I would also like to thank my lecturers, colleagues and friends from University Utara Malaysia (UUM) KL campus who gave me tremendous support in completing the project paper. This appreciation also goes to my beloved wife and children who helped, motivated, supported and stood firm behind me to ensure that this task was completed. I would also like to thank the wonderful people involved either directly or indirectly in completing this project paper. Thanks for the patience and trust. Last but not least to both my parents who gave me their support and motivation to finish my study, I would like to say thank you. VI

Random amplified polymorphic DNA was used to study the genetic diversity and assay polymorphisms ... more Random amplified polymorphic DNA was used to study the genetic diversity and assay polymorphisms among eleven populations of Macrobrachium rosenbergii in Malaysia. The RAPD procedure generated 205 markers in the 11 populations. and a large level of polymorphisms was observed in all populations. The unweighted pair group method with arithmetic averaging (UPGMA) clustering procedure based on the markers identified three major clusters among all populations. The results of the present study showed that RAPD based fingerprinting were a useful tool to assess the genetic variability of freshwater prawn, M. rosenbergii. Assessing high genetic variability within and among M. rosenbergii is considered important genetic resources as it has direct benefit for conserving wild stocks, greater potential for improvement and serves as invaluable resource for different selection criteria, especially when planning breeding or crossbreeding programs.

Research paper thumbnail of Estimation of genomic diversity using sequence related amplified polymorphism (SRAP) markers in a mini core collection of wheat germplasm from Pakistan

Cereal Research Communications, 2020

This unpredictability has placed new emphasis on breeding resilient wheat varieties alongside higher yield and better nutritional quality. Use of few successful varieties as parents for breeding new varieties led to the loss of locally adaptive genetic diversity. Therefore, selection and use of diverse genotypes in a breeding program is required to create genetic variability. This study was initiated to study genomic diversity of 50 accessions of wheat at NIAB with an aim to breed new and resilient cultivars of wheat using sequence-related amplified polymorphism (SRAP). SRAP markers divided the germplasm into three main clusters comprising of 21 (Cluster 1), 19 (Cluster 2) and 10 genotypes (Cluster 3) with futher subgorups within them. More importantly, out of 10 cultivars developed in Pakistan, 6 fall in same cluster 1 (e.g., TAKBEER, LALMA, KT-335, INQALAB-91, NIA-SUNHARI and GALAXY-13), 1 line (NIA-AMBER in subgroup 2d) falls in cluster 2 and the rest of three lines (FAISALABAD-08 (sub-group 3a), PUNJAB-11 and BENAZIR-12 (both in subgroup 3b) fall in cluster 3. This study also identified a NIAB advanced line NW-1-20 distinctive from the other advanced lines indicating diverse parents in its pedigree. Thus, we found that SRAP markers were helpful in revealing the hidden population structure in a germplasm collection. To add to it, this study will help in selecting diverse parents for future wheat breeding at NIAB.

A search of the literature and conference presentations also contributed to the findings. Areas studied included the materials budget, collection development policies, and licenses; identifying, evaluating, selecting, and developing the electronic sources collection; training subject specialists to use electronic resource tools; classifying electronic materials; and the changes in the role of the collection development librarian.

Lack of knowledge and awareness of risk management or assessment procedures in the construction industry in Oman caused additional cost and time delay in most of the awarded construction projects. This paper aimed at developing a model for risk assessment in the Oman construction industry to save huge amounts of millions of money wasted due to this problem. A field survey of semi-structured questionnaire with face-to-face interviews was carried out in the Oman construction industry including public, contractors and consultants. The research approach relies on data collected from primary and secondary sources. Combination of quantitative and qualitative data analysis was used in analysing the data for the Model development.
