A determination of the most common medical problem in this broad occupational group serves as the premise for actions that help teachers to preserve their health and their ability to work in their profession. Objectives of the study were to estimate the prevalence of menopausal symptoms among peri and post-menopausal school teachers in Kumbakonam and to determine the health-seeking behavior of school teachers with menopausal symptoms. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among female teachers aged between 40-60 years in Kumbakonam. The random sampling technique was used, and a total of 264 teachers were included in the study. A semi-structured questionnaire was used to collect the sociodemographic details and the menopausal rating scale was used. Results: The mean (SD) age of the participants was 51.6...

However, there are only few studies that had studied its potential impact on mental health of general public, who are subjected to social distancing, community lockdown and restrictions in their routine activities. Objectives The aim of this study is to assess the prevalence of psychological distress and mental health needs among general public in Tamil Nadu subjected to lockdown, social distancing amidst COVID-19 crisis. Tamil Nadu is one of the worst affected states of southern India. Methods A self-administered, web-based application study using “WHO-Self Reported Questionnaire-20”, in bilingual version, both English and Tamil, is used to screen the public for the level of distress. The study is done while the state is under extended lockdown and restricted movement. Key findings A total of 918 respondents participated in the survey and it is found that about more than one third of the respondents (∼35%) are under psychological distress. A significant association between younger age group, female gender, unmarried, people with children are found to be under distress. The lockdown had increased the frequency of smoking and quantity of cigarettes among smokers, also has increased the frequency of drinking among alcohol consumers. Of the SRQ-20 items recorded, stress related neurotic symptoms (> 70%) was observed more than the depressive mood. About 33% of those scored > 7, had suicidal tendency. The districts declared red zones had significantly reported a greater number of respondents under distress. Conclusion Besides effectively mitigating the COVID-19 crisis, in terms of prevention, control and treatment strategies, it is prerogative to effectively manage fear, distress due to the COVID-19 and associated anxiety and depression among the public.

In spite of advancing research and different classes of anti- hypertensive medications (anti-HT), not all of them can be branded safe. Pulmonary complications of different classes of anti-HT were unexplored in South India. Our aim is to compare PFT among hypertensive (HT) &healthy controls and also among HT taking various classes of anti-HT. Methods: Case control study. Age- matched healthy controls (n=91) HT cases (n=93) randomly selected. Group I Beta blockers (n= 14), Group II Calcium Channel blockers (n= 18), Group III Angiotensin receptor blockers (n=23), Group IV drug combinations (n= 38).Anthropometry taken, BP recorded, PFT assessed using Easyone Spirometer and data analysed using ANOVA and Student "t" test. Results: Study results show statistically significant reduction in PFT values in all groups of cases and also in females. Out of 93 cases, 49 normal PFT, ...

The secondary objective was to identify associated risk factors to different thresholds of dental caries defined by ICDAS. MATERIAL AND METHODS Two hundred and thirty-seven children (13-17 years) from five schools across Chennai city were included using simple random sampling. After obtaining assent to participate in the study and satisfying the selection criteria, 200 children were screened for dental caries using ICDAS-II. The population was assessed for the following risk factors: sociodemographic status, habits, diet, plaque and salivary parameters. Prevalence of dental caries was estimated at the following thresholds: normal (ICDAS-0/1), mild caries (ICDAS-2), moderate caries (ICDAS-3/4) and extensive caries (ICDAS-5/6). Backward logistic regression analysis was performed to identify risk factors at different thresholds and crude odds ratio was calcu...

Methods: Children aged between 5-15 years from slum were enrolled in this study. Socio demographic details were collected and their clinical examinations were done to identify symptoms. Two throat swabs were collected from all the children irrespective of symptoms. Bacterial culture was carried out in blood agar and the isolation of GAS was confirmed using hemolysis on blood agar, streptococcal group identification kit and bacitracin sensitivity. Blood sample was tested for ASO antibody titre. Findings: Group A streptococcus prevalence was isolated in 36% of slum population. Culture positive children were correlated with ASO antibody. Statistically significant correlation (p-value> 0.001) was observed between presence of antibody and culture positive. Recently infected children showed raised ASO antibody titre than the carrier. Major risk factors identified in GAS positive children were father's occupation, type of house, number of windows and the unhygienic conditions of the slum. 36% were infected with Group A Streptococcal infection, 9% infected with Group C, 6% Group B, 1% Group D, 0.1 and 0.3 Group F and Group G streptococcal infection. Conclusion: The result shows that the prevalence of streptococcal infection was common among slum children but the prevalence of Group A streptococcus was high comparing to other groups of streptococcus. Socioeconomic status considered to be major associated risk factor for getting streptococcus infection.

Scientific studies which were conducted and published in Turkey between January 2018 and March 2020 were reviewed in the research. As a result of the literature review, 54 studies that were suitable for the purpose of the study were reached. In analyses conducted with a statistical analysis program, effect levels were compared in terms of subject area and number of participants in addition to approaches/method used. According to the results of this research, it was concluded that STEM education was more effective in increasing students' achievement in science courses when compared with teacher-centred teaching methods. According to the results examined according to other variables discussed in the research, significant difference was found in terms of the year in which the study was conducted, the researcher's job, application period of the study and the number of participants. According to the results of the examined variables, the largest effect size was found in the field of biology, at high school level, doctoral publications, in researchers who were teachers, with 81 and above participants, in studies conducted in 2019.

This procedure has become an ever more activity in all areas of medical science research especially in healthcare circumstances. Data mining has resulted in the innovation of useful hidden patterns from enormous databases. In this paper, a methodology is proposed for the programmed exposure and classification to evaluate the pattern on effectiveness of treatment for Pulmonary Tuberculosis (PTB) patients. Tuberculosis is a disease caused by mycobacterium which spreads through the air and hits low immune bodies easily. Our methodology is based on clustering and classification that classifies the success rate of Tuberculosis treatment based on the two broad classifications of the drug susceptibility testing (DST) namely, sensitivity to all drugs and resistance to any one drug. Age and weight are the main influencing factors for PTB patients, Two Step Clustering(TSC) is used to group da...

The breast cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers in the world that has enough potential to be studied by data mining techniques. . While taking treatment decision for Breast Cancer multiple factors are to be considered. SEER Breast Cancer data is analyzed to extract an accurate model of patients survival using data mining technique like decision tree algorithm, classification and pattern recognition. Evolving from breast cancer insights, decision tree algorithm can employ multiple factors in resolving prediction, classification, pattern recognition, and pattern completion. SEER data set pertained to patients suffering from breast cancer is used to extract an accurate model to identify the survival of patients by data mining techniques. To achieve better prediction of the breast cancer patients’ survivability, only seven features are identified from the...

In healthcare, data mining is becoming increasingly popular, if not increasingly essential. Data mining applications can greatly benefit all parties involved in the healthcare industry. For example, data mining can help physicians to identify risk factors, effective treatments and best practices in health care industry which helps patients to receive better and affordable healthcare services. The huge amounts of data generated by healthcare transactions are too complex and voluminous to be processed and analyzed by traditional methods. Data mining provides the methodology and technology to transform these mounds of data into useful information for decision making. This work will explore data mining applications within healthcare in one of the major area such as the evaluation of treatment effectiveness as well as disease conversion in tuberculosis patients; it aims to compare various classification techniqu...
