With the advent of microsurgery, the work hose flap for this area shifted from cross leg to free and local perforator flaps. Children with such defects pose a bigger problem because of smaller caliber of vessels, difficult immobilization and poor compliance. We, hereby, report a case of a 12 year old child who had an exposed distal half of calcaneum, which warranted a cross leg or free flap, but was managed successfully by distally based peroneus brevis muscle.

It is also known as "ulcus rodens". It is the most common type of skin cancer and accounts for approximately 80% of all the non-melanoma skin cancers. There are no precursor lesions described for BCC. In 80-85% of the cases, BCC most frequently develops over head and neck. Rarely, basal cell carcinoma has been reported over unusual non-sun-exposed locations such as axilla, groins, umbilicus, trunk, palm and soles. Only 10% of BCC are seen over trunk. BCC is rarely reported in childhood. We report a case of pigmented basal cell carcinoma in a 22-year-old female located on trunk, highlighting its dermoscopic, histopathological and immunohistochemistry findings.

Chronically ill, bed ridden and aged patients are always predisposed to development of pressure injury unless nursed with frequent position changes over an air mattress [2]. Every now and then, we come across, young patients who develop PI, either because of insensate and powerless lower limbs or prolonged bed ridden medical conditions. The temptation to close any pressure ulcer primarily should always be resisted [3]. We hereby, present a case report of a 17 years boy, who sustained cervical spine injury after road traffic accident, 10 months back and later developed multiple pressure injuries over bilateral trochanter and left ilium. We discuss the pathognomics of occurrence of pressure injury at unusual sites like ilium and our management for coverage of such defects.

The contour of the cheek, midface width and height are attributed to the normal anatomy of this bone along with its articulation with surrounding bones. Injury to zygoma is common and its management has various options. We planned to retrospectively study the spectrum of zygomatic fractures presenting to our tertiary care hospital and to enumerate the various types of treatments given to them. This study was retrospectively planned to study the epidemiology of patientsMaterial and methods- who presented to hospital from January 2015 to December 2019 and were diagnosed with isolated Zygomaticomaxillary Complex (ZMC) fractures. The type and clinical features of zygoma fractures, CT ndings, Indications, Surgical or Non Surgical treatment given to them and timing of surgery were enumerated. Post operative complications like enopthalmos, diplopia, scarring were recorded. A total number of 320 patients were found to ...

Non traumatic antero medial dislocation of mandibular condyle is common but traumatic posterior, ... more Non traumatic antero medial dislocation of mandibular condyle is common but traumatic posterior, superior and lateral dislocation of bilateral intact condyle is very rare and only 7 cases have been reported so far. Out of these 3 cases are reported to undergo closed reduction. Acute dislocation of condyle is amenable to conservative approach as the difficulty in reduction increasesproportionally with time. We report a case of bilateral superolateral dislocation of condyle with segmental symphyseal fracture managed by closed reduction of condylar and open reduction with internal fixation of symphyseal fracture. We emphasize the importance of early 3 D CT and early intervention in such cases for adequate post-operative dental occlusion and mouth opening. INTRODUCTION: Fractured condyle dislocations account for 28% of all mandibular fractures1but intact condylar dislocations are rare. It represents 3% of all reported dislocated joints. 2 Most commonly condylar dislocations are caused b...

Patients undergo surgical open reduction and internal fixation where post-operative occlusion and normal masticatory functions are targeted. Bite force can be taken as a guide of normal masticatory function of an individual which is dependent upon craniomandibular biomechanics. The aim of the study was to analyse bite force measurements post-operatively in patients who underwent open reduction and internal fixation for mandible fractures at different sites. Methods: Molar bite force was recorded in 31 post-operative patients who underwent open surgical procedure for fracture mandible in the department of plastic surgery from January 2018 to June 2019 by a pre-scale bite force recorder-Nupai bite force prescale system (FujiTM). Various parameters were recorded pre and post-operatively including age, ...

The ABC generally occurs during the first two decades of life and has a slight predilection for the female sex. Radiographically, ABC is usually eccentric, lytic and expansile with well defined margins. Soft tissue or extra osseous ABC is extremely rare in occurrence, with only few case reports found in literature. Extraosseous ABC is usually found in soft tissues of lower limb and arm. Its occurrence in soft tissue of hands is extremely rare. Hereby, authors reported a case of a 30-year-old male patient who had swelling of approximately 9×6 cm in hypothenar area of left hand starting proximally from the wrist crease and extending distally till distal palmar crease and from the ulnar border of the palm till the mid palmer area. Authors described this case to highlight this entity, at an uncommon location (hypothenar area...

Research paper thumbnail of Diagnostic tools in maxillofacial fractures: Is there really a need of three-dimensional computed tomography?

Indian Journal of Plastic Surgery, 2016

Introduction: Because of its functional and cosmetic importance, facial injuries, especially bony... more Introduction: Because of its functional and cosmetic importance, facial injuries, especially bony fractures are clinically very significant. Missed and maltreated fractures might result in malocclusion and disfigurement of the face, thus making accurate diagnosis of the fracture very essential. In earlier times, conventional radiography along with clinical examination played a major role in diagnosis of maxillofacial fractures. However, it was noted that the overlapping nature of bones and the inability to visualise soft tissue swelling and fracture displacement, especially in face, makes radiography less reliable and useful. Computed tomography (CT), also called as X-ray computed radiography, has helped in solving this problem. This clinical study is to compare three-dimensional (3D) CT reconstruction with conventional radiography in evaluating the maxillofacial fractures preoperatively and effecting the surgical management, accordingly. Materials and Methods: Fifty patients, with ...

This 8-year-old male child underwent successful palatoplasty under general anesthesia. Till date there are approximately 60 cases of Seckel syndrome reported in the literature. The syndrome which has autosomal recessive inheritance is characterized by Intra Uterine Growth Retardation, microcephaly, dwarfism, and bird-like face. The associated features of the syndrome and technical details of surgery and anesthesia are discussed.
