Research paper thumbnail of The Relationship between Corporate Governance and Voluntary Disclosure: The Role of Boards of Directors and Audit Committees

Universal Journal of Accounting and Finance, 2021

The objective of the present research is to examine the relationship between corporate governance... more The objective of the present research is to examine the relationship between corporate governance and voluntary disclosure, and to determine how certain factors enhance governance practices and consequently increase voluntary disclosure. The study considers the content analysis of 22 Saudi listed companies from 2015 to 2019. A comprehensive index is developed, with a checklist covering 30 items to extract and measure corporate governance practices and levels of voluntary disclosure. The researchers use ordinary least squares (OLS) regression to examine whether corporate governance-specific mechanisms can explain any differences in voluntary disclosure levels among the listed companies. The results indicate a statistically significant relationship between the number of non-executive directors and board size and the level of voluntary disclosure. This study concluded that non-executive directors and board size are ranked the highest in terms of their positive effects on voluntary disclosure. The relationship between the independent directors and audit committees and voluntary disclosure is insignificant. The results suggest that the high number of non-executive directors and the increase in the number of directors on the boards lead to greater voluntary disclosure of information. This study helps regulators of corporate governance and company directors understand the factors affecting voluntary disclosure. Corporate governance regulators should require an increase in the minimum number of boards and non-executive directors for listed companies in order to gain the desired levels of voluntary disclosure and transparency. Saudi listed companies are advised to willingly increase their board members to the maximum number specified by regulation. This study has some limitations as participants represented a small sample; hence, the results cannot be generalised. Furthermore, the voluntary disclosure data were collected only from annual reports; sources such as websites, public announcements and press releases, were not taken into account, but would have provided many relevant details.

However, no studies have been conducted examining nursing students' religiosity and use of spiritual coping and its impact on their QOL. This cross-sectional, descriptive study measured the QOL and examined the predictive roles of religiosity and spiritual coping among nursing students from four countries. Nursing students reported high overall QOL and health. Significant differences were revealed on the religiosity and spiritual coping of students in terms of demographic characteristics. Findings show frequent attendance to organized and non-organized religious activities lead to better physical and environmental domains, and using non-organized religious activities frequently lead to improved psychological health. More frequent use of non-religious coping strategies was associated with better physical, psychological, and environmental health, and improved social relationships.

Nurses in Kenya have mostly used the psychosocial-medical model to nurse HIV infected patients which fails to answer many of the nursing concerns and reduces their autonomy in carrying out nursing care. Newman's theory proposed that: Health is not lack of illness, or a process to become healthy from being ill, but it instead the expansion of consciousness as a result of choices made within the context of patterns of behavior. Methodology: This mini review was an evolving emergent design. Slightly adapted 'Advanced Theory in Nursing' coursework materials were used. The greatest resource were referrals to links and hints as offered by those who got interested in the study. A best case scenario is appended. Conclusion: Newman's Theory of Health as Expanding Consciousness is therefore a generic tool applicable to guide psychosocial nursing care of clients infected with HIV. It would be a great resource with a potential to evidence based nursing care. It would provide a basis for several case studies. Nurses find more fulfilment in their work by utilizing a nursing theory.

Students had what they referred to as favorite applications (apps) on social media where both personal and private issues as well as public debate and discourse were freely exchanged. Objective: The aim of this paper was to examine knowledge of staff nurses on management of deconditioning in older adults, in Baguio-Benguet area in the Philippines. Methods: The study made use of cross-sectional design. Sampling technique used was total enumeration, where 130 out of 135 nurses met the inclusion criteria. A 65 item questionnaire was used in gathering data. Data was subjected to statistical treatment where T-test and F-test were used accordingly. Results: Number of years of nursing experience tends to deteriorate the staff nurses' knowledge on deconditioning management. Hospital affiliation is a significant factor that affects the knowledge of staff nurses on deconditioning management. Continuing education improves the knowledge of staff nurses on deconditioning management. Conclusion: Study suggests that it is important to establish gerontology continuing education programs with a core component on deconditioning treatment and prevention to enhance nurses' knowledge on management of deconditioning so as to improve the care provided to older adults.
