In order to contribute to the achievement of this goal, we investigated the health and germination of cotton varieties used in west central region of Côte d’Ivoire. The cotton seed samples were collected from 10 farmers. Samples comprised 3 varieties which were grouped for laboratory and field analyses including Purity analysis, moisture content test, germination test and the seed borne mycoflora investigation. The result show maximum pure seed (95%) was found in cotton seed samples with a moisture content of 10 %. Cotton seeds of the 3 varieties had very low germination (<30%), highest number of dead seed (27% 95%) and abnormal seedlings (1 51 %) in the laboratory and in the experimental plot. Thereafter, seeds treatment with Thiram + Imidacloprid helped raise the germination rate to more ...

Very few studies based on the role of beneficial insects in pest management have been done. The study aims to knowthe effect of three pesticides on Cheilomenes sulphurea, in cotton plots. Hand capture of insect was conducted 24 hours before and 72 hours after each chemical spraying. Observations made before the first spraying showed the abundance of larvae (3.08 ± 1.83/30 plants) and adults (5.91 ± 2.6 /30 plants). Statistical analysis showed that there was no significant difference between the numbers of larvae (ddl = 11; F = 0.41 p = 0.75) and adults (ddl = 11; F = 0.13 p = 0.93). However, the number of larvae and adults of Cheilomenes sulphurea dropped considerably except in control plots after each spraying. All insecticides used were highly toxic on larvae (ddl = 11; F = 49 p = 0.000) and adults (ddl = 11; F = 50.80 p = 0.000). Cheilomenes sulphureaseems to be stron...

It consisted of monitoring the sanitary condition of 10 rural plots and an experiment plot set up at the Research Farm of University Jean Lorougnon Guédé of Daloa according to the regular and careful inspection of cotton seed germination, seedling health and cotton plants throughout the growing season. The results obtained indicated that the cotton varieties used by farmers had very low germination with maximum number of healthy seedlings of 43.75 % in an experiment condition. Highest number of infected seedlings (24-51%) showing characteristic symptoms of seedling blight leading to their death was observed. Under cultivation, a variety of pests was identified on cotton plants. The most important were Bemisia tabaci, Jacobiella fasciali, Helicoverpa armigera, Dysdercus sp, Earias sp, Zonocerus Variegatus, Haritalodes derogata. The...

They contribute to reduce the pest populations in the cotton farms. Data were collected in four localities treated with chemical vulgarized. Sampling, of rainfall and temperature data were collected respectively by direct counting, capture with mowing net, traps, rain gauges and thermo-hygro-meters installed. We have inventoried 7675 insects including 93% for the Formicidae and 7% for the Coccinellidae. Analysis of variance, showed that there is a significant difference in aboundance of Formicidae but there is no significant difference between the population of Coccinellidae. Rainfall and temperature have not affected the dynamics of beneficial insects populations. Knowledge of those beneficials insects is important to developt an integrated cotton pests control methods.
