Considering so many benefits of antioxidants, this study was designed to find out which fruit provide us with the highest levels of antioxidants. Since now-a-days majority of people prefer drinking commercially available fruit juices, this research will also focus on the comparison of the freshly extracted fruit juices with the commercially available fruit juices. The total amount of the antioxidants in different fruit juices were determined using two methods Ferric ion reducing antioxidant power assay and Phosphomolybdeum method. The results obtained showed that the antioxidants levels of freshly extracted fruit juices were higher when compared to commercially available juices. Also freshly extracted pomegranate juice exhibited the highest an...

Type 2 diabetes has several causesgenetics and lifestyle are the most important ones. A combination of these factors can cause insulin resistance, when your body doesn't use insulin as well as it should. Insulin resistance is the most common cause of type 2 diabetes. Alcohol abuse is said to influence several changes in the cytokine levels. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the role of cytokines, which seems to be the probable cause of insulin resistance leading to type 2 diabetes. 400 subjects were included in the study divided into Control (Group I) 100 non-alcoholic control, 100 alcoholic healthy controls. Diabetic subjects as Group II100 newly diagnosed nonalcoholic diabetic patients and 100 newly diagnosed alcoholic diabetic patients respectively, both from the age group of 35-55 years. The result specified that there is a strong relation between increased cytokines levels due t...

In India its difficult to get a home where tea or coffee is not consumed. They are offered as part of welcoming guests, besides using them in daily diet. Health effects of tea and coffee are always argued. Beneficial effects of tea and coffee are associated with their antioxidant properties. Temperature, time and variation in preparation can change the flavor of coffee and tea by affecting the rate of oxidation, which is the rate at which the oils, acids break down. Depending on how quickly this process happens, the aroma, flavor and texture of each cup can greatly differ. This also affects antioxidant properties as well. The present study focuses on various tea and coffee types and their antioxidant properties by two different methods viz Ferric reducing power assay and Phosphomolybdic method. Both the met...

As this is strictly related to oral health, it will ultimately be useful to study oral secretion with some of its biochemical parameters, which are usually studied in serum. The usefulness of this parameters to gauge oral health especially with reference to periodontitis was determined in present study. The study was conducted in Mumbai based dental college. The aim of the study was to evaluate the changes in the levels of total proteins and salivary amylase with increase in dental carries and to compare the same with healthy subjects. Students ‘t’ test was applied. The study comprised of total 90 subjects, out of which 30 had gingivitis, 30 had periodontitis and 30 normal healthy individuals respectively. Both were age and sex matched. The result showed response of salivary glands to periodontal disease by enhancing synthesis of some protein, thereby increasing the protective potential of saliva.
