The syndrome is a variety of clinical signs and symptoms caused by pathogens that can be acquired and transmitted through sexual activity. Around the world estimated about 376 million people become infected each year with one of four common curable STIs where about 86 million new cases of curable STIs occurred in the African region. The objective of this study to assess the magnitude and associated factors for Sexually transmitted infections in 2020 among Hawassa industrial park workers, Southern Ethiopia. The multistage sampling technique was used to select a total of 663 study participants. The data were entered into the Epi-Data version 4.4 and analyzed by SPSS version 21. Both bivariate and multivariable logistic regression analyses were employ P-values of <0.05 and AOR with 95%CI was used to determine the presence of association between covariates and dependent variable.. The Self-reported STI magnitude in the last 12 months was 18.7% (18.54-18.91) among the Hawassa industry park workers. Hometown residence [AOR=2.29; 95%CI: 1.34-3.92], drinking alcohol (AOR=3.26; 95%CI: 1.74-6.09), view/read pornography (AOR=4.38; 95%CI: 2.67-7.18) and poor knowledge (AOR=2.69; 95%CI: 1.65-4.420 were significantly associated with the magnitude of STIs. The Self-reported magnitude of STIs among Hawassa Industrial Park was found to be high.

Many current treatments are based on anecdotal reports or relatively small clinical trials in which the efficacy of the agents is questionable, reflecting the fact that none is specifically licensed for the management of painful diabetic neuropathy. Despite these limitations the authors provide a practical algorithm based on a number needed to treat analysis together with an assessment of drug safety. We advocate an improvement in overall glycaemic control together with a reduction in glucose flux, coupled with a stepwise approach starting with a tricyclic, followed by gabapentin, tramadol and carbamazepine. We do not recommend combination treatment.

We report three cases in which ketoacidosis was induced by genital herpes infection. There is good evidence that early treatment with systemic Acyclovir is effective in patients with a first attack of genital herpes. Therefore genital examination should be considered in patients with diabetic ketoacidosis particularly when there are symptoms of genital herpes. During episodes of recurrence, diabetic patients need to monitor their blood sugars more frequently and adjust insulin requirements accordingly. We believe that this is the first description of ketoacidosis being associated with this increasingly common and recurrent infection.

RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS—Data from 262 placebo-administered patients from two identical phase 3, randomized, double-blind trials were combined and analyzed. RESULTS—After 1 year, change in the neuropathy impairment score of lower limbs [NIS(LL)] (−0.63 points; P = 0.005), vibration detection threshold (VDT) (−0.42 just noticeable difference units; P = 0.003), and Neuropathy Total Symptom Score-6 (NTSS-6) questionnaire (−3.73 points; P < 0.001) improved, whereas some electrophysiology measures and heart rate deep breathing (HRDB) (−0.78 beats; P = 0.003) worsened compared with baseline values. There was a small but significant worsening of A1C (0.28%; P < 0.001), and a greater percentage of patients were using an...

One of the common pathogenetic factors is increased production of free oxygen radicals and their derivatives; a hyperglycaemic metabolism impairs endoneural blood perfusion, leading to neuronal cell damage as typical in diabetic neuropathy. The aim of pathogenetically oriented treatment is to slow down, stop, or reverse the progression of neuropathic damage, and clear indications show that benfotiamine and alpha-lipoic acid along with blood glucose optimization and risk factor management may have a positive effect on the processes involved in neuropathy. Benfotiamine inhibits pathways involved in developing neuropathy while stimulating pathways that play a role in improving neuropathy, such as the pentose-phosphate shunt. Alpha-lipoic acid - an effective antioxidant - may partly inhibit pathogenetic processes caused by oxidative stress. Both of these substances have been shown better tolerance profiles than drugs aimed at controlling symptoms, and should play a role in treating patients with diabetic neuropathy.

We have quantified small nerve fiber pathological changes using the technique of intraepidermal nerve fiber (IENF) assessment and the novel in vivo technique of corneal confocal microscopy (CCM). Fifty-four diabetic patients stratified for neuropathy, using neurological evaluation, neurophysiology, and quantitative sensory testing, and 15 control subjects were studied. They underwent a punch skin biopsy to quantify IENFs and CCM to quantify corneal nerve fibers. IENF density (IENFD), branch density, and branch length showed a progressive reduction with increasing severity of neuropathy, which was significant in patients with mild, moderate, and severe neuropathy. CCM also showed a progressive reduction in corneal nerve fiber density (CNFD) and branch density, but the latter w...
