These compounds were emodin (1), physcion (2), α-spinasterol (3), hexadecanoic acid (4), sinocrassuloside VI (5), sinocrassuloside VII (6), sinocrassuloside VIII (7) and sinocrassuloside IX (8). Among them, compounds 1, 2, 3 and 4 were isolated from the roots of Silene viscidula Franch for the first time and compounds 1, 2 and 4 were first reported from the genus of silene. The chemical compositions show that Silene viscidula had distantly related with its confused specie of Psammosilene tunicoides.

From CMC values micellisationconstant (),Setchenov constant, () and interaction parameters ‘P’ and ‘q’ were calculated. values are positive for propan-2- ol+water system and negative for fructose +water system.value in propan-2-ol system are more as compared to fructose system. It suggests that nature of polar group of additive plays major role in solubilisation process. The high ‘P’ and ‘q’ values in presence of propan-2-ol suggest that propan-2-ol penetrates in the interior of micelle.

Research paper thumbnail of Apparent molar volume studies of SDS and DTAB in aqueous and mixed solvents

Archives of Applied Science Research, 2014

In the present study densities of SDS + water, SDS + water + propanol and SDS + water + fructose,... more In the present study densities of SDS + water, SDS + water + propanol and SDS + water + fructose, DTAB+ water, DTAB+ water + propanol and DTAB +water +fructose have been measured at different concentrations and temperatures. From density measurements, apparent molar volumes have been calculated for the studied systems to study the effect of added co-solute/ co-solvent on the structure of the studied systems. The observed apparent molar volumes in SDS/ DTAB + water + propanol ) systems are found to be less than in SDS/ DTAB + water system. This is due to entrapping of SDS/ DTAB molecules within the cavities of water-propanol complex1.The decrease in apparent molar volumes of SDS/DTAB in water-propanol system are more significant due to deeper penetration of propanol in interior of miclle in comparison to fructose. The apparent molar volume of SDS / DTAB + water + fructose system do not change appreciably with increasing concentration of surfactant, because of poor micelleadditive int...

The Column was eluted with solvents of different polarities, starting from less polar solvent. It yielded three compounds. On the basis of analytical data, spectral data (UV, IR, 1H NMR) and comparison with authentic samples, these compounds were characterized as stearic acid, alanonal- an anthraquinone and I²-sitosterol I²-Dglucoside.

Research paper thumbnail of Interaction parameters and micellisation constant of SDS and DTAB in aqueous and mixed solvents

CMC values of ionic surfactants SDS and DTAB, were determined conductometrically in water, water ... more CMC values of ionic surfactants SDS and DTAB, were determined conductometrically in water, water + propanol and water + fructose systems at different concentrations of propanol and fructose at 298.15, 308.15 and 318.15 K. From CMC values micellisation constant (KM), Setchenov constant (KS N) and interaction parameters ‘P’ and ‘q’ were calculated. KM values are positive for 2-propanol + water system and negative for fructose + water system. KS N values in 2-propanol system are more as compared to fructose system. It suggests that nature of polar group of additive plays major role in solubilisation process. The high ‘P’ and ‘q’ values in presence of 2-propanol suggests that 2-propanol penetrates in the interior of micelle, while larger ‘P’ and ‘q’ values for DTAB in presence of fructose are indicative of adsorption of fructose on the micellar surface.

The measurements are carried out at 298 .15, 308.15 and 318.15 K. From ' conductivity data the values of critical micelle concentration and counterion association constant (a) are determined. The observed thermodynamic data reveals that micellisation process is favoured both energetically as ~ell as by entropy gain. 'H i'fMR data of solutions indicate that whereas 2-propanol is solubilised in the interior 'of SOS mi celles, the penetration of 2-propanol into DT AB micelles is comparatively weak.
