Some recent studies reported various health problems associated with excessive texting habits. With this background we would like to conduct a study among undergraduate students of various health care profession to determine the association between mobile texting and its health affects Material and methods: A cross sectional study will be conducted involving 377 students of pharmacy, medicine, dentistry to study the association .of texting and its health impacts. The sample will be simple stratified sample. SPSS will be used to analyse the data. A self developed expert validated, pretested and self rated questionnaire will be used in the study.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among all students in a medical faculty in Malaysia. The questionnaire included three parts; socio-demographic correlates, PSS-10 and the validated Malay version of Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale-21 item (DASS-21). Spearman's correlation coefficient was used in the analysis. Results: Stress subscale of DASS -21 correlated positively with the total score of PSS-10 (r= +0.50, p<0.001), positively with the negative subscale of PSS-10 (r= +0.36, p<0.001) and negatively with the positive subscale of PSS-10 (perceived coping) (r= -0.33, p<0.001). Conclusion: The Malay Version of PSS-10 has fair correlation with the stress subscale of DASS-21. This confirmed the concurrent validity of this scale, which further strengthened the previous evidence that the Malay version of PSS-10 was a valid tool...

This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of a Malay translated version of the Minnesota Nicotine Withdrawal Scale (MNWS). Methods The original scale was translated into Malay following the standard guidelines proposed for translation studies. The reliability and validity of the Malay version scale were evaluated on the basis of data collected from 133 participants. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was calculated to assess the reliability. To validate the psychometric properties of the scale, factor analysis and construct validity were used. This study was conducted at the Quit Smoking Clinic at Penang General Hospital, Penang, Malaysia. Results The translated scale has excellent reliability, with total Cronbach’s alpha of 0.91. The test-retest reliability for the scale presented an excellent reliability and stability of the translated scale with Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient (r = 0.876; P < 0.001). There was a significant positive correlation between the exhaled carbon monoxide level, Fagerstrom Test for Nicotine Dependence total score, and number of cigarettes smoked per day and the MNWS total score (r = 0.72, 0.68, and 0.68, respectively; P < 0.001). A principal-components analysis with orthogonal rotation yielded a unidimensional model that includes all the items of the MNWS. Conclusions The Malay version of the MNWS is a reliable and valid measure of withdrawal symptoms as well as the smoking urge, and it is applicable to clinical practice and research study.

Maintaining health, social participation, reducing institutionalization, and improving quality of life of the elderly are public health challenges of the 21(st) century. Quality of life among elderly in Elderly Homes in Malaysia is under researched. This study aims to determine the quality of life and its associated factors among the Elderly in Elderly Homes in Kuala Lumpur. This was a cross-sectional study among 203 residents aged 60 years or more in eight randomly selected Elderly Homes in Kuala Lumpur in September 2014. Stratified simple random sampling was used to select participants. Study instruments included World Health Organization Quality of Life Questionnaire-Brief Version (WHOQOL-BREF), Multidimensional Scale for Perceived Social Support, and a questionnaire for Socio-demographic variables. A cross-sectional study was carried out recruiting all pharmacy students in two pharmacy faculties in Malaysia, using an online self-administered questionnaire in English. The questionnaire included questions on socio-demographic factors, sources of stress and the validated Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10). The mean (±SD) age was 20.7 (± 1.2) years and the age ranged 19 - 29 years. The majority of respondents were female (79.6 %) and Malays (53.9 %). There was a significant association between PSS-10 and ''study in general'' and ''assignments'' (p<0.01), among students in the public university. In the private university, stress was significantly associated with ''living cost (p=0.045), ''living away from family'' (p=0.043) and ''lack of recreational time'' (p=0.016...
