The essential oil and infusion of Salvia officinalis leaves have been widely applied in tradition... more The essential oil and infusion of Salvia officinalis leaves have been widely applied in traditional medicine since ancient times and nowadays subjected to extensive research of their antibacterial, antiviral and cytotoxic properties. This paper shows chemical composition data of S. officinalis leaves essential oil isolated by steam distillation using a Clevenger-type apparatus. Also, the paper presents the chemical content of volatile and semi-volatile compounds of S. officinalis leaves infusion. The volatile and semi-volatile compounds of S. officinalis leaves infusion were isolated by solid-phase extraction (SPE) and liquid-liquid extraction with hexane and dichloromethane. SPE was carried out on 500 mg octadecylsilane (C18) cartridges and elution with dichloromethane. Liquid-liquid extraction was performed with hexane and dichloromethane. The essential oil in dichloromethane and infusion extracts in hexane and dichloromethane were analyzed by gas chromatography coupled with mass ...

For the isolation of guajazulene from the very complex matrix of the hydroalcoholic extract of Matricaria chamomilla a selective liquid-solid extraction on a C 1 8 reversed phase cartridge was performed. Acceptable values for average recovery, standard deviation and variation coefficient were obtained.

The Kováts retention indices of all 93 acyclic octenes on polydimethylsiloxane and squalane as st... more The Kováts retention indices of all 93 acyclic octenes on polydimethylsiloxane and squalane as stationary phases as well as their mass spectra were measured. The means of gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) were used for confirmation of GC identification as well as for mass spectrometric deconvolution of the majority of gas chromatographic unseparated isomeric octene peaks. The distinction between corresponding E and Z acyclic octenes, that is either difficult or even impossible by means of GC-MS, was obtained on the basis of larger temperature coefficients of retention indices for Z isomeric octenes than for corresponding E isomers. The retention data expressed as homomorphy factors were correlated with the degree of branching, position of double bond, and position of alkyl group with respect to the double bond of acyclic octenes, and the structure-retention relationships were formulated. The 81 acyclic octenes were identified in FCC gasoline.

A specific and sensitive methodology for the quantitative determination of hydroxysteroids dehydr... more A specific and sensitive methodology for the quantitative determination of hydroxysteroids dehydroepiandrosterone and pregnenolone and their main metabolites in human plasma is described. Hydroxysteroids were extracted using methanol and steroids were further separated by reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, allowing for minimization of the possible chromatographic interferences. Eluted fractions were collected, pooled, and analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry as trimethylsilyl ether derivatives. The quantification was performed with single-ion monitoring of the highly abundant m=z 129 or m=z 358 fragments. The combination of the chromatographic characteristics to the specific fragments ensured the selectivity and specificity of the method. Under these conditions the method was linear (typical R 2 is superior to 0.98 for all hydroxysteroids studied) over the concentration range of 2 Â 10 À9 to 10 À6 M with good precision and accuracy.
