Some reviews of the legislative and regulatory scenarios, show a clear lack of consideration of the non-auditory effects produced by exposure to noise and poor acoustic quality in the workplace, this paper refers to experiences and methods aimed at understanding the different aspects of risk. Non-auditory aspects are added to the auditory ones, considered at the moment as the only area of noise risk assessment. The acute extra-auditory effects from exposure to noise are also studied. Among the risk-enhancing factors we consider the negative synergy between noise and air pollution. Analysis of industrial noise at operator’s positions of different industrial sites was carried out. The results of measurements are allowing determine positions with significant excesses of the sanitary standards of noise level...

The main objective of the participation of AIDII in these projects was the diffusion and promotion of occupational hygiene in Italy and in the world, creating and developing partnerships and collaborations with other scientific associations, institutions, universities, public and private research and education bodies operating in the health and safety sector with the occupational hygiene approach. The participation and coordination of these projects has allowed AIDII to increase its national and international visibility, seizing opportunities to experiment and share good hygiene practices and, last but not least, to obtain positive economic contributions for the financial asset of the Association. In this paper the implementation of these projects is summar...

The idea moves from the multi-sensorial conception of landscape and its perception and define a process that attempts to actively involve all the real or potential stakeholders. A number of Florentine squares, green spaces and other urban open areas have been chosen for testing the methodology. In this paper the authors describe the Piazza della Vittoria case study, where not only measurements of the overall effects of noise, in terms of sound level and frequency, but also levels of perceived annoyance are considered. So the quantitative estimate of the environmental benefits can be expressed both as the increase in the number of residents joining a quiet area and as increased level of their comfort. In the Piazza four different sub-areas have been investigated applying to them a procedure of par...

Following the article 9 of END, information to the public must be ensured by Member States as the strategic noise maps are adopted and the action plans are drawn up. Data should be made fully available and disseminated to the public, information must be clear, comprehensible and accessible. Sometimes the participation of public is needed to make the best choice among different solutions for actions of noise reduction plan and acoustic quality improvement in strategic action plans, sometimes the public can be involved, as main stakeholder, in the definition of policies for noise control at local level including regulations for the correct use of entertainment ares and quiet areas as well. In this paper a general review of different scenarios where participation of the public is preferable since it can give cru...

Some design methodologies inspired by the principles of global comfort and a set of acoustic and non-acoustic variables that characterize the well-being perceived in employment are illustrated.A case study, representing the application of global comfort principles to acoustic design is shown: acoustic and comfort remediation and improvement is reported, relating to a large industrial environment, part of the BRIC inter-university research project called “Definition of innovative guidelines, based on the state of the art, for the purposes of designing, building, certifying and reclaiming machines, equipment and work environme...

It consists of coordinated activities on regional, national, and international levels, organized by the International Commission for Acoustics. These activities aim to stimulate the understanding of the importance of sound in all aspects of our society throughout the world. In this paper, the aim of the International Year of Sound is described, together with the organization of activities and planned initiatives. Despite the pandemic context has caused the rescheduling of most of the events, the International Year of Sound has been going on, thanks to the awareness-raising projects of the National Commissions for Acoustics. A particular focus on “My world of sounds”, the International Competition for students, has been done. As a matter of fact, it has been observed that the awareness of younger generations play...

The Palace has been interested by various architectural interventions occurred in different historical periods. In 1437 a series of grandiose works of unification, enlargement and modernization were undertaken by Michelozzo who created a grand palace with a large open loggia much admired at the time. In 1709 a large, still existing, ballroom was built with a stage for the orchestra. The last major renovation was carried out at the beginning of the nineteenth century by Camillo Borghese: on the first floor, the monumental rooms, above all the main hall and the hall of mirrors, stand out for their magnificence, with a great profusion of gilded stuccoes, marble statues, columns, carved chandeliers, paintings. Currently some areas of the building are us...

After a first evaluation performed by means of standardized validated questionnaires, the current study performed an in-depth investigation by means of quantitative methods including: (i) the determination of mineral elements contents in subjects’ hair sample; (ii) blood sampling for analysis of principal biological indicators; (iii) anamnestic interview and (iv) environmental monitoring of the workplace for the assessment of the exposure to physical, biological, and chemical risk factors. The anamnestic analysis outlined slight differences between workers which resulted under “moderate stress” (MS) or not subjected to stress (NSS). In particular, MS workers resulted in a higher number of smokers and of subject affected to chronic disorders. Further, statistical analysis demonstrate...
