The electrical power is the major source of the world today. Due to economics of scale and environmental concerns, generation facilities have been favoring for large power plants, which are of the order of hundreds of megawatts and located in non-populated areas away from the loads. The generation plants that operate on coal or nuclear fuel cause a lot of pollution. The energy available from sun and wind are absolutely clean and do not produce any pollutants that can damage the atmosphere. Solar cells and windmills can be installed, and electricity can be produced from them. DG cost has recently decreased because of introduction of new technologies, which are more viable. It is hard to add new transmission lines due to its high cost and problem of right of way considering the fact that the existing lines are getting overloaded, and there is a need to add the new generation closer to the load centers. This requires new technologies and distributed generation to be adopted. Distributed generation uses small electrical power generations by its definition and nearly less than 30 MW located near to the load centers. Deployment of distributed energy system on the consumer side acts as a supplement to the micro-grid that enhances reliability of the power system and provides continuity of power supply to critical loads in case of grid collapse and natural disasters such as earthquake

The star-connected, n-level CMC is connected to the winding taps on the primary windings of the transformer to achieve voltage stress reduction and maintain a flexible connection voltage level.Taking full use of the spare capacity of distribution transformer, a compromise between cascaded cells count and the voltage stress is achieved. The CMC-based DSTATCOM is controlled as a controlled current source to inject compensation current to the primary windings through the taps. A modified decoupled current control is proposed to control the system. Simulation model and scale-down prototype are developed to verify the performance of the proposed integrated structure. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate the good performance of the proposed structure for reactive power compensation. Keywords— Custom power, Distribution...

A field experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of tillage and irrigation management on wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) production in a post-rice (Oryza sativa L.) management system on sandy loam soil for 2009 to 2010 and 2011 to 2012. Four irrigation levels (I 1 :irrigation at crown root initiation (CRI); I 2 :irrigation at CRI+jointing; I 3 :irrigation at CRI+ jointing+ flowering; I 4 :irrigation at CRI+ jointing+flowering+dough) stages and three tillage systems (ZT: zero tillage;BPW:bed planted wheat and CT:conventional tillage) were tested. Zero tillage compared to CT, resulted in higher bulk density (1.60 vs 1.49 Mg•m-3), lower total porosity (49.3 vs 53.7%), higher penetration resistance (1.50 vs 1.24 MPa), and lower steady state infiltration rate (0.18 vs 0.38 mm•h-1) in the surface 0 to 15 cm soil layer.Irrigation levels significantly affected crop water use, wheat yield, and water use efficiency (WUE). Aggregates<25 mm ZT was significantly higher (4.4%), than CT and BPW methods (3.2 and 3.4%, respectively. Grain yield declined by 20.5, 11.7 and 7.7% of I4 (4.57 Mg•ha-1) with I 1 ,I 2 and I 3 treatments. Average values of WUE were 17.40, 15.97 kg•ha-1• mm-1 and 14.88 m 3 •kg-1 grain for the BPW, ZT and CT treatments and water storage efficiency were 21.9, 24.5 and 29.2%, for CT, ZT and BPW, respectively.

One strategy to address this problem is to enhance the activity spectrum of known antifungals, and we now report the first successful application of Candida antarctica lipase (CAL) for the preparation of optically enriched fluconazole analogs. Anti-Aspergillus activity was observed for an optically enriched derivative, (-)-S-2-(2' ,4' -difluorophenyl)-1-hexyl-amino-3-(1‴,2‴,4‴) triazol-1‴-yl-propan-2-ol, which exhibits MIC values of 15.6 μg/mL and 7.8 μg/disc in microbroth dilution and disc diffusion assays, respectively. This compound is tolerated by mammalian erythrocytes and cell lines (A549 and U87) at concentrations of up to 1000 μg/mL. When incorporated into dextran nanoparticles, the novel, optically enriched fluconazole analog exhibited improved antifungal activity against Aspergillus fumigatus (MIC = 1.63 μg/m...

The objective of the study was to compare the conventional planting methods (22.5 cm) and broadcasting method of wheat sowing with drill planting method [15.0, 17.5, 20.0 cm and paired row (15:25 cm)] for grain yield and its parameters. The experiment comprised of six (15, 17.5, 20, 22.5 and 15:25 cm paired spaced rows and broad casting) treatments arranged in randomized complete block design with three replications in a net plot size of 13 × 8 m. The results over the years of the study revealed that, the germination were statistically at par in drill sowing at 17.5 cm apart rows and broadcasting. Better plant height was noted in drill planting with 17.5, 20 cm rows and 15:25 cm paired rows. However, number of spikelets spike-1 and number of grains spike-1 were statistically similar in drilling at 17.5, 20, and 15:25 cm paired apart rows. Similarly, 1000 grain weight was recorded in drill sowing at 20 cm and 15:25 cm paired rows. The maximum grain yield was obtained through 15:25 cm paired rows drill planting method and it was statistically at par with drill planting method where row spacing was 20 cm. Whereas, drill-planting techniques with row spacing 15 cm was inferior to broadcast method. It may be concluded that, 15:25 cm paired rows and 20 cm drill planting method is suitable for wheat sowing in sandy loam soils of irrigated areas of western Uttar Pradesh.

The major concerns were effectiveness of laser land leveling as a water saving tool in the new context of land use and ownership, affordability of laser land leveling for farmers and the economic viability of this technology. These research questions were studied in a sizable area of laser leveled and neighboring non-leveled (control) fields for 2009 to 2011. The result indicated that with laser leveling, farmers could save irrigation water 21%, energy by 31% and obtained 6.6, 5.4 and 10.9% in rice, wheat and sugarcane higher yields. The total irrigation duration and applied water depth was reduced to 10.9, 14.7% in rice; 13.7, 13.3% in wheat and 13.5, 20.3% in sugar-cane as compared to traditional leveled fields. The laser leveled fields exhibited the highest water use efficiency (WUE), which was 48, 47 and 49% higher in precisely leveled field than control (unleveled), 22, 19 and 20% higher than traditionally leveling fields, respectively. The average water productivity in rice, wheat and sugarcane has improved by 33%. The average annual net income from the laser field was 14, 13.5 and 23.8% in rice, wheat, sugarcane higher than that from the traditional leveled field. It was concluded that the use of laser land leveling increases yield and saves irrigation water as compared to traditional method of leveling in different cropping system prevailing in western U.P.
