It is crucial we understand how these changes in inequality may affect cohesion within society. We propose that economic inequality increases moralization – that is, the greater tendency to employ or emphasize morality in everyday life – as a response to the erosion of social fabric brought about by the unequal distribution of resources. While we may employ moralization as an attempt to restore social order, this enhanced tendency to view the world through a moral lens has the potential to sow divisions between people. Using data from social media as well as a multinational survey across 41 regions around the world, our work shows that economic inequality is associated with the use of moral language online as well as harsher moral judgments about the actions of others. Together these findings demonstrate that economic inequality is linked to the tendency to see the world through a moral lens. Understanding how societal structures impact our moral perspectives may help bridge the growing divisions between people and foster a more united society.

Data from focus groups and online survey with journalism students in Macedonia identified that: reporting on traumatic events can affect mental health; education can be a factor for coping and building resilience; educators lack adequate training; there are no adequate teaching materials in journalism courses at faculties; and at the end, students are not equipped with strategies and skills for dealing with trauma when reporting on trauma.

Scientific Reports

Although this societal commitment seems laudable, overly emphasizing positivity (versus negativity) may create an unattainable emotion norm that ironically compromises individual well-being. In this multi-national study (40 countries; 7443 participants), we investigate how societal pressure to be happy and not sad predicts emotional, cognitive and clinical indicators of well-being around the world, and examine how these relations differ as a function of countries’ national happiness levels (collected from the World Happiness Report). Although detrimental well-being associations manifest for an average country, the strength of these relations varies across countries. People’s felt societal pressure to be happy and not sad is particularly linked to poor well-being in countries with a higher World Happiness Index. Although the cross-sectional nature of our work prohibits causal conclusions, our findings ...

The initial analysis conducted in ISPJR showed that the official source/medium of information related to the conditions and measures regarding the COVID-19 pandemic was the official Facebook page of Minister of Health of Republic of Macedonia, and the digital posters worked as a tool for persuading citizens to behave responsibly. The sample consisted of digital posters that were posted from March 2020, and by the end of the year, a total of 113. As this research showed, the digital poster campaign focused on promoting disease prevention among the general population, as much as 93% of digital poster messages refer to this goal – what citizens can do to protect themselves and others from the coronavirus. Answering the main research question of how the relevant official (domestic) institutions shape the message that aims to motivate the population to comply with their recommendations, it can be summarized that in Republic of Macedonia, through Facebook, on the official page of the then Minister of Health an incompletely properly prepared communication campaign and an incompletely defined communication strategy were conducted.

In a time of restricted mobility, people had to rely on media news and information to help them understand the COVID-19 crisis, hear the latest information on the extent of the spread of the disease, and learn how they can protect themselves and their families. In conditions when the media become a single window to reality and events, the role of journalists is especially important, as in any crisis situation. Hence the research interest is on difficulties faced by journalists in carrying out their mission. The research question was defined as: "What are the challenges of journalism in the Republic of Macedonia during the pandemic? What did journalists actually face in the process of providing timely information to the public?" The definition of the research problem was aimed at examining how the pandemic affected journalism in terms of the safety of journalists' physical and mental health, changing working conditions, use of information sources, exposure to pressures and influences from various factors and / or institutions. This part of the research is actually in the field of psychology of personality and identity and it is based on the circumflex model of interpersonal behavior. The main hypothesis in this segment of the study assumed that certain sociodemographic factors influenced the identity perception of young people and that it has an impact in several segments of their socio-political life. Research sample size was 707 respondents, male 256 and 451 female students from Skopje, Tetovo and Bitola. When the factors are in focus, the data show that male, with a greater intensity than women perceive themselves as dominant, calculating, cold-blooded and introverted, while women with more intensity than men perceive themselves as cooperative; Albanians, in comparison with the Macedonians, in the description of self stress more: dominance, accountability, coldblooded, introvert, while the Macedonians, stress more: cooperation and sociability; respondents living in the village to a greater extent describe themselves as introverted, less dominant, compared to those living in the city. Those who live in the city, compared with those who live in the village over perceived themselves as social. The research contains findings from an analysis of the way gender-based violence is presented and represented in the broadcasters' news programs. In order to conduct the research, the Agency, through public procurement, hired the Institute for Sociological, Political and Juridical Research, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje. The recorded programs from the broadcasters from which it was necessary to define the sample were provided by the Agency. The material for analysis covered the first ten days of January, February and March 2023.
By applying quantitative and qualitative methods, an effort is made to determine the way of representation and presentation of gender-based violence in the information content of the national televisions in Macedonia. The quantitative part of the analysis aims to show how much the topic was represented in the television news programs, whether it had an appropriate, relevant position in the news content and how many journalists practiced self-regulation by applying journalistic standards when creating the articles.
The qualitative part of the analysis was aimed at determining the way in which the subject of sex and gender-based violence was handled, in what way the narrative was constructed about the persons who were exposed to violence, the persons who committed the violence, the way in which the event was interpreted and the socio-cultural context. In addition to the analysis of content, the method of discursive analysis was applied in order to investigate how gender-based violence was framed within the social context.
