This paper describes visualization techniques derived from Jungian principles, as a practical means for the recovery-oriented psychotherapist to foster a spiritual connection. They are also useful in work on the psychological and interpersonal issues that emerge as the client establishes abstinence and progresses from there. This approach does not require allegiance to any spect~c religious beliefs, but allows the client to build on an inner experience as a way to develop resources in recovery.

The philosophy'of accountability is discussed as to the demand for accountability, the possibility of using accountability as a political tool, the promise made by accountability and whether the promise can be kept, difficult issues, who is accountable to whom, and resistances to accountability. System approaches to accountability are viewed from the standpoint of first, establishing goals and objectives, and second, developing systems for evaluations, feedback, and corrective action. Specific program approaches to accountability described are external performance contracting, internal performance contracting, the voucher system, external audit or EPA, systems analysis, and PPBS. The evaluation portion of educational accountability is presented as to what evaluative research is, who should do the evaluation, types of evaluation studies, evaluation procedures, research design and measurement, and technique used to analyze evaluation data. Five case studies are provided as illustrations of attempts to implement accountability systems. The programs described are the

Data from the clinical study were obtained from two psychotherapy groups conducted for mid-life women, and the field data were obtained from a 5-yr longitudinal study of life stages. Results indicated an increase in morale during the unfolding of the empty nest and suggested that the so-called "crisis" of the empty nest may be more myth than reality.

Hierarchical set regression analysis indicated that socio-demographic variables generally are unrelated to symptom expression, although age, gender, length of marriage, and length of separation did predict either agitated depressive or stress symptoms. Several dimensions of social stressors contributed to the prediction of one or more of six symptom factors, but symptoms also were associated with current psychological well-being. These results suggest that the symptomatology of divorcing persons can be partitioned into that which is consequent to the disruptive conditions encountered in divorce and that which may reflect characteristic levels of mental health.

An earlier paper described visualizations derived from Jungian principles, aiming particularly at calming, centering, and strengthening the spiritual connection. This paper focusses on work with feelings that arise in recovery. It describes the differing stance towards emotions in psychotherapy and in spiritual disciplines, and how these can be unified using VisuaIizations.
