to compare the effects of 4-week core stability training and foot intrinsic muscle training on foot posture in females. Twenty-six females with pronated feet were randomly divided into two groups. The group A performed the core stability training (n=13) and the group B performed the foot intrinsic muscle training (n=13) for four weeks with frequency of 5 sessions per week. Foot Posture Index, McGill protocol, weight distribution and foot load response were assessed at the baseline and at the end of four weeks. Dependent t-test was used to check the differences within the group before and after the program. Independent t-test was used to compare the differences between groups after the intervention.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of soft tissue manipulation of popliteus muscle on non-traumatic anterior knee pain in athletes; as the relationship between popliteus and Quadriceps muscle has not been studied/explored much. Materials and methods: In this experimental study, 15 subjects presenting with non-traumatic anterior knee pain were selected. Quadriceps muscle activity, torque production and knee pain were assessed. Followed by a single session of popliteus manipulation all the above parameters were re-assessed immediately and at 24 hours after intervention. Results: Significant reduction in pain (P < 0.005) at 24 hours was observed. There was a significant increase in muscle activity of Vastus Medialis (P < 0.05) and Vastus Lateralis (P < 0.005) immediately after the intervention but not after 24 hours. No sig...
