Research paper thumbnail of Experimental Studies on n-Octane and Cyclohexane as Organic Solvent for Synthesis of Polyurea Microcapsules by Interfacial Polycondensation

Asian Journal of Engineering and Applied Technology, Nov 5, 2018

Interfacial polycondensation (IP) is one of the most important step polymerization technique used... more Interfacial polycondensation (IP) is one of the most important step polymerization technique used for synthesis of polyurea microcapsules. IP reaction between diamine and diisocyanate monomers which are soluble in aqueous phase and organic phase respectively is very fast therefore the overall process of polyurea synthesis via interfacial polycondensation, by and large, mass transfer controlled reaction. Selection of proper organic solvent is one of the important parameter for IP reactions. The objective of this experimental work was to study the effect of n-Octane and Cyclohexane as an organic solvent on kinetics of polyurea microcapsules synthesized by interfacial polycondensation reaction. In this reaction system IP reaction occurs on organic side of the interface so reaction rate increased with increase in relative polarity of organic solvent. Characterization of polyurea was carried out by XRD and DSC which demonstrated that semi crystalline polyurea microcapsules with good thermal stability were synthesized.

In microencapsulation, the external coating material is considered a shell that protects the internal core material, the active ingredient [16]. Interfacial polycondensation is one of the most widely used chemical processes for microencapsulation of agrochemicals as active ingredients for effective release to the target [17,18]. Controlled release of insecticide formulations via microencapsulation offer multiple advantages: (a) reduction of toxic effects, (b) enhancement of the duration of activity for an equal level of insecticide, (c) overall reduction in total consumption of insecticide, (d) reduction in evaporative losses, and (e) protection of/from the external environment, and increase in use and handling convenience [5,18-21].

Research paper thumbnail of Tofacitinib in Combination With Methotrexate in Patients With Rheumatoid Arthritis: Clinical Efficacy, Radiographic, and Safety Outcomes From a Twenty‐Four–Month, Phase III Study

Tofacitinib is an oral JAK inhibitor for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The phase III, 24-month, placebo-controlled Oral Rheumatoid Arthritis (ORAL) Scan trial was undertaken to evaluate the efficacy, including inhibition of structural progression, and safety of tofacitinib in patients with active RA and an inadequate response to methotrexate (MTX). Month 24 data from the completed study are reported here. Methods. Patients were randomized 4:4:1:1 to receive tofacitinib 5 mg or 10 mg twice daily, or placebo, switched to tofacitinib 5 mg or 10 mg twice daily, with stable background MTX. Patients receiving placebo switched to tofacitinib at month 3 (nonresponders) or month 6 (remaining patients). Clinical efficacy, structural progression, and treatment-emergent adverse events were evaluated. Analyses were performed on the full analysis set with observed data or nonresponder imputation with no advancement penalty for clinical efficacy, and imputation by linear extrapolation for structural progression. Results. Overall, 797 patients were treated; 539 (67.6%) completed 24 months of treatment. Responses according to the American College of Rheumatology criteria for 20% improvement (ACR20), ACR50, and ACR70; the proportion of patients in whom remission or low disease activity was achieved according to the 4-variable Disease Activity Score in 28 joints using the erythrocyte sedimentation rate, Clinical Disease Activity Index, or Simplified Disease Activity Index; Boolean remission; and Health Assessment Questionnaire disability index scores were maintained from month 12 to 24 and were similar between tofacitinib dosages. Limited structural damage was observed at months 12 and 24. Safety events were similar in type and frequency for both tofacitinib dosages, and were consistent with those previously reported. Conclusion. Our findings indicate that clinical and radiographic treatment effects are sustained in months 12-24 in patients with RA receiving tofacitinib 5 mg or 10 mg twice daily plus MTX. The safety profile is consistent with that of other tofacitinib studies. ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT00847613.

It cannot be melted nor can it be dissolved in any solvent owing to its complex structure and cross-linking. Presently it is incinerated or burned in cement industry. But its burning creates hazardous pollutants. This study focuses on utilizing the strength and durability of the two raw materials involved to form a Polyester Rubber Composite (PRC) with improved stability and process ability. A detailed chemical and mechanical analysis of PRC has been done, which indicates compatibility of the two polymers and enhancement in the hardness of the rubber by around 20-45 units. The PRC has been subjected to compression molding to fabricate commercial products like Bush and gaskets, which exhibit significant enhancement in chemical, processing and physical properties. A brief economic analysis of PRC gasket and virgin butyl rubber gasket shows a reduced cost margin of approx. 7.00% ...
