Such an architecture can be regarded as the next-generation anxiety risk classification mean for the healthcare industry 4.0 as it will be capable of generating automated and quick actions through the use of analytics on the collected data and predefined thresholds. Based on Internet of Things and wearable healthcare sensors, the proposed end-to-end communication architecture is capable of detecting physiological data related to heart rate, blood pressure, and SPO2, and communicate them to remote cloud servers. Based on this collected data, the centralized dashboard will classify in real time the patients of each geographic region involved according to a specific attribute, namely: normal, mild, moderate, high, severe, or ex...

The chapter starts with the introduction to different kinds of noise that can be encountered in any kind of wireless communication networks, different kinds of wavelet transform and wavelet packet transform methods that can be used for denoising sensor signals in IoT networks and the different processing steps that are needed to be followed to accomplish wavelet packet transform for the sensor signals. Finally, a universal framework based on energy correlation analysis has been presented for denoising sensor signals in IoT networks, and such a framework can achieve considerable improvement in denoising performance reducing the effective noise correlation coefficient to 0.00001 or lower. Moreover, this method is found to be equally effective for Gaussian or impact noise or both.

Significant clinical evidence suggests that music has a positive influence over pain, stress and anxiety for the patients of cancer, pre and post surgery, insomnia, child birth, end of life care, etc. Similarly, the technologies of Internet of Things (IoT), Body Area Networks (BAN) and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) have been playing a vital role to improve the health and safety of the population through offering continuous remote monitoring facilities and immediate medical response. In this article, we propose a novel ANN enabled IoT architecture to integrate music therapy with BAN and ANN for providing immediate assistance to patients by automating the process of music therapy. The proposed architecture comprises of monitoring the body parameters of patients using BAN, categorizing the disease using ANN and playing music of the most appropriate type over th...

Most past preemptive MAC schemes are based on scheduling the high priority packets earlier than those of lower priority. However, in a majority of these schemes, high priority traffic must wait for the ongoing transmission of lower priority traffic due to the non-availability of an interruption mechanism. This paper presents the design and high-level implementation details of a fragmentation scheme (FROG-MAC) for heterogeneous traffic in WSN. FROG-MAC aims at guaranteeing quick transmission of high priority/emergency traffic by interrupting ongoing on channel transmissions. High level implementation of FROG-MAC has been developed in MATLAB as a proof of concept. Traffic of two priorities was generated and a single hop star topology of 100 nodes was used for the experiments. Effect of the proposed fragmentation scheme has bee...

A number of Multi-channel MAC protocols have been proposed which guarantee parallel and collision free transmissions. This article proposes to evaluate an existing congestion control scheme that was developed for multi-channel WSN MAC protocols dealing with traffic of different priorities. The existing scheme proposed prioritized channel sharing mechanism for nodes based on the Received Signal Strength (RSS) of each priority. The authors analyze the performance of the proposed scheme by comparing it with other channel sharing mechanisms. Four cases of hybrid channel sharing mechanisms, namely complete partitioning, complete sharing, partial sharing and prioritized sharing have been studied in this work for 2 traffic priorities. The authors have modeled the schemes for WSN applications where each node may have traffic of different priorities. Major ...

An optimum means of preserving energy must always be deployed. Energy management in networks is also considered as one of the most crucial topics in the development of green networks. In this paper, we propose a modified duty-cycle based MAC protocol named as ES-MAC (Energy Efficient Sensor MAC). It involves energy efficient mechanism for wireless sensor motes by making them sleep when idle and by reducing the number of transmitted packets using Selective Data Transmission (SDT). Sleep intervals are improved by using the concept of Dynamic Data Cycle (DDC). The proposed protocol is shown to be efficient by test bed implementation, which is our major contribution. We compared the results of ES-MAC with two control cases. TinyOS and Crossbow motes are used for implementing the nested C code.

Various MAC layer protocols for WSN have been proposed for efficient management of delay. Analyzing single hop and end to end delay using queuing analysis can provide significant help in modeling various real time WSN applications. This paper parameterizes the cross-layer analysis framework for investigating the single hop delay distribution of a cross layer WSN MAC protocol PRMAC. The analysis demonstrates how the methodology can be applied to a cross layer protocol embedding key details of the protocol such as impact of control packets (PION) modeling. An example of the analysis is illustrated using a single hop delay for a node with a small buffer.
