The disease is endemic in Turkey is still far leads to substantial economic losses. In this study, TAS and TOS levels will be determined in cyst hydatite sheep and the changes of these biochemical parameters in cystic echinococcosis were investigated. The material of the study was composed of 2-3 aged Morkaraman sheep which were slaughtered and slaughter house in the Özalp district of Van province. The general health status of the sheep before slaughtering was checked by physical examination and blood samples were taken. After slaughtered, cyst hydatid examination was performed in different organs of the animals. The experimental group (cystic group) of the 25 sheep study with a positive (fertile cyst) of protoscolex, and 15 sheep with no pathological lesion on organ examinations and healthy physical examination were the control group. Serum samples were taken from healthy and blood samples taken from animals infected with hydatid cyst. TAS and TOS levels in serum samples were determined by spectroscopic methods using commercial kits. In control group sheep had TAS 1.67 ± 0.04 mmol trolox Equiv./L and in sheep infected with cystic echinococcosis was 1.44 ± 0.05 mmol trolox Equiv./L (p<0.01), TOS levels were 4.46± 0.58 μmol H2O2 equiv./L in the control group and 6.94 ±0.59 μmol H2O2 equiv./L in the cystic echinococcosis group (p <0.001). OSI values were 0.27 ± 0.08 Arbitrary Unit in the control group and 0.48 ± 0.05 Arbitrary Unit in sheep infected with cystic echinococcosis. As a result of the migration of phagocytic cells to the cystic region, lipid peroxidation occurs due to the use of more oxygen. As a result, TAS levels decreased and TOS levels increased in sheep with hydatid cysts.

Bu çalışmada Türkiye'nin Güneydoğusunda bulunan Mardin ili genelinde bulunan içme sularında Manga... more Bu çalışmada Türkiye'nin Güneydoğusunda bulunan Mardin ili genelinde bulunan içme sularında Mangan (Mn), Kobalt (Co), Bakır (Cu) ve Çinko (Zn) analizi yapılarak Türk Standartları Enstitüsü (TSE)'nün insani amaçlı içme ve kullanma suyu standartlarına uygun olup olmadığının tespiti amacıyla 2012 yılında yapılmıştır. Araştırma için Mardin il genelinde bulunan içme suyu kaynaklarından olmak üzere daha önceden %1'lik HNO3 çözeltisiyle yıkanmış, kilitli kapaklı, 1,5L hacminde pet şişelerde toplam 15 numune alınmış, alınan numunelere 15'er ml %65'lik HNO3 çözeltisi ilave edilerek analiz gününe kadar-18 o C de muhafaza edilmiştir. Su numunelerinin analizleri AAS cihazı ile yapılmıştır. Mn için yapılan analizler sonucunda elde edilen değerlerin TS.266 standartlarına göre yüksek olduğu, Co için bakıldığında 3 nokta hariç standartların üzerinde olduğu, Zn ve Cu konsantrasyonlarının standartların altında olduğu görülmüştür. Mn ve Co konsantrasyonlarının yüksek çıktığı bölgelerde gerekli önlemlerin alınarak ölçümlerin düzenli olarak yapılması halk sağlığı açısından büyük önem taşımaktadır.

In this study, drinking water throughout the province of Bingol in eastern Turkey has been establ... more In this study, drinking water throughout the province of Bingol in eastern Turkey has been established in 2013 for the determination of copper (Cu), manganese (Mn), cobalt (Co) and iron (Fe) concentrations of the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) as humanitarian drinking water standards. For the study, a total of 13 samples were taken from the drinking water sources located in Bingöl province, previously washed with 1% HNO3 solution, using 1.5L volume pet bottles with locked lid. Water samples were analyzed with the AAS device. According to the results of the analysis; Cu and Fe concentrations were found to be high and Mn and Co concentrations were high. In the regions where Mn and Fe concentrations are high, taking the necessary precautions regularly is important for public health.

The sheep exposed to fluoride showed significant differences in urinary fluoride and the blood levels of beta-carotene and vitamins A and C (p<0.001) as proof of the impact that fluorosis have in the overall health of the animals.

DFT calculations are utilized to compare and contrast the substituted aluminum—heterofullerenes, ... more DFT calculations are utilized to compare and contrast the substituted aluminum—heterofullerenes, C20-nAln (with n = 1–5) from thermodynamically view point, at density functional theory (DFT). Vibrational frequency analysis confirms that apart from C15Al5, all studied species are true minima. Considering the optimized geometries shows that all heterofullerenes are isolated-pentagon cage and none collapse to open deformed as segregated structure. The highest binding energy (5.56 eV/atom) and absolute heat of atomization (3323.68 kcal mol−1) reveals open-shell C19Al1 as the most stable thermodynamic heterofullerene. The most NICS (0) (isotropic and anisotropic parameters, −49.58 and − 46.47 ppm, respectively) introduces closed-shell C18Al2-2 as the most aromatic structure. Also, closed-shell C16Al4-1 heterofullerene emerges with the most polarizability (307.71 a.u.) and hence activity to interact with the surrounding polar species. The lowest and the highest charge transfer on the surfaces of C20 and C16Al4-2 without weak Al—Al bond, as the worst and the best candidate, respectively, provokes further investigation on impossible and possible application for hydrogen storage, respectively. We wish that the present survey will stimulate new experiments.

Al... more P aracetamol is one of the most widely used drugs in the world as analgesics and antipyretics. Although it has been classified as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for many years, it has been classified as "other" analgesic and antipyretic drugs in recent years due to lack of anti-inflammatory properties. Although it acts by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase (COX) enzyme and prostaglandin synthesis, such as NSAIDs, several studies have shown that the potential for inhibition of COX enzymes in peripheral tissues is quite low [1]. Therefore, ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE: Paracetamol is thought that it acts by inhibiting the central cyclooxygenase (COX) enzyme; its mechanism of action is still not fully explained. Although its most important side effect is hepatoxicity, it is thought to cause toxicity on the brain in recent years. The present study aims to investigate the treatment and toxic effects of low and high doses of paracetamol on the liver and brain. METHODS: Wistar-albino rats were used in this study. At doses of 20-500 mg/kg, paracetamol was administered intraperitoneally once a day for one and three days. The brain and liver were used for immunohistochemical evaluation using COX-3, prostaglandin E 2 (PGE 2) and caspase 3 antibodies and for total antioxidant (TAS), total oxidant (TOS) and oxidative stress index (OSI) measurements. Results were evaluated using the Kruskal Wallis test (SPSS ver.24). RESULTS: The liver COX-3 levels were significantly lower in both groups with higher doses (p<0.05). In the brain, there was no statistically significant difference in COX-3 levels between the groups. There was no statistically significant difference in PGE 2 levels in the liver and brain between the groups (p>0.05). The caspase 3 level in the liver was statistically significantly higher in the low dose group compared to the other groups (p<0.05). In both liver and brain, OSI values were significantly higher in the 3-day high-dose group compared to others (p<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between the groups in ALT and AST values (p>0.05). CONCLUSION: The results of our study show that paracetamol inhibits the COX-3 enzyme in the liver but has no effect in the brain, and COX-3 does not have an effect on PGE 2. Paracetamol causes apoptosis in the liver only in low doses; higher doses may cause toxicity by increasing oxidative stress, especially in the brain.

Cu levels were increased in the group treated with DXR + vitamin E in comparison with DXR (p<0.05) and CoQ 10 groups (p = 0.001). Furthermore, copper levels were increased in the group treated with DXR + CoQ 10 in comparison with CoQ 10 group (p < 0.05). Zn levels were decreased in the group treated with DXR + vitamin E in comparison with CoQ 10 group (p < 0.05). Mg levels were decreased in subjects treated with DXR + vitamin E in comparison with the control group values (p < 0.05). Particularly, the observed increase in Cu levels in rats from DXR + vitamin E group might be due to the decrease of vitamin E. We studied the potential application of a zigzag and an armchair AlN nanotube (AlNNT) as an anode... more We studied the potential application of a zigzag and an armchair AlN nanotube (AlNNT) as an anode material for the Mg-ion batteries (MIBs) using B3LYP-gCP-D3/6-31G* model chemistry. The Mg 2+ adsorption energy on the zigzag or armchair AlNNTs is − 217.2 or − 234.9 kcal/mol, but the Mg atom interaction is much weaker and the adsorption energy is − 10.5 or − 5.3 kcal/mol. The dispersion term is much more important for the Mg interaction compared to the Mg 2+. This term includes 68.6% of the Mg atom adsorption energy on the zigzag tube while its contribution for Mg cation adsorption is about 3.8%. The maximum energy barrier for an Mg 2+ migration and cell voltage are 6.1 kcal/mol and 4.47 V for zigzag and 5.3 kcal/mol and 4.95 V for armchair AlNNT, respectively. Thus, the AlNNTs provide a great ion mobility leading to a faster charge/discharge rate because of small energy barriers. The larger cell voltage, and higher ion mobility suggest the armchair AlNNTs as a plausible anode material for application in the anode of MIBs, compared to the zigzag AlNNT. The effect of Mg/Mg 2+ adsorption on the electronic properties of AlNNTs is also discussed.

The aim of this study was to evaluate serum lipoprotein and tissue antioxidant levels of sheep wi... more The aim of this study was to evaluate serum lipoprotein and tissue antioxidant levels of sheep with and without fluorosis living in a volcanic area of Turkey. Fifteen Akkaraman sheep with fluorosis in the Ağri region north of Lake Van and 10 Akkaraman sheep without fluorosis in the Van region just south of Lake Van in the eastern part of Turkey were investigated. In the kidney tissues, the MDA levels and SOD activities in the fluorosed sheep showed nonsignificant increases, but the GSH level and GPx activities significantly decreased. In the liver tissues of the fluorosed sheep, a significant increase in the MDA level and GPx activity was observed, but the GSH level showed no change, and the SOD activity exhibited a small decrease. By contrast, in the muscle tissues, the MDA level decreased and the SOD activity increased significantly, whereas the GPx activity increased but not significantly, and the GSH levels decreased. Finally, the serum lipoprotein levels of the fluorosed and nonfluorosed sheep were not significantly different. In conclusion, different degrees in the pro-oxidant/antioxidant status of soft tissues such as kidney, liver, and muscle were affected by F intoxication, but no differences were found in the serum lipoprotein levels.

Bu çalışmada Türkiye'nin Güneydoğusunda bulunan Mardin ili genelinde bulunan içme sularında Manga... more Bu çalışmada Türkiye'nin Güneydoğusunda bulunan Mardin ili genelinde bulunan içme sularında Mangan (Mn), Kobalt (Co), Bakır (Cu) ve Çinko (Zn) analizi yapılarak Türk Standartları Enstitüsü (TSE)'nün insani amaçlı içme ve kullanma suyu standartlarına uygun olup olmadığının tespiti amacıyla 2012 yılında yapılmıştır. Araştırma için Mardin il genelinde bulunan içme suyu kaynaklarından olmak üzere daha önceden %1'lik HNO3 çözeltisiyle yıkanmış, kilitli kapaklı, 1,5L hacminde pet şişelerde toplam 15 numune alınmış, alınan numunelere 15'er ml %65'lik HNO3 çözeltisi ilave edilerek analiz gününe kadar-18 o C de muhafaza edilmiştir. Su numunelerinin analizleri AAS cihazı ile yapılmıştır. Mn için yapılan analizler sonucunda elde edilen değerlerin TS.266 standartlarına göre yüksek olduğu, Co için bakıldığında 3 nokta hariç standartların üzerinde olduğu, Zn ve Cu konsantrasyonlarının standartların altında olduğu görülmüştür. Mn ve Co konsantrasyonlarının yüksek çıktığı bölgelerde gerekli önlemlerin alınarak ölçümlerin düzenli olarak yapılması halk sağlığı açısından büyük önem taşımaktadır.

In this study, drinking water throughout the province of Bingol in eastern Turkey has been establ... more In this study, drinking water throughout the province of Bingol in eastern Turkey has been established in 2013 for the determination of copper (Cu), manganese (Mn), cobalt (Co) and iron (Fe) concentrations of the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) as humanitarian drinking water standards. For the study, a total of 13 samples were taken from the drinking water sources located in Bingöl province, previously washed with 1% HNO3 solution, using 1.5L volume pet bottles with locked lid. Water samples were analyzed with the AAS device. According to the results of the analysis; Cu and Fe concentrations were found to be high and Mn and Co concentrations were high. In the regions where Mn and Fe concentrations are high, taking the necessary precautions regularly is important for public health.

The sheep exposed to fluoride showed significant differences in urinary fluoride and the blood levels of beta-carotene and vitamins A and C (p<0.001) as proof of the impact that fluorosis have in the overall health of the animals.

DFT calculations are utilized to compare and contrast the substituted aluminum—heterofullerenes, ... more DFT calculations are utilized to compare and contrast the substituted aluminum—heterofullerenes, C20-nAln (with n = 1–5) from thermodynamically view point, at density functional theory (DFT). Vibrational frequency analysis confirms that apart from C15Al5, all studied species are true minima. Considering the optimized geometries shows that all heterofullerenes are isolated-pentagon cage and none collapse to open deformed as segregated structure. The highest binding energy (5.56 eV/atom) and absolute heat of atomization (3323.68 kcal mol−1) reveals open-shell C19Al1 as the most stable thermodynamic heterofullerene. The most NICS (0) (isotropic and anisotropic parameters, −49.58 and − 46.47 ppm, respectively) introduces closed-shell C18Al2-2 as the most aromatic structure. Also, closed-shell C16Al4-1 heterofullerene emerges with the most polarizability (307.71 a.u.) and hence activity to interact with the surrounding polar species. The lowest and the highest charge transfer on the surfaces of C20 and C16Al4-2 without weak Al—Al bond, as the worst and the best candidate, respectively, provokes further investigation on impossible and possible application for hydrogen storage, respectively. We wish that the present survey will stimulate new experiments.

Al... more P aracetamol is one of the most widely used drugs in the world as analgesics and antipyretics. Although it has been classified as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for many years, it has been classified as "other" analgesic and antipyretic drugs in recent years due to lack of anti-inflammatory properties. Although it acts by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase (COX) enzyme and prostaglandin synthesis, such as NSAIDs, several studies have shown that the potential for inhibition of COX enzymes in peripheral tissues is quite low [1]. Therefore, ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE: Paracetamol is thought that it acts by inhibiting the central cyclooxygenase (COX) enzyme; its mechanism of action is still not fully explained. Although its most important side effect is hepatoxicity, it is thought to cause toxicity on the brain in recent years. The present study aims to investigate the treatment and toxic effects of low and high doses of paracetamol on the liver and brain. METHODS: Wistar-albino rats were used in this study. At doses of 20-500 mg/kg, paracetamol was administered intraperitoneally once a day for one and three days. The brain and liver were used for immunohistochemical evaluation using COX-3, prostaglandin E 2 (PGE 2) and caspase 3 antibodies and for total antioxidant (TAS), total oxidant (TOS) and oxidative stress index (OSI) measurements. Results were evaluated using the Kruskal Wallis test (SPSS ver.24). RESULTS: The liver COX-3 levels were significantly lower in both groups with higher doses (p<0.05). In the brain, there was no statistically significant difference in COX-3 levels between the groups. There was no statistically significant difference in PGE 2 levels in the liver and brain between the groups (p>0.05). The caspase 3 level in the liver was statistically significantly higher in the low dose group compared to the other groups (p<0.05). In both liver and brain, OSI values were significantly higher in the 3-day high-dose group compared to others (p<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between the groups in ALT and AST values (p>0.05). CONCLUSION: The results of our study show that paracetamol inhibits the COX-3 enzyme in the liver but has no effect in the brain, and COX-3 does not have an effect on PGE 2. Paracetamol causes apoptosis in the liver only in low doses; higher doses may cause toxicity by increasing oxidative stress, especially in the brain.

Cu levels were increased in the group treated with DXR + vitamin E in comparison with DXR (p<0.05) and CoQ 10 groups (p = 0.001). Furthermore, copper levels were increased in the group treated with DXR + CoQ 10 in comparison with CoQ 10 group (p < 0.05). Zn levels were decreased in the group treated with DXR + vitamin E in comparison with CoQ 10 group (p < 0.05). Mg levels were decreased in subjects treated with DXR + vitamin E in comparison with the control group values (p < 0.05). Particularly, the observed increase in Cu levels in rats from DXR + vitamin E group might be due to the decrease of vitamin E. We studied the potential application of a zigzag and an armchair AlN nanotube (AlNNT) as an anode... more We studied the potential application of a zigzag and an armchair AlN nanotube (AlNNT) as an anode material for the Mg-ion batteries (MIBs) using B3LYP-gCP-D3/6-31G* model chemistry. The Mg 2+ adsorption energy on the zigzag or armchair AlNNTs is − 217.2 or − 234.9 kcal/mol, but the Mg atom interaction is much weaker and the adsorption energy is − 10.5 or − 5.3 kcal/mol. The dispersion term is much more important for the Mg interaction compared to the Mg 2+. This term includes 68.6% of the Mg atom adsorption energy on the zigzag tube while its contribution for Mg cation adsorption is about 3.8%. The maximum energy barrier for an Mg 2+ migration and cell voltage are 6.1 kcal/mol and 4.47 V for zigzag and 5.3 kcal/mol and 4.95 V for armchair AlNNT, respectively. Thus, the AlNNTs provide a great ion mobility leading to a faster charge/discharge rate because of small energy barriers. The larger cell voltage, and higher ion mobility suggest the armchair AlNNTs as a plausible anode material for application in the anode of MIBs, compared to the zigzag AlNNT. The effect of Mg/Mg 2+ adsorption on the electronic properties of AlNNTs is also discussed.

The aim of this study was to evaluate serum lipoprotein and tissue antioxidant levels of sheep wi... more The aim of this study was to evaluate serum lipoprotein and tissue antioxidant levels of sheep with and without fluorosis living in a volcanic area of Turkey. Fifteen Akkaraman sheep with fluorosis in the Ağri region north of Lake Van and 10 Akkaraman sheep without fluorosis in the Van region just south of Lake Van in the eastern part of Turkey were investigated. In the kidney tissues, the MDA levels and SOD activities in the fluorosed sheep showed nonsignificant increases, but the GSH level and GPx activities significantly decreased. In the liver tissues of the fluorosed sheep, a significant increase in the MDA level and GPx activity was observed, but the GSH level showed no change, and the SOD activity exhibited a small decrease. By contrast, in the muscle tissues, the MDA level decreased and the SOD activity increased significantly, whereas the GPx activity increased but not significantly, and the GSH levels decreased. Finally, the serum lipoprotein levels of the fluorosed and nonfluorosed sheep were not significantly different. In conclusion, different degrees in the pro-oxidant/antioxidant status of soft tissues such as kidney, liver, and muscle were affected by F intoxication, but no differences were found in the serum lipoprotein levels.
