Domke is one of the eaglewood species that is distributed especially in the East region of Indonesia, including Lombok Island, West Nusa Tenggara, and it grows in the natural habitat or is cultivated. The aim of this study was to explore different uses of G. versteegii, and reveal important ethnobotanical aspects of G. versteegii in Lombok Island. Ethnobotanical methods applied in this study included participatory observation, interview, documentation, and verification using herbarium specimens. The total reported use (RU) of G. versteegii is 19, where the stem has the highest percentage in the type of utilization. This result means that generally, G. versteegii has several potential uses in local communities that could be revealed, developed and conserved. Conservation efforts need to be considered to maintain the availability and diversity of agarwood-producing species, as well as to ensure the preservation of the natural environment where it grows.

So far, tea tree essential oil producers on the island of Lombok do not utilize by-products in the form of hydrosol (distilled water) produced in the process of making essential oils. In this study, the characterization and analysis of the chemical composition of the hydrosol of tea tree leaves growing on the island of Lombok was carried out. The characteristic aroma of hydrosol is similar to that of tea tree essential oil. The results of the GC-MS analysis also showed that the hydrosol of tea tree leaves also had similarities with the essential oil, composed of major compounds in the form of trans-caryophyllene (28.58%), limonene (13.98%) and terpinen-4-ol (16.27%). Other compounds detected were -pinene (4.14%), -pinene (6.50%), -myrcene (8.09%), -terpineol (10.10%) and -terpinene (5.77%).

The technique of analysis used was USEAP-Method S 15, based on evolution of carbon disulfide which was measured as a xanthate. The study indicated that the dithiocarbamate residues mainly persisted on soil surface (0-1 cm); ranging froml.82 to 4.82 mg/ kg dry matter and only a low concentration was found at a depth of 1-10 cm. The analysis of garlic bulbs revealed that all sampled garlic bulbs were contaminated with dithiocarbamate residues, with concentrations ranging from 8.95 to 31.26 mg/kg dry matter. Some localities showed consistently higher concentration than other localities. However, the residues tended to decrease exponentially, and within 21 days of harvesting were 0.78 and 1.73 mg/kg dry matter. This study also proved that the 'xanthate technique' was precise and reproducible for analysing...

Meanwhile, G. versteegii Soyun and Pantai have LC50 75.86 μg/mL and 56.36 μg/mL respectively. A phytochemical study showed that the methanol extract of G. versteegii Buaya containing compounds from the group of alkaloid, flavonoid, steroid, triterpenoid, and saponin. The methanol extracts fractionated using Vacuum Liquid Chromatography into 10 fractions (F1-F10) and then retested BSLT. Among the fractions, F2 showed the best potency as an anticancer with L...

Lombok has a large population while herbal medicines are widely used with a diverse range of plant species. 2) Investigate the alkaloid constituents of selected plants including isolation, purification, and characterisation, and structure elucidation. 3) Evaluate antibacterial and antimalarial activities of crude alkaloid extracts and major alkaloid compounds isolated from the plants. 4) Identify compounds as possible new drug leads. A combined chemoand bio-rational strategy based on alkaloid content and traditional medicinal plant use was demonstrated to be an effective and efficient approach to finding new biologically active compounds in nature. Several new alkaloids were isolated with some potential for development as antibacterial and antimalarial agents. Some previously...

This progress has been directed to obtain analysis techniques that are able to accurately quantify Mercury (Hg) at extremely low concentration in which it frequently occurs. As part of a study on the environmental aspects of deep-sea submarine tailing placement at the Batu Hijau Mine, Sumbawa, this paper discusses recent progress in Hg analytical techniques, followed by the application of several techniques to investigate Hg concentration in seawater in the vicinity of the tailing discharge location. Using cold vapour atomic fluorescence spectrometry, dissolved Hg was found to be at sub-ng/l (ppt) levels. No dissolved Hg signal associated with the tailing discharge was found with concentrations being similar to adjacent coastal waters.

A survey was conducted to learn the production process; and the chemical composition of the Sumbawa oils was determined by fractionation method using three solvents with different polarity (methanol, dichloromethane (DCM) and nhexane), followed by GC-MS analysis of each extract. In general, the three Sumbawa Oils were traditionally produced by mixing various species of medical plants into the coconut oil through heating process. Based on GC-MS analysis, the constituents of the Sumbawa oils are mainly fatty acid, fatty acid ester, monoterpene, and sesquiterpene. Three major identical compounds were identified in all three products with different percentages of abundance namely octadecanoic acid/stearic acid, hexadecanoic acid/palmitic acid, and methyl palmitate. Furthermore, there were other major compounds such as linoleic acid, lycopersene, and dodecanoic acid/lauric acid. The non-natural product compounds found in Sumbawa oil extracts and the biological activities of major compounds are discussed in this article.

SAP is hydrophilic networks that can absorb and retain huge amount of water within their structures. Humic acid as starting material of polymer, was isolated from subgrade Batujai Dam by using IHSS method. Water Absorption Capacity (WAC) measurement, FTIR analysis, and agitation tests to investigate the cross-linking process and which of Al3+ and SO42- ions causes the crosslinking are carried out. Optimum cross-linking ratio of CMC and cross-linker appeared to be 2wt% corresponded to WAC determination. FTIR spectrum of CMC/humic acid blend and agitation test showed that CMC react with humic acid during polymerization process via Al3+ ion. Keywords: carboxymethyl cellulose; Al3+ ion; humic acid; superabsorbent polymer.
