Many states allow "forced pooling," which forces landowners to lease their lands to an operator, even if the owner disagrees, when a threshold is reached. Extension professionals need to provide relevant information to decision makers and other local stakeholders on the effects of forced pooling. This article examines how forced pooling laws can affect local voice. Findings suggest that the holders of decision-making power at the local level differ according to the forced pooling thresholds used.

This scale was used to measure social support sources and types among a sample of 421 youth from 4 Pennsylvania schools. The youth were surveyed to determine their levels of social support and the relationship of social support to community and youth development capacities. Research findings indicated an acceptable model fit indices for the sources of the social support model. A lower fit for the types of social support was found. Overall, the analysis further verified the reliability and validity of the social provisions scale. With this information, youth practitioners can better measure and assess social support and use the social provisions scale to tailor youth development programs to individual and group needs.

A descriptive correlational study was conducted to reach this goal, and a mixed method approach was used. Four Pennsylvania public high schools with agriculture programs were selected to participate in this study. Data from 421 students were collected (86% response rate) to determine the factors contributing to leadership development. This was coupled with 19 key informant interviews with teachers and students. The findings of this research indicate that social support was the most important predictor of leadership skills. This was followed by civic engagement and social interaction variables. Participation in leadership programs was also related to leadership skills. Additionally, gender differences existed in leadership skills, with females showing higher levels.

A sample of taxpayers who had tax returns completed at a university-based volunteer income tax assistance (VITA) program was surveyed. More than 70% of respondents perceived their health insurance plan knowledge and overall financial literacy to be fair/good on a scale where the top choices were very good, excellent, and exceptional. The results of the binary logistic regression showed that those who were more likely to have high health insurance knowledge were U.S. citizens, not single, and reviewed their health insurance coverage at least once a year.

Under the line of new suburban history, Paul Sandul offers an innovative approach with the concept of the "agriburbs," which refers to the new agricultural settlements in California that represented a particular type of rural suburb (214). What is an agriburb? The concept expresses the combination of idealized rural and urban lifestyles in the development of a family residence-the quiet and "sylvan environment" of the rural landscape mixed with the "amenities" of the city (25). As with any suburb, the creation of agriburbs is grounded in the agrarian ideals that stemmed from the countermovement to industrialization and urbanization that occurred at the end of the nineteenth century. What makes an agriburb different from another type of suburb is that agriburbs incorporate a farm into the equation. In the form of horticulture, the agriburb made the possibility of engaging in agricultural production a key component of family and communal living. Sandul describes the making of agriburbs as part of an urban development plan that exploited an ideal of the rural as a means of forwarding economic enterprise. In this regard, California Dreaming: Boosterism, Memory, and Rural Suburbs in the Golden State pays special attention to the role of "boosters" in the creation and selling of the utopian rural suburb. Any reader interested in analyzing the impact of the modernization process and the expansion of the city in the recreation of rural life and agricultural output will be well served by Sandul's work. Sandul organizes his book into three parts, each comprising a harmonious blend of subsections and chapters. The subsections provide readers with broader theoretical and contextual understandings of the seven chapters that make up this volume. In part 1, "California Dreaming," the author begins by outlining the early nineteenth-century

Youth leadership is vital to develop, maintain, and sustain communities. Thus, it is critical to provide youth with leadership experiences that allow them to act collectively for the betterment of their communities. Alternatively, while a wide array of programs claim contributions towards community development, they focus on providing youth with individual leadership skills, and do not provide them with opportunities for practice. This study is designed to understand the factors contributing to the development of youth leaders. A descriptive correlational study was conducted to reach this goal, and a mixed method approach was used. Four public high schools with agriculture program were selected from southeastern Pennsylvania to participate in this study. A total of 421 questionnaires were completed leading to a response rate of 86%. This was coupled with ninetneen interviews with teachers and students. The findings of this research indicate that social support was the most important predictor of leadership skills. This was followed by civic engagement and social interaction variables. Participation in leadership programs was also related to leadership skills. Additionaly, gender differences existed in leadeship skills, with females showing higher levels. Much of the leadership skills are formed through support, engagement and interaction. This occurred at schools and in communities. Implications of these findings were presented and served to integrate the processes of youth leadership development and community development. iv
