The paper examined the problems of information seeking behavior of library patrons in academic li... more The paper examined the problems of information seeking behavior of library patrons in academic libraries in Kaduna, Nigeria. Three research questions, three objectives and one hypothesis formed the basis of the study. The study was based on descriptive design and the population consisted of visitors from both studies. A multistage cluster random sampling method was used to determine the sample and the Yamane's formula to determine the sample size of 782 persons for both institutions. The tool used for the study was a structured questionnaire. Of the 782 copies of the questionnaires distributed, 700 were recovered and analyzed for the study. Pre-test was conducted and was further subjected to reliability coefficient (split-half). The data were subjected to frequency counts, percentages and PPMC was employed to test the hypothesis. The study found that the level of awareness of library resources in both universities has improved significantly by providing adequate information about the services provided to respondents, and that they were more familiar with books / e-books, electronic journal/journals, newspaper and media resources etc. It concluded that library patrons do not use services such as CAS, DBS, indexing services, FTP, etc. because of their limited knowledge. It recommended by encouraging the libraries of both institutions be equipped and updated with up-to-date resources and information to meet the needs of the libraries of the twenty-first era.
The paper examines the Information Needs of Library users in Kano State University of Science and... more The paper examines the Information Needs of Library users in Kano State University of Science and Technology, Wudil Nigeria. The research design adopted for this study is descriptive survey method. The study was guided by three research questions and objectives. Purposive convenience sampling technique was used to collect data from a target sample population of 43 library users'. Questionnaire and observation were used to collect from the participant. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistical method, which were presented in form of tables and charts using frequency and sample percentages. The findings revealed that, Majority of the respondents frequently visit the library to satisfy their information need purposely for reading, learning and teaching (41.8%). It also showed that, the major information sources accessible to the respondents are internet and books. The results further showed that, most of the respondents prefer to source for their information need through the internet (67.4%) and books (76.7%) and also revealed that only few of the library services were known to the users. It recommends on how best to improve on the library services and acquisition of current information resources to Library users in order to enhance their teaching, learning and research thus, helping them to meet the trend of 21 st century library.
The main argument behind this paper was to determine the awareness and utilization library resour... more The main argument behind this paper was to determine the awareness and utilization library resources by library users' of NIMS Central Library, Jaipur India. In this study, a descriptive survey method was used, using a questionnaire as a data collection tool. 60 library users were selected randomly from the NIMS University Central Library and managed by a questionnaire, of which 52 copies were completed and returned. The research questionnaires were analyzed by the frequency counts and simple percentages. The findings showed that participants surveyed disclose that female preferred the library more than their male counterparts less than 30 years of age. It was also noted that the majority of respondents indicated that 34 (65.3%) of library resources, indicated that gazetteers were not available. Users of the NIMS Central Library use more books / e-books, journal/ electronic journals, newspapers / magazines, and Internet /computer. It concluded that for the proficient and effective use of the library for teaching, learning and research, the academic institution must provide a live library of updated library resources to get together the information requirements of the library users'. It recommended that the management of the library or university should bring in the use of library literacy education to teach users how to properly manage the library. This will encourage more users who are not aware of the library resources. Finally, Board Display Services should be expanded sufficiently to reflect the available resources to users' and thus representing all library resources.

Survey method of the research and stratified random sampling was used for the study to select 550 postgraduate students for the study. However, 502 respondents responded to the questionnaires distributed. The data was presented and analyzed in tables and percentages. The research discovered that majority of the postgraduate students use internet services for their academic programs. It also reveals that utilization of internet has positive impact on postgraduate students and also has influenced the accessibility of online information usage of postgraduate students in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. This implies that most of the postgraduate students are internet users.

The paper examines cloud computing services in Nigerian academic setting with emphasis to libraries and the rationale behind adoption of cloud computing in the libraries of these strategic institutions in Nigeria. The paper would help University libraries in Nigeria to discover the challenges faced by libraries in the implementation of cloud based services and how best to create cloud computing services for libraries.

The study on skills and professional training requirements for Librarians of the MTN-Net Library ... more The study on skills and professional training requirements for Librarians of the MTN-Net Library of the Kashim Ibrahim Library of the Ahmadu Bello University (A.B.U.), Zaria is to enable the understanding of the skills and professional training needed for the librarians to meet the needs of patrons in the emergence of electronic resources. The study utilized survey research methods and data were collected with the aid of questionnaires. Staff of MTN-Net Library and the Kashim Ibrahim Library of Ahmadu Bello University (A.B.U.), Zaria were interviewed to confirm the response on the questionnaire. The result is analysed with the aid of descriptive statistics and presented in percentages and tabular forms. The research indicated insufficient knowledge and skills for the academics librarians as well as lack of web technology and automation trainings. Recommendations were made regarding library automation and web technology training to both the senior and junior staff and the librarians to enable them effectively and efficiently work in an electronic environment. The Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria was established in 1962, it comprises twelve faculties, postgraduate school and 81 academic departments, five institutes, six specialized centres and a Division of Agricultural College. The total student enrolment in the university's degree and sub-degree programs is about 35,000 drawn from every state of the federation, Africa and the rest of the world. There are about 1,400 academic and research staff and 5,000 support staff serving the university. The university library system
