Research paper thumbnail of Evidence of improvement in thermoelectric parameters of n-type Bi2Te3/graphite nanocomposite

In-depth thermoelectric properties of nanostructured Bi2Te3/graphite composites are probed both microscopically and macroscopically using x-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, inelastic neutron scattering, and measurement of the temperature dependence of thermal conductivity κ, Seebeck coefficient S, resistivity ρ, and carrier concentration nH. Raman spectroscopic analysis confirms that graphite introduces defects and disorder in the system. Graphite addition induces a large (∼17%) decrease of κ, originating from a strong phonon scattering effect. A low lattice thermal conductivity, κL, value of 0.77 W m−1 K−1, approaching the κmin value, estimated using the Cahill–Pohl model, is reported for Bi2Te3 + 1.0 wt. % graphite sample. Graphite dispersion alters the low-energy inelastic neutron scattering spectrum providing evidence for modification of the Bi2Te...

Research paper thumbnail of Evaluation of the Use of College Library Resources and Services by the Undergraduate Students in Darjeeling District of West Bengal

The survey research method using structured questionnaires was adopted for the collection of data from the users. A total of 400 questionnaires were distributed randomly to the users, out of which 364 completely filled-in questionnaires were received back and included in the analysis. The findings reveal that majority of student users visit the college libraries on a regular basis mainly for the purpose of burrowing and returning library books. Most of the college libraries have easily accessible location, good layout, sufficient lighting & ventilation and neat & clean premises. The college libraries are mostly having the collection of text books but the collection of journals/magazines is found to be inadequate in many college libraries. It has been found that only few college libraries offer open access to all documents, electronic information resources, daily newspapers and syllabus & question papers to users. Most of the college libraries under study need to improve the services in regard to issuance of sufficient number of documents, adequate numbers of computers for users, provision of internet and photocopy services, exhibition of newly acquired documents, reference service and reading tables, chairs & space. The lack of internet in the library, short library hour, lack of user orientation/education and insufficient number of computers are found to be the major problems identified to affect the use of library.

Besides, a citation analysis has also been done through the study of 8910 citations appended to the theses for the period of 2008-2012. The main purpose of this study is to investigate chronological distribution of theses, gender-wise distribution, supervisor-ship pattern, subject-wise distribution. The findings of the study revealed that an average of 7.43 theses was published during the whole period under study; the relative growth rate and doubling time for theses under study work out to 0.631 and 0.966 respectively; the grand average number of citations per theses was 146 citations and journals is the most prolific bibliographic forms used by the researchers. This study also examines the conformity to Lotka’s law with the distribution of data.

The paper examines the result from a questionnaire-based survey conducted at the library. 100 samples of the questionnaire were distributed randomly between the staff and students of the college out of which 93 completed and received for analysis. The study reveals that a significant number of users search information regarding the library material through OPAC despite encountering problems. Lack of basic skills among users was found to be the major reason for not utilizing full features of OPAC, improper query formulation and non use of search operators while surf the web. It is suggested that library should organize quality instruction programmes to improve knowledge and skills of the users.

In the digital environment, social tagging has the potential to overcome certain limitations of traditional subject headings. The main objectives of this research paper are to identify the scope of user-generated tags as compared to Subject Heading Lists and to explore the extent to which these user-generated tags can be used to enhance subject access. In this research paper, the problem is comparison between the Subject heading List and user generated tags. This work is an exploratory research and has followed a case study method. Five searches were performed in Library Thing using its Tag mash feature (essentially a keyword search of the user tag field) using 5 tags. After searching articles and interpreting all data, a comparison between the subject headi...

Beside the traditional services library renders new services like automated circulation, web-OPAC and use of e-resources 24 hours from home, e-CAS facility etc to make library services updated with the new era and to satisfy the ever growing need of the users today. In general staff of any library is divided into four types: Professional, Semiprofessional, nonprofessional and Technical staff. Among the 42 govt. and govt. aided general degree colleges 16 colleges are surveyed from which 15 colleges responded to the survey. Among the colleges responded to our survey there are 3 Govt. Degree colleges and 12 govt. aided general degree colleges. This study is done through the survey method and a questionnaire was given to each college. The data collected from the survey are analyzed and concluded through the results and recommendations for future scope of research in this area.

It is difficult if not possible to maximize the values of this resource without adequate understanding of how to leverage and share knowledge throughout the organization. Knowledge plays an important role in the overall development of intellectual capital of any organization. We are now shifting from information society to knowledge-based society, where we are not so much bothering about the visible or tangible information but deeply thinking about intangible information i.e. knowledge. In this knowledge-based society the main strategic resources are knowledge. And knowledge is the fuel, which is driving today the technology, economy, and the society itself. In this changing context there must have systematic way to capture, process, store and ultimately share knowledge for the development of an organization as well as society. Present Paper attempt to highlight the principles, efforts and barriers of knowledge sharing in Digital Environment
