The first section reviews concerned literature relevant to the use of ECT in organizations. The second section describes a framework depicting the drivers of ECT use in organizations. The framework represents a macro level perspective of the phenomenon. The subsequent section highlights the implications of such a framework and the potential for further research.

In this paper we look at the sharing behavior related to a specific type of knowledge: knowledge created through learning from one's mistake. Learning through mistakes can be potentially a very good way of learning and thus can generate great deal of public good. However, employees may not feel like sharing their mistakes with others as it may generate negative personal gains for them. This study therefore looked at the conditions when employees may feel like sharing their mistakes. The study found that group culture, developmental culture, rational culture, organizational trust and individual's general compliance behavior support employees mistake sharing. Hierarchical culture is negatively related and individual's helping behavior is not related to mistake sharing.

However, not every organization did experience an equally deep penetration of the Internet in its business. It was followed by the dot-com bubble burst. Many researchers have studied the phenomenon of organizational adoption of the Internet and the associated success factors. However, the available literature is fragmented in nature and does not take into consideration certain fundamental concepts. Therefore, there is a need for an enhanced understanding of the phenomenon. It will enable executives to plan for and implement Internet adoption in a more effective manner. This paper discusses the literature and brings out the inadequacies in the current findings. Subsequently a framework is developed to indicate directions for future research.

In spite of similarities in the scale of operations and the general cultural contexts, the IT adoption processes and outcomes of the two organizations were significantly different. While one failed to implement IT in its crucial processes, the other responded effectively to changes in external conditions by developing and using IT applications for critical functions. The case illustrates how differences in organizational factors such as top management commitment, unions, middle management participation, capabilities of IS professionals and specific aspects of organization culture resulted in such differences. The case is interesting and significant because it is representative of experiences of many government-aided organizations in India, which have undertaken IT modernization as a response to external changes and government mandates. The findings can also be generalized across similar organizations in other developing countries.

Hence, it becomes important to understand the different factors behind the use of a website by its intended users. Such an understanding would enable an organization to recognize the drivers of the use of its website and to strive to reduce the gap between the planned and the actual use of the same. While the individual causal factors influencing the actual website usage are quite well understood, the concerned literature is in a highly fragmented state and thus cannot yield concrete guidelines to manage the phenomenon better. In this paper, the existing literature on the use of business websites has been critically examined. We also present a comprehensive interdisciplinary framework for analyzing the phenomenon of use of a business website. Finally we illustrate, in the light of the framework, the scope for future research in this field.

Anecdotal evidence suggests that this has resulted in the adoption of EC by companies in these countries. It is important to understand these strategic and environmental imperatives for EC adoption. Such understanding is required for anticipating necessary changes in EC adoption with impending and emerging changes in the environment. It is also needed for formulating business strategies in alignment with the organization’s IS strategies and IT capabilities, and in order to address managerial challenges in EC adoption. This paper is based on research-in-progress that explores the manner in which conditions related to the environmental and competitive contexts of the organization, lead to the adoption of EC in companies in developing societies. We studied the EC adoption of eighteen companies from eleven industries in India. Preliminary results, ba...

However, it is observed that the contingency aspects of management of these projects have not been given sufficient attention. The classification of e-Government projects based on specific project attributes is an area where the current understanding is rather inadequate. The relationship between certain e-Government project attributes and different management strategies has also not been explored adequately. In this paper, we examine the impact of two important project attributes on certain important aspects of project management. This paper employs cases of e-Government projects to demonstrate the framework so developed. A classification of such projects based on the mandatory/optional nature of concerned service and the mandatory/optional nature of intermediaries- two important project attributes- has been proposed. We have also demonstrated how this classification can act as a handl...

The use of enterprise workflow applications like ERP, CRM or customized workflow applications provides ample opportunities for computer-mediated control and monitoring. The employees are subjected to constant surveillance that often starts negatively affecting their health and mental wellbeing. The knowledge of constantly being watched puts tremendous pressure on people. This Technostress experienced by employees is caused due to lack of social interactions with peers and supervisors, change in their job description and information overload. They often face role conflict and are constrained by the system. The system drives the business instead of the other way around. The managers have increased workload as now they spend time and energy in micromanaging their teams. E-Government projects are no exception to the challenges of scaling. The problem is more severe because of a large and diverse population of target users and more crucial because of the vulnerability of the target population in case of failure of such initiatives (in projects, such as public distribution system of food). In spite of a significant awareness of its importance among implementers, scaling still remains a challenge. This paper aims to examine this important issue. Design/methodology/approach The case study method has been used to demonstrate the relationship between integration and scaling of e-Government projects. This study uses analytic generalization from field case as a method to theorize a broad framework for the integration of information and communications technology projects. The context of this study is an e-Government project in West Bengal, India. The selection of the c...
