Periodontal disease is an inflammatory condition which affects the covering and support structure... more Periodontal disease is an inflammatory condition which affects the covering and support structures of the teeth and, if left untreated, leads to tooth loss. Resorption of the alveolar bone from bi- and trifurcation regions of a multirooted tooth due to the progression of a periodontal disease bears involvement furcation. The degree of furcation involvement is clinically assessed by changes in the vertical and horizontal plane at the root separation area. In the approach of the furcation treatment, the morphological and functional particularities of pluriradicular teeth must be considered and the current techniques look for solutions for the regeneration of the destroyed periodontal tissues. Enamel matrix derivative (EMD) has the role of stimulating healing processes through effects on various growth factors, cement formation, angiogenesis and are used single or in combination with bone graft substitute (BGS) or guided tissue regeneration (GTR) in the complex treatment of periodontal disease. The present study follows PubMed publications on the efficiency of EMD in the treatment of pluriradicular tooth furcations. The findings are that there are not many studies in the usage of EMD associated with the treatment of furcations, but it is an important choice in the complex treatment of destructive periodontal disease, and further studies are needed to be done in periodontal regeneration.

A female teenager with periodontitis-associated health issues and a history of dental trauma was selected for this study. Clinical indices were obtained, and radiographic examination was performed at the beginning of the study. The patient was treated with periodontal therapy and administration of antibiotics. After this therapy, visits were scheduled at regular intervals to observe the clinical changes. Non-surgical periodontal therapy and administration of local and systemic antibiotics resulted in a reduction in the patient pocket depth probing, plaque index, and bleeding on probing. Gingival and periodontal health improved in terms of gingival overgrowth, plaque, tartar index, and tooth mobility. Suppuration was eliminated, and no gingival inflamma...

We present the case of a 32-year-old primiparous women, at 18 weeks of pregnancy, who was referred in our clinic for a routine prenatal ultrasound examination. The ultrasound scan highlighted a single malformed fetus with several major abnormalities of the fetal head: hypoplastic nasal bone, agenesis of corpus callosum, choroid plexus hyperplasia, solid hypoechoic mass on the external wall of the left ventricle, no visible cavum septum pellucidum, third ventricle visible, moderately enlarged and VM with evolution to bilateral hydrocephalus. The parents were informed about the major severity of anomalies and decide to terminate the pregnancy. Prenatal ultrasound examination was decisive in the early prenatal diagnosis and optimized management of the malformed fetus with VM.

The use of oral piercings and especially the piercing of the tongue is mainly related to a series of local complications and individuals who decide to use piercings should be aware of such complications [2]. This article presents the dental complications produced by an unusual association between a tongue piercing and tic behavior, along with the implications associated with such a practice.

Folic acid (FA), also known as folate, or Vitamin B9, plays an indispensable role in various intracellular reactions, being the main pawn, with a strong impact on medical and dental science. The aim of this paper mainly focuses on presenting the latest and most advanced aspects related to the following topics: (1) the resonance that FA, and more specifically FA deficiency, has at the level of the oral cavity; (2) the elements involved in the molecular landscape, which reflect the interaction and the possible mechanisms of action, through which FA influences oral health; and (3) the particular processes by which FA deficiency causes certain clinical conditions. A 28-year-old pregnant female, was addressed in a privatemedical center from Bucharest, Romania, for a routine ultrasound screening. A detailed ultrasoundevaluation of the fetus showed numerous and significant cephalic and heart malformations. Theultrasound examination of the fetal head suggest the diagnosis of fetal lobar hydrocephalus, and theultrasound examination of the fetal heart suggest the transposition of the great vessels. The parentswere informed about the severity of the fetal malformations and decided to terminate the pregnancydue to medical reasons. Anatomopathological examination confirmed the prenatal diagnosis. Firsttrimester ultrasonography was crucial in the early prenatal diagnosis and management of themalformed fetus with a unique association of fetal malformations.

For this purpose, from patients’ medical files, we extracted the data regarding the periodic, annual, height and weight determinations of 50 preschoolers and schoolchildren, institutionalized in two Special Schools in Bucharest, which we compared with the standard tables used for Romanian population. The results showed that all children with DS show a disharmonious stature-weight development, with excess weight, as a consequence of both chromosomal trisomy and associated congenital malformations, especially h...

Ultrasound examination showed a fetus with: cleft lip and cleft palate, ocular hypertelorism, polydactyly and polycystic kidney. Amniocentesis was performed and the fetal chromosomal analysis indicated a normal cytogenetic female, karyotype: 46XX. Further genetic investigations were done. After genetical counseling the parents decided to terminate the pregnancy. The autopsy confirmed the ultrasound findings.

The selection criteria for case sample were: age over 30 years, history of malformative risk, clinical exam that emphasised malformations and ultrasound examination that suspicioned embrio-fetal morphological abnormalities. We determined the serum levels of alpha fetoprotein (AFP), human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) and unconjugated estriol (uE3), by immunoenzymometry. As statistical analysis we determined the estimated median value. For each of the three parametres, the final curve was compared with the value obtained by spectrophotometry. The study revealed the predictive value of correlated use of these three parameters, together with ultrasound examination and cytogenetic investigations, in order to early prenatal diagnosis of congenital fetal anomalies.

Its an important cause of materno-fetal morbidity and mortality. The placenta seems to be the main cause because after placental removal preeclampsia is no longer present. Placental examination is crucial and can reveal important information about this disease. After careful examination, besides the classic findings, new and uncommon histopathological aspects of the placenta in preeclampsia were described. A short observational study was performed which included placentas from preeclampsia complicated pregnancies. The various histopathological findings of the placenta in preeclampsia were evaluated according to gestational age.

The present study aims to highlight the phenotypic heterogeneity of impacted third molars in a Caucasian family, to investigate the characteristics of the dental phenotype, to evidence the diversity of dental phenotype, and to identify the inheritance mode of the condition. Detailed anamnesis, clinical examination, complementary tests (panoramic radiographs), family study and pedigree analysis. Phenotypic characteristics of impacted third molar tooth in our family case report was: Severe horizontal impaction of the mandibular right third molar, Angular impaction of the maxillary right third molar and angular impaction of the maxillary left third molar, Angular impaction of the mandibular left third molar and partial eruption of the maxillary right third molar, Horizontal impaction of the mandibular left third molar and Angular impaction of the mandibular left third molar. The inheritance mode of the impacted third molar tooth in the family case report was: from mother to both daughters' transmission, from mother to both sons' transmission, and from mother to daughter transmission. Family study and pedigree analysis are very important for illustrate the genetic basis of impacted teeth.
