A survey questionnaire was designed based on the following essential questions: 1) Are collegiate preservice vocal music education majors fully prepared to teach the whole learner at the middle school level? 2) Are collegiate music programs training pre-service vocal music educators to teach the middle school learner? And 3) Is teaching middle school choir class, effectively, entirely left up to post-service choir teachers to learn by trial and error? Two choir teacher expert groups, in their first to fourth year of teaching middle school choir, were invited to participate in this study. The choir teacher expert groups are referred to as Group A and Group B. Group A (N = 3) consists of a small group of middle school choir teachers within the East Baton Rouge Parish School District and are members of the Louisiana Music Education Association (LMEA). Group B (N = 2) consists of a small group of middle school choir teachers that teach, regionally, across Southeast Louisiana and are members of LMEA. In order to conduct this research study, a two-section survey questionnaire was designed utilizing a modified Delphi mixed method process.
