Inspiration will also influence the mathematical identity of PMTs’ when they become professional mathematics teachers. A mathematics teacher educator (MTE) can be a source of inspiration for PMTs; hence, a study must identify and explain why an MTE is considered inspiring. This study attempts to develop the theory of inspiring MTEs profiles based on the experience of PMTs. This study included 21 students and 7 lecturers of the Mathematics Education Department in a public university in Indonesia. This qualitative research was conducted employing a grounded theory constructivist approach. The findings revealed that inspiring MTEs possessed the following characteristics: “creating a sense of comfort, being knowledgeable, being motivating, providing fun and enjoyable learning, imparting new insights and comprehension, and being disciplined and authoritative.”...

The type of this study was a classroom action research that took two cycles. Data collection was done through tests and observations. The results of the research in the Cycle 1 showed that the average value of observation of the research activity was 2.9 with good category, and the percentage of student learning activity was 57% with less active category. The average value of problem solving ability is 4.87 with very low category. The results of the research in Cycle 2 showed the average value of observation 3.65 with very good category. Percentage of student learning activity was 79% with active category. The average problem solving ability of student math was 8.38 with high ability category. The ...

The approach of this research is a classroom action research. Subjects in this study were students of class X-6 of SMA (Tenth Year Senior High School) Negeri 1 Pagaran totaling 30 students. The result of data analysis after giving of action in cycle 1, it was obtained 70% classical completeness; m edium problem solving ability category. In the second cycle obtained 90% classical completeness. The category of problem solving ability is very high . Based on the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that the problem-based learning model can improve mathematics problem solving ability.

Qualified learning materials can be obtained through development research. Learning materials in this study were learning materials that were developed based on guided discovery learning model. The learning materials was also developed by integrating local culture into a guided learning model. The local culture in this study was adapted to the local culture of the students, namely the Batak Toba. Learning materials in this study were developed using the development model of Thiagarajan et al. (1974). The result of second trial showed that learning materials based guided discovery learning with Batak Toba context improved students' mathematical problem solving ability and self-efficacy significantly. Based on the results of the study, it was suggested that mathematics teachers make an effort qualified learning materials and integrate local culture in mathematics learning.

Meanwhile, in secondary and undergraduate education, existing research reports that students’ combinatorial thinking ability tend to be low. Efforts to improve students’ combinatorial thinking ability in one of the Vocational Schools in Medan, Indonesia, are carried out through the development of the Numbered Heads Together (NHT). NHT is one cooperative learning structure. The result showed that NHT learning improved students’ combinatorial thinking ability.
