The objective of the study was to use a simple method for estimation of resting salivary flow rate with the help of paper chromatography. Materials and Methods: Sample size consisted of 180 participants from whom saliva was collected to determine the flow rate using chromatography filter paper, which was further compared with the salivary flow rate per minute using spitting method. Analyse comprised of 3 spots encompassing starch and potassium iodide per spot on filter paper. Based on the color response on the chromatography filter paper the salivary flow rate was estimated. Results: Pearson's correlation test showed highly significant negative correlation when the salivary flow rate and the number of colored dots were compared. Conclusion: The method is accurate and can be of use in assessing the resting flow rate of saliva

A system is designed using group of sensors which monitors the different environmental condition in underground mines and if value exceeds from threshold value, then the Miners are informed through Alarm. Another module is wireless sensor network software, which is developed to trace and locate underground miners by sending the alert message to control stations. The paper shows that the system is flexible in the architecture of software and hardware, and can easily extended to other mine safety production fields.

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) or cumulative trauma disorders are disorders that affect the muscles, nerves, tendons, ligaments, cartilages, joints, and spinal discs. These are caused due to repetitive movements, excessive application of force, and incorrect posture and hence are the most common occupational hazard among the dental professionals. This review article is an overview of various articles and studies conducted that analyze the prevalence, risk factors, signs and symptoms of MSDs, and also describe ergonomic methods, procedures, and practices to prevent and palliate the symptoms of MSDs.

They often result from a known stimulus or injury such as dental plaque, calculus, or foreign material. Aims: The aim of this study was to review the clinicopathologic features of reactive hyperplastic lesions (RHLs) of the oral cavity at MIDSR, Dental College and Hospital, Latur, Maharashtra, and to compare these data with those of previously reported studies. Settings and Design: The patient case files from the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology from June 2010 to May 2016 were reviewed for cases of RHLs of the oral cavity. Subjects and Methods: Both clinical and histopathological diagnosis of reactive lesions was selected for the study. Data including the type of the lesion, age, gender, and the site involved were collected. Statistical Analysis Used: Descriptive statistics was applied to the data and differences in frequencies among groups were evaluated using SPSS (IBM Corporation) software. Results: A total of 155 histologically diagnosed cases of RHLs were obtained with a prevalence of 11.7%. The data consist of 56 (36.1%) males and 99 (63.9%) females. The most common lesion clinically was traumatic fibroma (36.5%) and histologically fibrous hyperplasia (37.4%). The reactive lesions clinically presented as either sessile (51%) or pedunculated (49%) lesions. Conclusions: The clinical features of reactive hyperplasia among our patients were similar to those reported previously with divergence in some analyzed data. The novelty in our study was the correlation between histopathology and clinical features which were not reported in literature till date.

Puberty, menstruation, use of oral contraceptives, pregnancy, and menopause influence the periodontal health in women. Aim: This study was conducted to assess the awareness of oral health changes during menstruation in adolescent girls. Materials and Methods: A self-administered cross-sectional survey was conducted at a node in Navi Mumbai to assess the awareness of adolescent school-going girls on the subject of menstruation and the oral changes associated with the same. Results: Majority of the participants were aware of menstruation and associated problems, but only 4% of participants were aware that oral health changes can occur during menstruation. Conclusion: There is a definite lacuna in the awareness of adolescents about menstruation and the oral health changes associated with the same, and creating awareness on this association is necessary to prevent periodontal disease in adulthood.

Materials and Methods: A total of 1764 children of 6-14 years age group, studying in different primary and high schools of the coastal areas were examined using World Health Organization criteria (1997) to record the prevalence of dental caries. The treatment needs were also calculated according to that given criteria. Statistical Analysis: The results were subjected to statistical analysis using the Chi-square test and unpaired 't' test. Results: Dental caries were founded low in the studied population. The overall all caries prevalence in the permanent dentition was 28.06%, in boys it was 25.39% and in girls it was 30.86%. Therefore caries prevalence in female was higher and which was statistically highly significant (P < 0.05). The most frequently required treatment was one surface filling followed by other treatments irrespective of sex and age group. Discussion: The presence of sea foods containing high fluoride and least availability of refined carbohydrate in the diet may be the reason of lower prevalence. Conclusion: child oral health is always a matter of concern for a developing country so further research is required to explore actual causes.

Police personnel were randomly selected from the 296 police staff working in Virajpet, India. A self-administered questionnaire was used to collect information on their demographics and dental visit behavior, and to determine their OHRQoL. The community periodontal index (CPI) and loss of attachment were used to assess periodontal status. All 72 invited participants joined this study. The majority (n = 133) had good OHRQoL. For those with a good OHRQoL, 74 had CPI = 0, 25 had CPI = 1, 20 had CPI = 2, and 14 had CPI ≥ 3. For those who had an average or poor OHRQoL (n = 37), 19 had CPI = 0, one had CPI = 1, eight had CPI = 2, and nine had CPI ≥ 3. There was a statistically-significant association between OHRQoL and CPI (P &amp;lt; 0.003). Most participants with good OHRQoL (127/133), but only less than half with an average or poor OHRQoL (22/37), had no loss of periodontal attachment (P &amp;lt; 0.0001). In the present study, there was an association between OHRQoL and periodontal status among police personnel in Virajpet, Coorg.
