The purpose of this study was to access the relative weights of these sociability factors which the authors garnered from the literature on educational MMORPGs. Design/methodology/approach-The authors used fuzzy-AHP approach to access the relative weights of these sociability factors they garnered from the literature on educational MMORPGs. To do this, a questionnaire using a pair-wise comparison data input format was administered to 242 school teachers to gather assessments for the factors. Findings-The authors found five most important factors affecting sociability-cooperation, teambased reward, discussion of strategy, reputation, and social navigation. Originality/value-Although prior studies have identified various factors that facilitate sociability in educational MMORPGs, the relative importance of these factors has not been determined. The results can not only be used to help educational MMORPG developers focus on the most important sociability factors and propose specific guidelines for designing educational MMORPGs, but can also identify the best design strategy for promoting sociability of educational MMORPGs.

Four groups of 20 subjects (10 males and 10 females in each) executed two segments of continuous right-hand practice on a mirror-tracking task. The two segments were separated either by 0 min rest, 5 min rest, 5 min continuous right-hand practice on rotary pursuit, or 5 min continuous left-hand practice on rotary pursuit. Effects of interpolated conditions were measured in terms of main-task reminiscence and initial post-treatment performance. When interpolated practice was conducted with the right hand, reminiscence and posttreatment performance were significantly depressed relative to the rest effect, but not when interpolated practice was conducted with the left hand. Thus, Hull's views were supported, while competing views, such as the task specificity concept of I" and the consolidation theory of reminiscence, were impugned.

Analyzing high dimensional data and incorporating accurate life expectancy indices using machine learning methods may improve the accuracy of the prediction of the long-term prognosis of critically ill cirrhotic patients. OBJECTIVE To develop highly accurate 365-day candidate life expectancy models based on machine learning methods, and compare their accuracy with CLIF-SOFA scores in critically ill cirrhotic patients. METHODS This study analyzed 141 prospective predictor variables on day 1 of 294 cirrhotic patients admitted to a 10-bed specialized hepato-gastroenterology ICU in a 2000-bed tertiary care referral hospital from September 2010 to August 2013. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) method was used to select subsets of predictor variables. Model validation was applied to compare multiple life-expectancy models with CLIF-SOFA scores. RESULTS The overall ...

To reduce the medical staff's workload and improve their efficiency, we propose a user-centered approach for next generation ICU system development. The user-centered approach contains four phases: (1) user problem exploration; (2) user needs and requirements identification; (3) human-machine interface solution generation; and (4) user evaluation. The results from user evaluation of human-machine interface concepts showed that the user-centered approach is effective incorporating user needs and requirements into product development.

Thirty-two rectangular prisms each composed of a specific structure of five form features were used as materials for subjects to evaluate the similarity between every two samples. Results of MDS and cluster analysis indicated that subjects could precisely perceive the similarity between every two images according to the salience of form features. It has been found that even though there are multiple and complicated combinations of form features in objects, it is possible for people to make decisions for the feature matching behavior. Moreover, this kind of feature matching process is closely related to the differences in salience between various form features. Results of the study demonstrated that in dealing with the similarity identification task, human beings are able to use their structural ability to handle effectively the visual information that looks complicated but possesses specific relations between form features.

However, little research has focused on the influence of organizational factors on safety in these countries. This study hypothesized that organizational factors, characterized as safety leadership perspective (management commitment, blame culture) and safety climate perspective (harmonious relationships), would influence group-level safety management, which would in turn influence individual level safety awareness and practices. To test this hypothesis, a safety climate questionnaire was distributed to ten Taiwanese plants in high-risk industries. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to analyze the linkages among organizational level factors, work-group-level factors, and workers' safety awareness and practices. We found that safety leadership style and organizational harmony in Taiwanese high-risk industries can exert significant influences on work-group processes, which in turn have greater effects on individual safety awareness and practices. These findings and implications can serve as a basis for safety improvement in areas of the greater China region.

Innovation and responsiveness to consumer needs are key factors to product success. To meet consumer needs, product development requires a human-centered design approach. The essence of human-centered design is to integrate technology and other resources in ways to support users in fulfilling their needs (Rouse, 1991). This special issue, ''Ergonomics in product design'', highlights the progress of ergonomic applications in the Pacific Rim, one of the world's largest product design and manufacturing centers. Six papers were collected in this issue. Of these six, the first two papers deal with design for comfort. Goonetilleke and Feizhou argue against the notion that seat depth is primarily governed by anthropometric data. Instead, they develop a methodology, consisting of both objective and subjective measurements, to evaluate useful seat depth. By systematically measuring both seat edge protrusion and acceptability/overall discomfort rating of various seat depths, they identify appropriate seat depth for Chinese population in the South China region. Moreover, Kubo et al. explore the relations between physical reactions to vibration and the resulting psychological and physiological reactions to that vibration. They construct a model to predict psychological and physiological reactions to vibration. This model can be applied to determine an optimal structure design for automobiles that can result in comfortable rides. Kansei engineering addresses the issue of consumers' feeling towards the product (see Nagamachi and Imada, 1995). The next two papers apply Kansei engineering to the form design of high-tech products. Chuang and Ma explore the relationship between form and product image of microelectronic products. By doing so, they develop a

Our approach addresses DTV usefulness and usability issues and entails two phases. A user activity analysis is conducted in phase one, and activities and their social/cultural context are identified. DTV service functions are then conceived to support user activities and their context. DTV service usefulness can be ensured as a result. The user interface design considers both activity requirements and user requirements such as user’s related product experience, mental model, and preferences in phase two. Consequently, DTV usability is achieved. A DTV user interface concept is thus proposed. The interface design concept contains the following design features: activityoriented user interface flow, remote control for universal access, shallow menu hierarchy, display management, adaptive information presentation, and context sensitive functions. Usability evaluation results indicate th...
