The aim of this research is to evaluate English II curriculum at YTU using Context, Input, Proces... more The aim of this research is to evaluate English II curriculum at YTU using Context, Input, Process and Product (CIPP) model. The universe of this research is composed of 35 teachers and 415 students. The source of data has been obtained through two forms of a single questionnaire for the teachers and students which consisted of 46 items. In this research, the data has been analyzed using the technique of independent samples t-test. From their responses to the scales representing the curriculum components such as context, input, process and product, it is concluded that, mostly, teachers and students tend to support all four of these curriculum components. However, according to the findings of the study, significant differences have been observed between the means of teachers' and students' opinions concerning certain items related with the context, input, process and product component of the curriculum. This result indicates that while the students' perceptions are higher, the teachers' expectations are higher for the items regarding the components of the curriculum. According to the findings obtained from teachers' opinions, it is essential that audiovisual materials must be varied and implemented properly in the activities. According to the students' opinions, the students' needs related with their fields and English knowledge necessary for business life must be determined.

This paper is an attempt to evaluate the Emotional Intelligence (EQ) In-Service Program on the ba... more This paper is an attempt to evaluate the Emotional Intelligence (EQ) In-Service Program on the basis of experiences of 20 secondary school teachers who attended the program in a private school in Turkey. A phenomenological approach, with a focus group method was used. The first objective of this study was to evaluate EQ program on the basis of teachers' experiences. The second was to explore the teachers' perceptions about the implications of EQ skills in classroom situations. The results were discussed in terms of the evaluation of the EQ program and its implications for learning and teaching activities in the classroom.

Bu araştırmada, ilköğretim beş, altı, yedi ve sekizinci sınıf öğrencilerinin algıladıkları sosyal... more Bu araştırmada, ilköğretim beş, altı, yedi ve sekizinci sınıf öğrencilerinin algıladıkları sosyal destek türlerinin sıklık ve önem düzeyi puanlarının, sosyal destek kaynaklarına göre anlamlı bir fark gösterip göstermediği incelenmiştir. Tarama modelinde yürütülen bu araştırmaya, İstanbul ilindeki 19 ilköğretim okulunun beş, altı, yedi ve sekizinci sınıflarına devam eden 2148 (1068 kız, 1080 erkek) öğrenci katılmıştır. "Çocuk ve Ergenler İçin Sosyal Destek Ölçeği (ÇESDÖ)" ile toplanan veriler, Tekrarlı Ölçümler İçin Anova ile çözümlenmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda, öğrencilerin algıladıkları sosyal destek türlerinin sıklık ve önem düzeyi puanlarının, sosyal destek kaynaklarına (aile, öğretmenler, sınıf arkadaşları, yakın arkadaş, okuldaki diğer insanlar) göre anlamlı bir fark gösterdiği bulunmuştur (p<.05). Bu bulgu, destek kaynağının özelliğine (duygusal yakınlık, tutum, rol, statü) göre öğrencilerin tercih ettikleri destek türlerinin farklılaştığını göstermiştir.

Phenomenologically, self-perception and identity develop as experience unfolds. Clarifying this p... more Phenomenologically, self-perception and identity develop as experience unfolds. Clarifying this process can be used as a method of inquiry. Narratives of experience on both humane and social concerns mesh with the exploration of discursive and cultural contents that are filled with emotional contents. The article offers a theoretical overview on the intercultural and social construction of identity that occurs when people have prolonged contacts with another culture. It shows in what way the processes of acculturation entail identity changes in the course of which one becomes, momentarily, foreign to oneself. Unfolding narratively such identity processes places the participant into an inquiry in which truth telling becomes an educational methodology in the quest for meaning. The reflections in this article are discussed around the frame of educational and curriculum inquiry.

Araştırma, doğal ortamda, nitel (örnek olay teori testi) ve ni cel araştırma yaklaşımı birlikte kullanılarak uygulanmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma gnıbunu Kartal Mesleki Eğitim Merkezi Tesviye Böliitnü'nün Sağlık Eğitimi Programı kapsamında 'Kanamalarda İlkyardım' kur sunu alan 34 öğrenci oluşturmuştur. Araştırmanın nitel boyutunda, görüşme ve gözlemle elde edilen veri ler, yapılandırılmış raporlama yöntemiyle analiz, edilmiş ve yorumlanmıştır. Araştırmanın nicel boyutunda, ön-test ve son-test ile elde edilen veriler, bağımlı gruplar t testi ile analiz edilmiş ve yorumlanmıştır. Birleş tirme II Tekniği'yle oluşturulan işbirliğine dayalı öğrenme ortamının, önhazırlık süreci hariç, öğrenciler üzerinde olumlu etkisinin olduğu sonucuna varılabilir. Ahslract The nıain purpose of this research \vas to detenııine the effects of the Jigsatv II Technique on students in a cooperative leaming environment. The subjects were 34 students studying at the Moulding Department, Kartal Vocational Training Çenter and taking the course "First Aid in Blceding Cases" as a part of the Health Education Program. A ıjualitative approach was taken with data gathered from observations and inlervieıvs being analyzcd and interpreted through a structııred report technique. With respect to the quanlilalive nıetlıod of the research, the data gathered from pretest-posttest \vere analyzed and interpreted using a dependent sample T test. Resulls suggest there is a positive effect \vith llıe Jigsacv II Tectınique, other ıhan \vilh the preparatory work, on the students in a cooperative leaming atmosphere.

The purpose of this study was to determine the validity and reliability of the evaluation scale d... more The purpose of this study was to determine the validity and reliability of the evaluation scale developed by the researcher based on the principles of Stufflebeam's CIPP Evaluation Model (1988) within the context of the evaluation of English curriculum of Yildiz Technical University. While the scale preparation, by taking advantage of the theoretical information and principles of CIPP Evaluation Model the rough scale composing 65 items was generated and the opinions of the experts were asked for the content and face validity of the scale. Finally, the scale was administered to a large group of students (n=415) from different faculties of Yildiz Technical University in Istanbul. Like the original form, the results of factor analysis indicated that the CIPP Evaluation Model Scale had four factors consisting of context, input, process and product and consisted of 46 items. It was evident from the results that the scale called CIPP Evaluation Scale (CIPP) as a valid and reliable curriculum evaluation instrument can be used in the field of education.

This presentation is to examine whether a model of 'Social Constructivist Learning Environment' (... more This presentation is to examine whether a model of 'Social Constructivist Learning Environment' (SCLE) design developed by Fer by utilizing six different research studies is effective for the learning process, ethnocentrism and intercultural approaches, as well as for the academic achievement of students in different grades. The theoretical framework of SCLE comes from both Dewey's famous expression of 'learning by doing' and Vygotsky's 'zone of proximal development' ideas. SCLE consists of four main stages that include learner analysis, context determination, meaning construction, and learning evaluation. The role of the teacher in SCLE design is to serve as both a facilitator and moderator to the students. In general, SCLE design is effective for students of different grades, based on the results of six different research studies. It has been shown to be effective in the learning processes, ethnocentrism and intercultural approaches, as well as in academic achievement.

This study was designed to investigate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of Str... more This study was designed to investigate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of Strategy Inventory of Language Learning (SILL), which was developed by Oxford (1990). The inventory was applied to the subjects of 768 prep students who were enrolled English Prep Classes in seven different universities such as Yildiz Technical University, Istanbul Technical University, Bogazici University, Maltepe University, Bahcesehir University, Istanbul Bilgi University, and Sabanci University, in Istanbul, Turkey. Pearson's correlations between Turkish and English versions of the survey ranging from, except for the items 5., 12. and 29., .38 to .91 among the 6 subscales indicated acceptable reliability. The correlations were significant at the .00 and .01 level. The results of factor analysis for construct validity of the inventory addressed six dimensional constructs with 47 items. The total internal reliability of scale was .92 reliability coefficients. Findings demonstrated that the subscales had internal consistency reliabilities, item total correlation, ranged from .27 to .62. Test re-test reliability for external reliability of subscales was between .67-.82. The results were discussed in terms of the validity and reliability of the Turkish version.
