Therefore, the research purposes were to examine the prevalence and severity of MSD problems among the students in different body regions and determine the relationship between furniture dimensions and MSD problems. A total of 400 university students (250 males and 150 females) voluntarily participated in this survey. Standard Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire was used to assess the MSDs. All dimensions of the four types academic furniture were measured and evaluated. A Chi-square test was used to determine the association between furniture dimensions and body measurements. Moreover, lordosis and kyphosis abnormalities were analyzed to determine the relationship between furniture dimensions and MSDs. The results showed a high frequency of MSDs in the Lower Back region (52.25%) among the participants. Moreover, female participants were more affected than male participan...

To attain a specific function these compliance standards have been expanded separately at different occasions. Handling with these individual management systems and confirming their in-line position with organizational business objective are always found difficult. The current situation has accelerated the demand for integrating individual management standards in conjunction with business objectives of the organizations. A holistic TQM approach can effectively consolidate the existing quality, health & safety, social accountability and environmental operations into an indivisible and cross-functional management system. To some extent, the current management standards are treated as a subgroup of TQM. The benefits of such fusion exceed the sum of fractional benefits of individually handled management systems. If a company wishes to increase its profit, one way is to reduce the manufacturing cost with maintaining the quality of the product. Waste reduction, especially the (wait) time waste, is an important factor to shrink the manufacturing cost. The purpose of this paper is to identify and address the way to reduce idle time in the apparel manufacturing organization using various line balancing technique to improve productivity and efficiency in domestic context. Line balancing job has been done through the ‘Largest Candidate Rule ’ and ‘Ranked Positional Weight Technique’. Using these techniques, a software has been developed to arrange the elemental tasks in the workstation, and to show the balancing efficiencies of each method and other important information. The overall job may be very helpful in some decision making process of the organization. At last a...

Now a day, the demand for quality improvement of the product has been raised to cope with the challenges in marketplaces. TQM implementation has already shown a positive attitude towards quality improvement. As a result, Bangladeshi RMG firms are trying to implement TQM in their organizations. Unfortunately, they are not able to implement TQM in their organizations. To determine the exact obstacles, two–pronged approached are used: first, an extensive literature review has been conducted to find out the obstacles of TQM implementation and second, data have been collected from some selected Bangladeshi RMG firms. 25 obstacles have been identified so far. Finally, five obstacles have been selected for empirical test according to the expert’s opinion. The findings of this study suggest that, the most important barriers are lack of: top-management commitment to quality, focus on customer...

Aggregate production planning is concerned with the determination of production, inventory, and w... more Aggregate production planning is concerned with the determination of production, inventory, and work force levels to meet fluctuating demand requirements over a planning horizon that ranges from six months to one year. An aggregate planning model based on linear programming is developed here. In our paper we mainly focus on experimenting with workforce. We mainly follow changing three criteria of workforce such as fixed workforce, changing workforce and the combination of fixed and changing workforce. Using these three criteria the total cost of production of a cable industry is reduced. The percentage of cost reduction is different in these criteria’s. TORA software has been used to evaluate the optimized value.

As the number of jobs and machines increase, the flow shop scheduling problems in the industry approaches to difficulty. Consider a regular flow shop cell with several bottleneck stages. If such were the case, the industry owners would provide more resources to these bottleneck stages. In this case it is so much important to eliminate the bottleneck in production section and improve the total productivity of the industry. This paper deals with the Branch and Bound technique for solving M machines and N jobs in flow-shop scheduling problem. Here the optimal sequence of jobs is obtained through minimizing the total elapsed time by a lower Bounding (LB) method based on the Branch and Bound algorithm. The worki...

T... more The economic lot scheduling problem (ELSP) creates challenge between lot sizing and sequencing. The ELSP’s primary goal is to minimize the total setup and holding expenditures of different products on a single machine. ELSP is a mathematical model. It deals with a company’s planning what to manufacture, when to manufacture and how much to manufacture. This paper deals with the Economic Lot Scheduling (ELS) of a Jute industry for time varying demand with Stock out. This model will help to understand the total production time and allocate individual time against each product. This also increases the cycle time for a given aggregate inventory. In reality, demands and capacities are varying with time. An aggregate plan is expected to give time varying capacities since the plan is to meet fluctuating demand. It is therefore necessary to model the more realistic situation where the demand and capacity vary each day. This model will provide a production schedule of a set of items in a sing...

Management offers sales incentives & product discounts at festival times that sometimes create a complex situation to supply the demands properly. This complexity restricts SC performance and market possession. Hence, this research aimed to explore the responsible causes behind this complexity & bullwhip occurrence and claimed sales force incentives, number of echelons, price variation, quantity discount, & machine breakdown as the most responsible causes. Intensity of bullwhip effect (BWE) was measured by Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) of MATLAB TM to visualize their severity on SC performance. Few strategies have been proposed to minimize thier severity on SC excellence. Finally, this article proposed some managerial applications and guidelines to release the management from the frequently arising problems of distorted demands that will result in proper production & inventory management.

But in some cases, these trolleys are not ergonomically designed and so many workers suffer from various musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). The purpose of this study is to find the mismatch between trolley dimension and anthropometric data. Anthropometric measurements (2) of 50 workers and dimensions (2) of industrial trolley were taken and so these were differentiated. Mismatches were found out by doing chi-square test. According to a survey, workers' experiencing pain was found out in their various body parts. It was found that wheel radius and handle height were too short which cause discomfort to the workers. These inspections suggest dimensions for the design of an industrial trolley so that comfort and efficiency of the workers can be ensured.

More specifically, the present study is a supplement of the previous call from research to investigate the TQM-enabling factors from a broader aspect of organizational change. Design/methodology/approach-This study was conducted through an online survey, followed by phone calls. Data were collected using a questionnaire survey with 256 respondents of the Bangladeshi RMG sector. The TQM-enabling factors were divided into five distinct groups, based on strategic or overall changes required within an organization for TQM implementation. A theoretical research model was created to investigate the contingency of various TQM-enabling factors. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was applied to confirm the factor that enabled TQM implementation in the RMG sector of Bangladesh. Findings-The main finding of this study shows that structural, strategic, contextual and human resource-enabling factors are significant to TQM implementation in the Bangladeshi RMG sector. Research limitations/implications-This study has been completed in single time frame. Therefore, consideration of the time factor is completely ignored in this research. Furthermore, understanding of TQM-enabling factors in this research relied on quantitative findings only. Also, this study was limited to one industry and one geographic region. However, this study could determine whether data triangulation will provide a good perception on enabling factors and the methodology can be extended to other industries and regions. Practical implications-This study provides a research methodology for other manufacturing industries that are planning to implement TQM in their organization.
