The morphology of the films constructed was determined by scanning electron microscope (SEM) while energy dispersive X-Ray analyzer (EDX) was used to establish the presence of organic PMAP and PPy film coating and its compositions. The corrosion performance of MS coated with both polymer films were investigated after 0.5 hours immersed in 0.5M NaCl aqueous solution by using polarization curves. It was found that PPy coating provides anodic protection while PMAP coating provides cathodic protection towards corrosion protection of mild steel substrate.

However, there are not much discovery on the behavior of hybrid nanocomposite. In this study, single and hybrid nanocomposites of toughened epoxy filled CNT/SiC nanoparticles were investigated. The hybrid nanocomposites samples were prepared by combining CNT and SiC nanoparticles in toughened epoxy matrix via mechanical stirring method assisted with ultrasonic cavitations. Epoxy resin and liquid epoxidized natural rubber (LENR) mixture were first blend prior to the addition of nanofillers. Then, the curing process of the nanocomposite samples were conducted by compression molding technique at 130°C for 2 hours. The purpose of this study is to investigate the hybridization effect of CNT and SiC nanoparticles on mechanical properties toughened epoxy matrix. The total loading of single and hybrid nanofillers were fixed to 4% volume are 0, 4C, 4S, 3S1C, 2S2C, and 1S3C. Mechanical properties of hybrid composites show that the highest value of tensile strength achieved by 3S1C sample at about 7% increment and falls between their single composite values. Meanwhile, the stiffness of the same sample is significantly increased at about 31% of the matrix. On the other hand, a highest flexural property is obtained by 1S3C sample at about 20% increment dominated by CNT content. However, the impact strength shows reduction trend with the addition of SiC and CNT into the matrix. The hybridization of SiC and CNT show highest value in sample 1S3C at about 3.37 kJ/m 2 of impact energy absorbed. FESEM micrograph have confirmed that better distributions and interaction observed between SiC nanoparticles and matrix compared to CNT, which contributed to higher tensile strength and modulus.

Therefore, the objective of this study is to synthesize zinc oxide nanostructures with the most practical ways by using sol-gel method and characterize the nanostructures. Sol-gel method is the simplest method and has the ability to control the particle size and morphology through systematic monitoring of reaction parameters. ZnO nanoparticles were synthesized via sol gel method using Zinc acetate dehydrate (Zn(CH3COO)2.2H2O) as a precursor and ethanol (CH2COOH) was used as solvent, Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and distilled water were used as medium. ZnO nanoparticles were characterized by using XRD, EDX, FESEM, and nano-particles analyser. Result of EDX characterization shows that the ZnO nanoparticles has good purity with (Zinc content of-55.38% and; Oxygen content of-44.62%). XRD result spectrum displays mainly oxygen and zinc peaks, which indicate the crystallinity in nature as exhibited. FESEM micrographs shows that synthesized ZnO have a rod-like structure. The obtained ZnO nanoparticles are homogenous and consistent in size which corresponds to the XRD result that exhibit good crystallinity. ZnO nanoparticles were successfully synthesized by sol-gel method in nanosize range within 81.28nm to 84.98nm.

Composite polyester reinforced kenaf fiber has been prepared via hand lay-up process by varying fiber forms into plain weave, twill and mats structure. The reinforcing efficiency of different fiber structure was compared with control of unreinforced polyester sample. It was found that the strength and stiffness of the composites are largely affected by fiber structure. A maximum value for tensile strength of composite was obtained for twill weave pattern of fiber structure while no significant different for plain weave and mat structure. The elastic modulus of composite has shown some improvement on plain and twill weave pattern. Meanwhile, lower value of modulus elasticity achieved by mats structure composite as well as control sample. The modulus of rupture and impact resistance were also analyzed. The improvement of modulus of rupture value can be seen on plain and twill weave pattern. However impact resistance doesn't show significant improvement in all types of structure except for mat fiber. The mechanical properties of kenaf fiber reinforced polyester composite found to be increased with woven and non-woven fiber structures in composite.

These natural fiber composite combine good mechanical properties with low specific mass ad offer alternative materials for glass fiber reinforced plastics in some technical application (Gassan 2002). Despite the attractiveness of natural fiber reinforced polymer matrix composites, they suffer from lower modulus, lower strength and relatively poor moisture resistance compared to synthetic fiber reinforced composites (Thwe and Liao, 2002). One difficulty that has prevented the use of natural fibers is the lack of good adhesion with polymeric matrices (Bessadok et al. 2008). According to Gassan 2002, their high level of moisture absorption, poor wettability by non-polar plastic and insufficient adhesion between untreated fibers and polymer matrix lead to debonding with age. The presence of hydroxyl and other pola...

Lignocellulosic-derived fillers have many advantages compared to inorganic fillers. The advantages of natural filler receiving increasing attention for industrial application due to cost effectiveness, low density, high specific strength, bio-degradability and free from health hazard (Baiardo et al. 2002; Thwe & Liao 2002). According to Mohd Ishak et al. (1998), these materials have greater deformability, flexibility during processing and derived from renewable resources. Hybridisation of the natural fiber that contains two or more fillers is the advantages of one type of filler could complement what are lacking in other (Thwe & Liao 2002). In this study, the used of RH filler and EFB fiber have twofold:one is to reduce the cost of expensive synthetic filler using rice husk and the other is utilize the inherent reinforcing fiber that can counterba...

The nanocomposites with different weight percentage of SiCNP and MWCNTs loading were fabricated by mechanical blending operation assisted with an ultrasonic cavitation technique. The loadings utilized were 0, 2, 4, and 6% of total composites weight. The result shows that the optimum filler loading of both systems were obtainable at 4% of SiCNP and MWCNTs of loadings. Composite with SiCNP filler achieved the highest value of tensile strength and Young's modulus at about 11% and 4%, respectively as compared to unfilled system. The enhancement pattern in MWCNTs nanocomposite systems were not significant as compared than SiCNP composite. The tensile strength and Young's modulus of MWCNTs composite were increased at only about 7% and 2%, respectively compared than unfilled system. The strain at break attribute for both filler system had shown reduction pattern at higher loading started from 2% loading and onwards. The variation in tensile properties were further supported by the tensile fracture morphologies and clearly shown that the filler-matrix plated an important role in affecting the tensile behavior of nanocomposite produced.

In present study, silver nanoparticles were synthesized from aqueous leaf extract of I. cylindrica at two different leaf conditions; fresh leaves and hot-air oven dried leaves. Biosynthesized silver nanoparticles were characterized by UV-visible spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Maximum absorption was recorded between 400 nm to 500 nm. FESEM analysis revealed that the silver nanoparticles predominantly form spherical shapes. The particles sizes were ranging from 22-37 nm. The elemental composition of the synthesized silver nanoparticles was confirmed by using energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) analysis. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) confirmed the reducing and stabilizing actions came from biomolecules associated with I. cylindrica leaf extract. Thus in this investigation, an environmentally safe method to synthesized silver nanoparticles using local plant extract was successfully established.
