Research paper thumbnail of Herbal Approach for Diabetic Cure and Futuristic Dimension

Current Drug Research Reviews

Diabetes mellitus is identified as a heterogeneous pathological condition that is marked by extreme hyperglycemic (glucose) levels caused by reduced insulin sensitivity. Synthetic antidiabetic medications are widely commercialized but have slowly expressed several inevitable side effects and limitations in treated diabetic subjects. Researchers have been exploring herbal medicine due to its esteemed therapeutic effects. WHO have enlisted almost 21,000 herbal components that have established therapeutic benefit. Several herbs, most of them widely available, have been studied to extract their active phytoconstituents that have effective diabetes management potential with the least risk factor for side effects and acute toxicity. Though acceptable standardization, awareness, and clinical trials are yet to be established before mainstreaming herbal formulation, preclinical studies have confirmed the higher safety and efficacy of several extracted phytoconstituents and formulation in comparative analysis with synthetic products. The authors have also discussed their opinions with regard to the vast usability of herbal components along with the multi-target functionality of several phytoconstituents, as well as the challenges faced for standardizing, formulating, and marketing herbal medicines. Other than this, several cases of clinical trials showing effectivity of herbal antidiabetic aid are mentioned. In this review, an attempt has been made to summarize the potential antidiabetic herbs, marketed herbal formulations, and patented formulations that have established therapeutic prospects to downregulate diabetic conditions.

"The involvement of a child in sexual behavior that he or she does not completely grasp and is unable to provide informed permission to, or for which the kid is not developmentally equipped, or else that violates the laws or social taboos of society," according to the World Health Organization (WHO). The present study was aiming towards the perception of CSA among young adults. Methods: A cross sectional survey design was used for this research study. For data collection, an online tool was prepared. The data collection tool was constructed into two sections, first section deals with demographic data like age, gender, occupation, etc. whereas the second section were having Likert scale. Tool was shared to potential participants via online social media applications. After screening, total 1000 samples were selected for this study. Results: This study reported that m...

The present study describes the length-weight relationship of the fish collected from Dora Beel. A total of 94 specimens were investigated in the study. The fishes were separated into male and female to calculate length-weight relationship of each individual of the species. The growth performance in both male & female are found high since the correlation coefficient 'r' exhibits high degree of correlation between the length-weight relationships. The correlation coefficient 'r' in Macrognathus aral is closer to 1.0. The length-weight relationship showed a positive allometric growth in both sexes of this species.

Research paper thumbnail of Pattern-Directed Phase Transitions and VOC Sensing of Liquid Crystal Films

Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2020

Solvent vapor exposure could transform a crystalline or smectic liquid crystal (LC) film into nem... more Solvent vapor exposure could transform a crystalline or smectic liquid crystal (LC) film into nematic and isotropic phases under ambient conditions. The average time for such phase transitions is found to linearly reduce with an increase in vapor pressure and reduction in the molecular weight of solvents. Such responses of solvent vapor-annealed phase transitions of a nanoparticle-loaded LC droplet were then converted into an electrical signal, wherein the electrical resistance reduced (increased) with time upon destruction (restoration) of the orientational order of the LC matrix. Variation in the electrical response was used to identify the volatile organic vapors, phase transition of LCs, rate of diffusion−absorption of solvent into LCs, and rate of desorption−evaporation of solvent from LCs. Pattern-directed phase transitions on physically heterogeneous surfaces showed a faster (slower) kinetics on thinner (thicker) patterns. However, for chemically heterogeneous surfaces, weaker (stronger) anchoring of LCs on hydrophobic (hydrophilic) patches ensured a faster (slower) transition.

Research paper thumbnail of Pattern-Directed Ordering of Spin-Dewetted Liquid Crystal Micro- or Nanodroplets as Pixelated Light Reflectors and Locomotives

ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2017

Chemical pattern directed spin-dewetting of a macroscopic droplet composed of a dilute organic so... more Chemical pattern directed spin-dewetting of a macroscopic droplet composed of a dilute organic solution of liquid crystal (LC) formed an ordered array of micro and nanoscale LC droplets. Controlled evaporation of the spin-dewetted droplets through vacuum drying could further miniaturize the size to the level of ~90 nm. The size, periodicity, and spacing of these mesoscale droplets could be tuned with the variations in the initial loading of LC in the organic solution, the strength of the centripetal force on the droplet, and the duration of the evaporation. A simple theoretical model was developed to predict the spacing between the spin-dewetted droplets. The patterned LC droplets showed a reversible phase transition from nematic to isotropic and vice versa with the periodic exposure of a solvent vapor and its removal. A similar phase transition behavior was also observed with the periodic increase or reduction of temperature suggesting their usefulness as vapor or temperature sensors. Interestingly, when the spin-dewetted droplets were confined between a pair of electrodes and an external electric field was applied, the droplets situated at the hydrophobic patches showed light-reflecting properties under the polarization microscopy highlighting their importance in the development of micro or nanoscale LC displays. The digitized LC droplets, which were stationary otherwise, showed dielectrophoretic locomotion under the guidance of the external electric field beyond a threshold intensity of the field. Remarkably, the motion of these droplets could be restricted to the hydrophilic zones, which were confined between the hydrophobic patches of the chemically patterned surface. The findings could significantly contribute in the development of futuristic vapor or temperature sensors, light-reflectors, and self-propellers using the micro or nanoscale digitized LC droplets.
