These lineages are now separated by environmental barriers such as the arid regions of the Sahara and Kalahari Deserts or the tropical lowlands of Central Africa. Alternative explanations for the Rand Flora pattern range from vicariance and climate-driven extinction of a widespread pan-African flora to independent dispersal events and speciation in situ. To provide a temporal framework for this pattern, we used published data from nuclear and chloroplast DNA to estimate the age of disjunction of 17 lineages that span 12 families and nine orders of angiosperms. We further used these estimates to infer diversification rates for Rand Flora disjunct clades in relation to their higher-level encompassing lineages. Our results indicate that most disjunctions fall within the Miocene and Pliocene periods, coinciding with the onset of a major aridification trend, still ongoing, in Africa. Age of disjunctions seemed to be related to the climatic affinities of each Rand Flora lineage, with sub-humid taxa dated earlier (e.g., Sideroxylon) and those with more xeric affinities (e.g., Campylanthus) diverging later. We did not find support for significant decreases in diversification rates in most groups, with the exception of older subtropical lineages (e.g., Sideroxylon, Hypericum, or Canarina), but some lineages (e.g., Cicer, Campylanthus) showed a long temporal gap between stem and crown ages, suggestive of extinction. In all, the Rand Flora pattern seems to fit the definition of biogeographic pseudocongruence, with the pattern arising at different times in response to the increasing aridity of the African continent, with interspersed periods of humidity allowing range expansions.

Pelvic computed tomography (CT) revealed a well-encapsulated and lobulated presacral mass, with mixed fat and soft-tissue attenuation. Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging provided further confirmation of macroscopic intralesional fat and excluded either adjacent bone invasion or bladder cancer recurrence. A presacral myelolipoma was suspected based on imaging findings, with liposarcoma and teratoma having also been considered for the differential diagnosis. The histological confirmation of the tumor was only attained postoperatively. This case report alerts to the possible presacral location of myelolipomas, which should be considered for every fat-containing lesion detected in this region. The main clinical, imaging, and differential diagnoses of this entity are reviewed in this paper.

J. Bot. 16: 277-281. Copenhagen. ISSN 0107-055X. Two new species of the genus Dicoma, D. popeana from Somalia and D. aethiopica from Ethiopia, both of the section Psilocoma, are described and illustrated. The two species are distinguished from D. anomala and other similar taxa by a morphologic diagnostic key.

A new species of Anisopappus (Asteraceae, Inuleae) and its phylogenetic relationships within the genus. -Nord. J. Bot. 21: 55-62. Copenhagen. ISSN 0107-055X. A new species of the genus Anisopappus (Asteraceae, Inuleae) from Angola, A . fruticosus, is described. The principal differences with respect to A . chinensis are discussed, and phylogenetic relationships with the other species of the genus are investigated by means of a cladistic analysis using morphological characters.

Four patients with posterior uveitis secondary to Behçet's disease were treated with infliximab until complete remission and were followed after withdrawal of infusions. Intra-ocular inflammation was assessed using the binocular indirect ophthalmoscopy score, best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and foveal thickness measured by optic coherence tomography (OCT). All the patients included in the study were treated with infliximab for a minimum of 12 months and were in complete remission. None of the patients were taking steroids or immunosuppressants. Main follow-up after withdrawal of infusions was 7.5 months. Two out of four patients (50%) maintained complete remission of posterior uveitis. BCVA was stable in seven eyes. OCT showed worsening in macular edema in the two eyes of the patients with reactivation. Infliximab is an efficient long-term treatment for refractory posterior uveitis. Repeated infusions are required to maintain long-term remission which may be sustained on discontinuation of the drug.

A 23-year-old woman with POHS presented with sudden dimness of vision and metamorphopsia in the right eye. The patient was examined with ophthalmoscopy, fluorescein angiography, and optical coherence tomography (OCT). Fundus examination, fluorescein angiography, and OCT of the right eye revealed a juxtafoveal choroidal neovascularization. Intravitreal injection of bevacizumab was performed with a postoperative improvement of visual acuity and resolution of the distortion. This case report describes a case of juxtafoveal choroidal neovascularization associated with POHS that responded remarkably well to intravitreal injection of bevacizumab.

Morphometric characters permitting discrimination from the most similar taxa are detailed, and possible phylogenetic relationships with other species of the section LpidosetiS (particularly those of the C. vesicaria complex) are discussed.
