A shorter turnaround time could improve the punctuality of the departing KLM narrow-and wide bodies at AAS, making both KLM and AAS more attractive for passengers as airline-airport combination. This research is focused to define infrastructural and operational design specifications of turnaround ground handling processes to reduce the turnaround times of narrowand wide bodies, for the Boeing 737-800 and the Boeing 747-400 Combi aircraft. The research gives input to the design of the future airport from a turnaround ground handling perspective. The research method applied to this research is the Theory of Constraints followed by a case study on Arlanda Airport in Sweden towards the automation of turnaround ground handling processes. A Group Decision Room brainstorm session was held to identify all involved processes and to generate suggestions for improving the turnaround ground handling processes.

The micro-social level is made up of dyadic information relationships between the Design Engineer of buyer firms and the Sales Engineer of supplier firms. The case study explores the information relationship through the lens of three theoretical perspectives, namely: early supplier involvement in product development, knowledge management, and the concepts of social embeddedness and tie strengths belonging to economic sociology. The paper describes the concept of supplier's Sales Engineer as a knowledge worker, and explains how the concept represents a specific type of supplier involvement in early product development. By using the preliminary findings of four case studies, the paper shows how the concept of the Sales Engineer as a knowledge worker has been understood and applied in practice The paper concludes with managerial implications regarding the conditions that need to be in place in order to make the knowledge transfer through the Sales Engineer robust and dependable.

To prevent future public health disruptions, the civil aviation industry is gaining interest in becoming more “resilient” but rarely elaborates on its meaning, hampering decision-making and strategy development. When looking into the academic literature it seems that a proliferation of resilience-related concepts occurred. Although enriching resilience, it also dilutes its meaning and reduces its use for practice. This paper aims to create concept clarity regarding resilience by proposing a categorization of resilience. Based upon a scoping review, this categorization dissects resilience into four reoccurring aspects: fragility, robustness, adaptation, and transformation. This categorization is expected to support sensemaking in disruptive times while assisting decision-making and strategy development on resilience. When applying this categorization in the civil aviat...

Inhoud : 1. To adapt to this new reality the automotive industry must reframe its design processes, structure and culture. As researchers and educators, grooming the next generation of future proof automobility designers, we must be at the forefront of this paradigm change. We must embrace its complexity and adapt a similar holistic approach, evoking cross-fertilization in research and education between departments, faculties and industry partners. To facilitate this at our university, a virtual laboratory is set-up to establish continuous and coherent interdisciplinary research on the long-term future of human mobility. This user driven platform actively evokes true cross fertilisation between all involved parties. The underlying mechanism for this virtual laboratory is a three-dimensional framework, representing the holistic space in which all research, desig...

Sametimes it is easy to understand why: the employee might fear losing his or her job, notwant to learn new skills or notlook forward to join a new team. On most other occasions employee resistance is more difficult to understand. This chapter deals with the effects of individual behaviour on strategie change processes and how change leaders can anticipate or react to this. The impartanee of individual behaviour in such processes was already briefly mentioned in Chapter 2. Individual purchasers or buyers can play an active role in realizing change, a passive role or even actively resist change. The latter will be even more strongly demonstrated in Chapter 11 and- tosome extent- in Chapter 12. A better understanding of possible individual reactions to a change initiative, and the underlying reasons, may help the change leader to better manage the process. The purpose of this chapter is therefore to explore the effect of individual behaviour on the process of strategie change and to derive some lessans for rnanaging individual behaviour. The different concepts that are introduced in this chapter will be illustrated by the TradeRanger case. This case describes how a number of companies in the oii and chemieals industry developed and implemented an e-procurement tool.
