International Journal of Current Microbiology and Applied Sciences

A study done to evaluate the level of knowledge and infection control practices followed by nurse... more A study done to evaluate the level of knowledge and infection control practices followed by nurses was carried out in a tertiary care hospital. The data was collected by a pre-structured questionnaire and training. The mean knowledge of staff nurses regarding infection control measures was 52.3% which increased to 68% after conducting training, demonstration and follow-up audits on infection control related topics. This emphasizes on the importance of proper training of healthcare workers regarding infection control practices. Infection control training of healthcare workers is needed to improve knowledge and practice in infection control.

During the foetal life, vitelline duct tends to obliterates itself till to disappear. The partial failure of this obliteration can lead to the development of a duct, a ligament, or a diverticulum known as a Meckel's diverticulum. A Patent omphalomesenteric duct occurs because of the complete lack of vitelline duct.[3] The urachus is an embryological remnant of the allantois. Between the fourth and fth month of gestation, the foetal bladder tends to descend gradually and its apical portion creates the urachus. The urachus obliterates itself, becoming the median umbilical ligament. Its persistence after intrauterine life can manifest as urachal remnants. A patent urachus is because of complete lack of obliteration of urachus [1,3]. The incidence of these anomalies PU was 1-2 per 10000 while PVD is 1 in 5000 to 8000 deliveries [1,3,5]. The association of both anomalies...

The aim of study is early detection of MRSA and antibiotic sensitivity pattern. Early detection of MRSA is necessary to implement effective control measures and control their spread in Hospital. Materials and Method: The bacterial isolates from various clinical specimens of patients admitted in our hospital were cultured as per standard protocol and all isolates of Staphylococcus aureus obtained were included in the study. The antimicrobial susceptibility testing was performed by Kirby–Bauer disc diffusion method. The isolates were tested for methicillin resistance by using cefoxitin by disc diffusion method Interpretation of result was done using CLSI 2016 guidelines. Results: During a period of one year, a total of 464 isolates of S. aureus were studied and 186 (40%) were found to be methicillin-resistant. The maximum isolation of MRSA was from pus samples 77 (41%). MRSA is...

The most common presentation is gynaecomastia, where cosmetic correction is sought. Over the last two decades the rate of male breast complaints increased from 0.8% to 2.4%, while 1% of all breast cancer occur in males. Aim: To study the pattern of various male breast diseases in a tertiary care centre of Aurangabad District in Maharashtra, India. Materials and Methods: This prospective clinical interventional study was carried out in 44 male patients above age of 12 years coming with complaints related to breast to Department of General Surgery of Government Medical College, Aurangabad from 1st August 2017 to 31st July 2019. Detailed history was taken and any underlying causative disease/risk factor or medication if any was noted. Thorough clinical examination and laboratory investigations were done. Ultra-sonog...

Surgeons either employ primary definitive repair in a single stage or the traditional three-stage repair. Aim: The present study describes the management and outcome of ARM at the Surgery Department of a tertiary care hospital from the Marathwada region of Maharashtra. Materials and Methods: It is a prospective, observational and descriptive study. All cases of ARM admitted in Department of Surgery, GMCH Aurangabad during the study period (September 2013 to November 2015) were enrolled. 105 cases were included as per the criteria during the study period. Management and outcome were described with respect to the treatment modality used, complications and related details. Results: Out of 105 cases of ARM, one case succumbed to death. Out of 104 live babies, 15 cases were managed by primary single stage anoplasty by PSARP. From the rest ...

The study was carried during the period of Jan 2017 to Dec 2017 in Bacteriology section department of Microbiology in Government Medical College and hospital Aurangabad. 530 samples received from patients of ICU and MICU of hospital for culture and sensitivity. Out of which 330/530 (62%) samples were from endotracheal secretions suspected of pneumonia and 90/530 (17%) were Urine samples and 75/530 (14%) were blood samples. Samples were processed identified by different biochemical reactions. Only device associated hospital acquired infection were studied. Out of 330 samples of ventilated associated pneumonia 199 (60%) showed bacterial growth 131 samples were sterile. In 90 urine samples 34/90 (38%) samples showed growth and 56 were sterile. In 75 blood samples 22/75 (29%) samples showed growth and 43 samples were sterile. In this cases pattern of microorganisms were identified with assessment of antibiotic sensitivity profile. The common infection found was ventilated associated pneumonia followed by Urinary tract infection and blood stream infections. Organisms isolated were Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter baumanii, Escherichia.coli, Enterobacter and Staphylococcus aureus. Gram negative bacteria isolated were in maximum numbers as compared to gram positive cocci. Antibiotic sensitivity pattern of these isolates was done against commonly used antibiotics. Multidrug resistance pattern was noted. Patients admitted in MICU and ICU are more susceptible to Hospital acquired infections. In spite of antibiotic treatment, occurrence of Hospital acquired infections is responsible for increased stay of patients in hospital. Among Hospital acquired infections common Ventilator associated pneumonia, urinary tract infection and blood stream infections. Gram negative bacilli were seen in more numbers than in gram positive cocci. Organisms were showing multidrug resistance pattern. Association of ventilator associated pneumonia were common occurrence followed by Urinary tract infection and blood stream infection. Gram negative bacilli of Enterobactericiae were common isolation. Multidrug resistance to antibiotics was noted.
