Primary data for this study was raised via content analysis and discussed with the input of literature survey. The appositeness of content analysis as the deployed research method is ingrained in the fact that it can be used to quantitatively measure the manifest content of the media. Out of a plethora of national daily newspapers in the country, the purposive sampling technique was applied in choosing the two newspapers that were studied. Analyses and findings indicated that the perceived negative portrayal of the Third World by the Western Press is real with a caveat: the Third World's media (in this instant case, the Nigerian press) is as culpable as its western counterpart on the alleged perception of negative portrayals. This is because about 84% of the fifty four editions of the newspapers whose major front page headlines/news focus (a critical element in the agenda setting function of the mass media) were content analyzed dwelt on negative directional focus.

In general, SHGs can be objectified as a spontaneous civil initiative leading to formation of collective activities through fostering solidarity to tackle any types of life challenges, such as poverty, gender-inequality, discrimination, and any type of marginalization. Also, different groups have different shared objectives; peersupport on medical conditions or both physical and mental disabilities, alcoholic addiction, and environmental issues shared among local community, just to name a few. This research elucidates how different academic disciplines separately analyze SHGs without enough inter-reference and problematizes a fragmentation of SHGs research caused by a lack of interdisciplinary approach, ending in failure of constructive studies. In conclusion, the author reveals a possible framework to grasp the whole picture of SHGs.

Reviewing four articles published on digital health technology-related issues, it is found that media, particularly social media which complement conventional media, tend to be influential in the aspect of digital health. The social communication devices such as mobile phones and tablets PCs enable social networks to promote healthcare through platforms for interaction. Similarly, mobile applications help in offering other medical services. The conventional media hence appear to be useful mainly in creating awareness about such developments. This trend however, is found to be of implication to Africa, particularly Nigeria where the level of development in technology is still low and conventional media coverage of digital health technology appears to be a new ground. Thus, this article recommends to journalists and social med...

The paucity of specific laws and policies to address domestic violence against women in Nigeria i... more The paucity of specific laws and policies to address domestic violence against women in Nigeria is palpable. The issue is further complicated by the inadequacy of the penal codes that have been used in most cases to substitute for the apparent lapses. Some states in the country have risen to the occasion of addressing this issue. Amongst such states is the metropolitan Lagos state who enacted a law on domestic violence and backed it up with a policy that focuses on the effect of domestic violence on children. In addition, the State has set up an agency that caters to the needs of the victims of domestic violence that report occurrence(s). While this is a laudable step by the Lagos government, this study revealed that the level of awareness is still incredibly low. Second, a substantial number of respondents still hold the cultural inclination to reporting incidences of domestic violence to their spiritual leaders more than not to report the same to the agency. Therefore, we call the Lagos Government to consider a policy review to make it more encompassing than focusing on the children. Second, we advocate for more stakeholders' engagement in the event of such consideration.

The study's objectives were to investigate First Bank Nigeria's social media advertising trends and determine the benefits and drawbacks of using social media advertising. The study used a quantitative and qualitative research design that was based on the diffusion of innovation theory. The study's quantitative component focused on descriptive and inferential analyses of the bank's social media platforms, as well as answers from respondents (bank employees and customers), while the qualitative component focused on a textual analysis of the social media advertisements. First Bank used a number of internet advertising resources, according to the report (social media inclusive). The findings suggest that social media is simple to use and understand, that it attracts customers' attention to products and services, that it provides an instant feedback mechanism, and that it helps the bank save money. Social media has a broad reach, ensures audience target efficiency, and delivers fun. The strength of social media bank adverts is that they encourage practitioners to work more efficiently by providing rapid feedback, having a broad reach, and being simple to use. The issues of trust management, control, technical knowledge, identity management, unrestricted audience, irreversible information, and crisis communications, on the other hand, are challenging for bank social media usage. On the subject of social media issues, banks advertisers are expected to be aware of the areas that may be addressed, such as preventing unethical and anonymous individuals from accessing their platform. Furthermore, only reputable and trustworthy material should be allowed on social media.

Does that mean that elections do not seem to be important among the youth? Thus, this study evaluates youth perception of voting's importance during elections during the 2018 Ekiti gubernatorial elections. The study sampled the opinion of 1369 youth from 18 to 35 years across the three senatorial districts of the state. Findings show that an overwhelming majority (78.1%) of the respondents see the 2018 Ekiti governorship election as important. This shows that the youth are very interested in the coming Election as 69.7% agreed they would vote during the 2018 Ekiti governorship election. The youths (83.3%) know that their vote matters, even as they agreed (74.8%) voting in Election is vital to Democracy. Its impact has increased immensely and investigators are obliged to agree on the degree and magnitude of the media influence in creating a peaceful election. The aim of this study was to evaluate the responsibility of media in creating a peaceful election, with reference to the 2018 pre and post-election violence in Sierra Leone. The specific objectives were to establish the media accessibility level and the various modes of media coverage; to establish the extent to which media advocated for peace or violence during the 2018 general elections in Sierra Leone. Extensive literatures were analyzed to explain media roles and to develop a foundation for the present research. The research adopted both qualitative and quantitative research methodology where a descriptive research design and random stratified sampling method with a sample size of 388 respondents was used. Primary data was obtained via questionnaires and in-depth interviews analyzed and presented in various forms. The study found out that media performed both conflict escalation and peaceful tasks during the 2018 general elections. Some of the negative media roles include encouraging hate speech, misrepresentation of information, and incitement. Some positive roles include conducting civic education, preaching peace, fair coverage of political rallies, and fair reporting of contentious matters during peace negotiations. The study recommends stringent measures for negative journalism while highlighting the merits of peace journalism.

This anxiety propels candidates or party members to resort to unethical practices such as violence in a bid to win elections because politics in Nigeria has become a zero-sum game. Candidates and political parties prepare for election with the mindset of winning by all cost, including engaging in pre-electoral, Election Day and post-election violence. Hence, the act of violence has been entrenched in Nigeria's political space, such that every election cycle both governments, non-governmental organizations and international community engage in progammes that promotes peaceful election. The study is aimed at examining electoral violence from Nigeria's First Republic to date and its human security implications on democratic advancement in Nigeria. The paper adopted the culture of violence theory as its theoretical construct. The content analysis was used in the interpretation of secondary data. The paper recommends amongst others to strengthen the electoral management board and enforce relevant laws on perpetrators of electoral violence.

It is a descriptive research that lays emphasis on survey method. Purposive sampling procedure has been employed to cover the area of study with data obtained from 386 married respondents. Findings reveal that relationship failure and divorce is high. The study identifies that the absence of positive and supportive communication, lack of close interpersonal communication, absence of interest, affection, gratitude and apologies communication, lack of dialogic communication and lack of communality of differences are causes of poor conflict resolution in relationships. The results of the two hypotheses tested reveal that there is a significant relationship between poor conflict resolution with relationship failure and divorce. Also, effective interpersonal communication is significantly related to conflict resolution. In conclusion, the inevitability of conflicts in any form of marriage has been established. Thus, the factors to determine effective conflict resolution among couples are; active use of communication to build a constructive relationship, acceptance and confirming partner's view, affirming and asserting yourself as a partner in a relationship, respect for diversity in relationship and reason rationally then adoption of constructive criticism; embracing dialogic communication, positive and supportive communication, interpersonal communication, and then upholding interest, affection, gratitude and apologies communication are means to amicably resolve conflict in an intimate relationship.
