To this purpose, computational method of selecting the number of vessels required in a fleet is presented. Factors envisaged to pose difficulties in the schedule preparation were identified as well as discussion on other shipping markets for in depth understanding of transportation system model. It is hoped that shipping companies and new entrants will find this work a great value for their shipping operations hence the inclusion of methods of determining vessel size and speed characteristics.

In fact, banking is a business, which is run on the confidence and trust. The confidence enjoyed by the banks enables them to mobilize the dormant funds of public and make them available for productive purpose. Commercial Banks play significant role in the economic development of a country by promoting mobilization of resources and allocating these resources in the form of loans and advances. The resources available with the financial institutions are to be carefully managed and distributed in order to maintain efficiency. Efficiency of funds management lies not only in the efficient mobilization of funds but also in the effective and optimum use of resources. The present study shows that Banking Sector Reforms have changed the face of Indian banking industry. The reforms have led to the increase in resource productivity, increasing level of deposits, credits and profitability. Banking institutions have a good share of the total resources to be kept as reserves and to improve their spread by efficiently managing the remaining resources. The problem becomes further complicated in the current environment of global economic reforms and the resultant cut-throat competition. Commercial banks are also not free from this global problem. The study then suggests that commercial banks should focus on mobilizing more deposits as this will improve their lending performance and should formulate realistic and comprehensive strategic and financial plans.

Several prudential payments, integrating and provisioning norms have been setup and these are shaping up the banks to improve efficiency and trimming down NPAs to improve the financial situation in the banking system. Non-performing assets are a major issue and challenge for banking industry in India. Non-performing Assets threaten the stability and impact bank's profitability through a loss of interest income, write-off the principal loan amount. RBI had issued guidelines in 1993 based on recommendations of the Narasimham Committee that mandated the identification and reduction of NPAs to be treated as a national priority because NPA are directly linked towards the credit risk that a bank faces and it impact its efficiency in allocating resources. Apart from this, NPAs affect profitability as well. Since higher NPAs require higher provisioning, which means a large part of the profits needs to be kept aside as provision against bad loans. Therefore, the problem of NPAs is not the concern of the lenders alone but is, indeed, a concern for policy makers as well involved in accelerating the economic growth. In recent years financial reforms led by RBI have helped to bring down the level of NPAs and have achieved little success in terms of recovery and up gradation of the existing NPAs. The present study highlights that the problems of NPAs are more serious in Public Sector Banks than Private Sector Banks. Reduction of NPAs in banking sector should be treated as a national priority to make the Indian banking system more strong and resilient.
