Background : To evaluate the effect of low dose intrathecal dexmedetomidine and clonidine as adju... more Background : To evaluate the effect of low dose intrathecal dexmedetomidine and clonidine as adjuvant to bupivacaine on hemodynamic parameters of the patients . A total of 60 patients , scheduled for lower abdominal , lower limb and gynaecological procedures were selected to participate in this prospective , randomised double blind study . After injecting the drug time were noted (T0) and the patient were turned to supine position . Preoperative systolic and diastolic blood pressure , Heart rate were noted at specific time interval. Results : Heart rate , systolic blood pressure , diastolic blood pressure and mean arterial pressure were compared in both the groups and there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups . Conclusions : Both clonidine and dexmedetomidine as adjuvant to bupivacaine showed fall in heart rate , systolic blood pressure , diastolic blood pressure and mean arterial blood pressure . However there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in these parameters.

A total of 60 patients , scheduled for lower abdominal , lower limb and gynaecological procedures were selected to participate in this prospective , randomised double blind study . After injecting the drug time were noted (T0) and the patient were turned to supine position . Following observation were recorded : Duration of sensory block(T5) , Duration of motor block (T6) , Time for rescue analgesia(T7) were noted , Pain was assessed using the Visual Analogue Score (VAS)(0:no pain, 10:maximum pain). Results : The results of outcome variables were suggestive of improved effect of addition of clonidine or dexmedetomidine as adjuvant to 0.5 % Bupivacaine (heavy) on duration of sensory block , duration of motor block , post operative analgesia . Conclusions : Increased duration of both motor , sensory block and post operative analgesia in dexmedetomidine group compared to clonidine can be applicable in improving the duration of post operative analgesia in surgical cases.

Presence of appropriate equipment and actual procedure employed, greatly affect the outcome in Di... more Presence of appropriate equipment and actual procedure employed, greatly affect the outcome in Difficult Airway situation. Medical Colleges being torchbearers in this, have been studied. Consultant presence during intubation in 54% Medical Colleges is commendable. Gum Elastic Bougie is rejected as first choice option by 71% Medical Colleges, though 88% Medical Colleges have mentioned Metal or PVC stylets as first choice options. Blind Nasal Intubation at 33% is the highest 2 nd choice option. The Fibreoptic Bronchoscope and Intubating Laryngeal Mask Airway at 29% and 17% respectively, obtain the third highest choice option. 67% Medical Colleges postpone the difficult airway case for investigations. It facilitates planning and preparation. Planned tracheostomy at combined 4 th and 3 rd choice option of 42% indicates handling of more complicated cases. Flexible fibreoptic stylets and Glidescope are not in the running. Development of low skill procedures for difficult airway is yet to catch up, as does that for invasive airway devices. We believe that this survey is the first such study carried out in Medical Colleges in India.

In the present investigation, a detailed comparison is made between the human knee and the knee o... more In the present investigation, a detailed comparison is made between the human knee and the knee of chicken (Gallus domesticus), with the object of determining similarities or variation of structure and their possible functional significance, if any special attention has been paid to bone taking part in joint, the surrounding muscles and tendons, which play an important part in stabilizing these joints, the form and attachments of the intraarticular menisci, which have been credited with the function of ensuring efficient lubrication throughout joints movement, and to the ligaments, the function of which is disputed.

This case report describes use of fibreoptic bronchoscope to place an endotracheal tube in oesophagus through nasal route which was then used as a conduit to pass a RT into stomach.
