In this paper, a mode of water transport/vehicle is suggested. The idea is to use Solar Panel to harness the solar energy which is then fed to an Electrolyzer. The electrolyzer is fed with 2 inputs, water, and power. The water is split into Hydrogen and Oxygen by a process called Electrolysis. The hydrogen then becomes the input/fuel for a Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC). PEMFC converts Hydrogen and Oxygen (present in Air) to power, which is supplied to a motor to run the propeller. The above idea has been simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK.

2020 IEEE First International Conference on Smart Technologies for Power, Energy and Control (STPEC)

For a k-level multi-level inverter (MLI), several modulation techniques have been introduced in r... more For a k-level multi-level inverter (MLI), several modulation techniques have been introduced in recent years. Multiple carrier sinusoidal pulse width modulation (PWM) techniques are most popularly used due to its simplicity and effectiveness in minimizing the harmonic distortion in the output waveforms. Multiple carrier PWM is classified in level shifted PWM (LSPWM) and phase shifted PWM, out of which LSPWM delivers better harmonic profile. But LSPWM has the problem of uneven heat distribution, which limits its outreach in applications of high power. To solve the problem carrier rotation strategy is used in which carrier is rotated so that each switch conducts for equal durations. In this paper, carrier has been rotated at different rotation frequencies for five level, seven level and nine level cascaded H-bridge MLI and comparative THD analysis is performed. A new carrier rotation method has been proposed in which carrier is rotated at a rotation frequency three times the frequency of reference signal. Also, two algorithms are presented to calculate the periods of device conduction in new carrier rotation method. To showcase the improved performance, parameters of proposed carrier rotation method and phase disposition PWM (no rotation) are compared.

Research paper thumbnail of A robust optimization model under uncertain environment: An application in production planning

Computers & Industrial Engineering, 2021

Abstract An intuitive way to handle optimization problems with data affected by the uncertainty s... more Abstract An intuitive way to handle optimization problems with data affected by the uncertainty set is to undergo a robust optimization problem where the solution must be satisfied for any possible realization of the data in the uncertainty set. In this work, we addressed an uncertain linear programming problem in which some constraints involves the product of two uncertain parameters that are robust in nature. Hereafter, we discuss the max-min regret approach and subsequently with the help of Lagrangian duality, establish an equivalent approximation of the robust counterpart of such types of uncertain programming problems. Further, for the application purpose, we propose a multi-objective, multi-product production planning model of a captive repair shop for overhauling and repairing products or machines which indicates the relevance of the theoretical performance.

A finite interval boundary value problem is generated by using the necessary conditions of optimality and applying the Pontryagin’s Minimum Principle. Validation of the solver is performed using comparisons with a collocation-based boundary value problem solver, MATLAB’s bvp4c. The results demonstrate how simple initial guess to the boundary value problem can be used to produce high quality solutions. The accuracy of the solutions can be increased by increasing the order of solution at the cost of computational resources.

However, like other security algorithms, performance of physical layer key generation depends on randomness attained by generated keys. In this paper, different types of random tests like Frequency test, Serial test, Entropy test etc. are described and suitability of NIST statistical test suite for physical layer key generation is discussed. Furthermore, various applications of randomness are also briefly described. Since secrecy of key is crucial for wireless communication, a simulation model is developed for physical layer key generation and randomness of generated key is tested using NIST test suite. A set of arbitrary keys is also evaluated for randomness using NIST test. It is found that key generated using developed model is more random as compared to that of set of arbitrary keys. Therefore, this study suggests physical layer key generation as good candidature for a...

Research paper thumbnail of Competitive Electrohydrodynamic and Electrosolutal Advection Arrests Evaporation Kinetics of Droplets

Langmuir, 2020

The present article reports the hitherto unreported phenomenon of arrested evaporation dynamics i... more The present article reports the hitherto unreported phenomenon of arrested evaporation dynamics in pendent droplets in an electric field ambience. The evaporation kinetics of pendant droplets of electrically conducting saline solutions in the presence of a transverse, alternating electric field is investigated experimentally. It has been observed that while increase of field strength arrests the evaporation, increment in field frequency has the opposite effect. The same 2 has been explained on the solvation kinetics of the ions in the polar water. Theoretical analysis reveals that change in surface tension and diffusion driven evaporation model cannot predict the arrested or decelerated evaporation. With the aid of Particle Image Velocimetry, suppression of internal circulation velocity within the droplet is observed under electric field stimulus, and this affects the evaporation rate directly. A mathematical scaling model is proposed to quantify the effects of electrohydrodynamic circulation, electro-thermal and electro-solutal advection on the evaporation kinetics of the droplet. The analysis encompasses major governing parameters, viz. the thermal and solutal Marangoni numbers, the Electrohydrodynamic number, the electro-Prandtl and electro-Schmidt numbers and their respective contributions. It has been shown that the electro-thermal Marangoni effect is supressed by the electric field, leading to deteriorated evaporation rates. Additionally, the electro-solutal Marangoni effect further supresses the internal advection, which again arrests the evaporation rate by a larger proportion. Stability analysis reveals that the electric body force retards the stable internal circulation within such droplets and arrests advection. The stability mapping also illustrates that if the field strength is high enough for the electro-solutal advection to overshadow the solutal Marangoni effect completely, it can lead to improvement in evaporation rates. The present findings on the competitive electrohydrodynamic and electro-solutal behavior within pendant droplets may find strong implications in microscale flows involving aspects such as droplet electrokinetics, dielectrophoresis, and electrostriction and so on.

Rice (var. Shasharang) was raised as test crop with six treatments viz., control (T1), fresh Azolla incorporation @ 1.6 t ha-1 (T2), 30 kg N ha-1 through urea (T3), 60 kg N (T4), 30 kg N ha-1 + Azolla 1.6 t ha-1 (T5) and 60 kg N ha-1 + Azolla 1.6 t ha-1 (T6) in randomized block design with four replications. The experimental soil was sandy clay loam in texture having pH 5.1, bulk density 1.36 Mg m-3 and organic carbon 17.5 g kg-1. The highest soil pH was observed in T2 and increased significantly in treatments receiving both Azolla and mineral N-fertilizer (T2, T5 and T6) compared to their sole applications (T1, T3 and T4). The exchangeable calcium and magnesium (c mol (p +) kg-1), CEC (c mol (p +) kg-1) and base saturation percentage also showed the same trends and the highest values were observed as 1.92, 7.90 and 24.30 in T2. However, in contrast to this, the lowest values of exchangeable aluminum, exchangeable acidity and acidity saturation percentage were observed in T2 indicating that the sole application of Azolla improved soil acidity indices. The soil available P and K contents were recorded higher in the treatments with Azolla integrated with mineral fertilizer (T2, T5 and T6) as compared to the sole application of urea (T3 and T4) or control (T1) at different crop growth stages and at maturity. Available phosphorus in T6 was statistically significant over T4 whereas T5 was significant over T3 with respect to advancement in crop age. The organic carbon data followed the same trends.

Learning to use these applications can be difficult for old, differently abled, or relatively new users of the smartphones. The customer service associates cannot guide them if they don't have visibility into users' interactions with their phones at runtime. Software developers need such clarity while debugging the applications to understand what inputs users are providing. In this paper, we present an approach using static analysis and code synthesis to capture the users' interactions with their smartphone applications. We propose a middleware, in terms of a library, to add record and control capabilities to the applications. We implement it as an Android library, which can be integrated in an automated manner with any Android application. While there exist solutions that grant a complete control of the smartphone to a remote person, our solution finds a middle ground as to not violate user's privacy and yet provide effective remote interactions. Our middleware is generic enough to support Android devices across all dimensions, resolutions and orientations, yet capable enough to support a versatile set of complex GUI gestures while preserving users' privacy. To evaluate our solution for its efficiency in terms of ease of use, resources and user-friendliness, we added it to Plaid, a popular open-source Android application. The results show that our solution changed only 0.34% of the LOC of the original source code. We compare the efficiency of our solution with that of TeamViewer using TeamViewer Remote Control and QuickSupport. As compared to QuickSupport, our solution uses 10 times less RAM, 15 times less network, 3 times less CPU, and less than half power. We evaluate the user experience of our solution by a survey which shows that none of the participants felt the UI interference or lag to be excessive.

Under reamed piles are deep in-situ concrete piles with one or more enlargements in their stems. The enlargement is called bulb and increases the strength and stability of these piles. The goal of this study was comparing the performance of fir pile and conventional under reamed piles of the same diameter and length in sand. For this purpose, load test is done and the results were compared. Analysis and calculation results showed that fir piles had better performance than the conventional under reamed piles, and had higher ultimate tensile and compressive bearing capacity and lower displacements. Moreover, under reamed piles had higher ultimate tensile bearing capacity and lower uplift in comparison to conventional piles of the same length and different volume.
