Important characteristics of primary care should be highlighted as having a high potential for success in coping with COVID-19, such as territorial coverage, or the bond of health professionals without longitudinal monitoring of families, a complexity of individual multifaceted care of the basic approach, involving the social determinants of health, identified in the health coverage area, the identification of users and vulnerable areas, the monitoring of elderly patients and chronic diseases. The precariousness of the health sector in Brazil has important effects on the organization of Primary Care work. Inadequate working conditions, including lack of professionals and lack of equipment, compromise the resolution of health problems. A union between teaching and service, signed by the...

The cases were population-based, selected from the Primary Health Care services. The controls were selected from the database of the Brazilian Live Births Information System. Controls were paired with cases by gender, year, and hospital of birth.ResultsA total of 570 participants (114 cases and 456 controls) were studied. Most of the participants were male, with bilateral spastic cerebral palsy. Among the prenatal factors examined, the presence of congenital anomalies was significantly different between cases and controls (OR = 54.28, [95% CI 12.55, 234.86]). The analysis of perinatal factors revealed significant differences between cases and controls in low birth ...

Methods: this research study used the integrative review methodology with descriptors in English and Portuguese: 'communication', 'hospitals', 'communication aids for the disabled', in the following databases: LILACS, PubMed, Cinahl, Cochrane Library, SciELO, Scopus, Web of Science. Several articles in English and Portuguese, from the last 14 years, which addressed alternative communication strategies used with hospitalized adults and the elderly, were included. Studies on children, as well as duplicates, reviews, and those that addressed other methods of communication were excluded. Results: 13 articles characterized the alternative communication strategies used with adults and the elderly. There was a prevalence of intubated or tracheostomized patients, a...

Use of spatial statistics and a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are scarce and may contribute to the understanding of CP in a social context. To that end a spatial analysis of CP in children and adolescents was performed to analyze the association of CP with levels of vulnerability in a city (Aracaju, Sergipe) in north-eastern Brazil. In addition, an ecological study was conducted with data obtained from a populationbased survey and secondary data. Exploratory spatial data analysis and linear regression were used. A total of 288 CP cases were identified, with a prevalence of 1.65/1,000 and differences among city neighbourhoods ranging from 0-4/1,000. The mean age of cases studied was 9 years 1 month, with a standard deviation of 5 years 2 months. Most study subjects with cerebral palsy (163) were male (56.4%). The distribution of CP in the study population was not homogeneous throughout the territory. Som...

We have shown that lifetime isolated growth hormone deficiency (IGHD) causes high pitch voice, with higher values of most formant frequencies, maintaining a prepuberal acoustic prediction. The objectives of this work were to verify the effects of the therapy with a semi-occluded vocal tract (SOVTT) and choir training on voice in these subjects with IGHD. We speculated that acoustic vocal parameters can be improved by SOVTT or choir training. This is a prospective longitudinal study without control group. Acoustic analysis of isolated vowels was performed in 17 adults with IGHD before and after SOVTT (pre-SOVTT and post-SOVTT) and after choir training (post training), in a 30-day period. The first formant was higher in post training compared with the pre-SOVTT (...

This is a cross-sectional study. Acoustic analysis of isolated vowels was performed in 33 individuals with IGHD, age 44.5 (17.6) years (16 women), and 29 controls, age 51.1 (17.6) years (15 women). Compared with controls, IGHD men showed higher values of F3 [i, e, and ε], P = 0.006, P = 0.022, and P = 0.006, respectively and F4 [i], P = 0.001 and lower values of F2 [u], P = 0.034; IGHD women presented higher values of F1 [i and e] P = 0.029 and P = 0.036; F2 [ɔ] P = 0.006; F4 [ɔ] P = 0.031 and lower values of F2 [i] P = 0.004. IGHD abolished most of the gender differences in formant frequencies present in controls. Congenital, severe IGHD results in higher values of most formant frequencies, suggesting smaller oral and pharyngeal cavities. In addition, it causes a reduction in the effect of gender on the structure of the formants, maintaining a prepubertal acoustic prediction.
