Documentary poetry has no unified definition, but one defining line is that it combines artistic talent along with factual material from the real world or the documents of real witnesses. It is a method of writing that mixes texts for make ethnographic research. However, documentary refers to the poetry of witness through which verses make existing documentation created from manifold viewpoints, witnesses’ interpretations, and dialogues. It is a case study of people, events, and places; the poet can test a social and human case, through his artistic talent of writing. However, a poet is expected to transfer not only the witnesses’ perspectives but his own as well. These tendencies are colorized in an attempt to portray a new version of the truth. This paper aims at investigating dramatic monologue in Frank Bidart’s poems. It discusses the way... more This paper aims at investigating dramatic monologue in Frank Bidart’s poems. It discusses the way Bidart was affected by certain poets in terms of the implication of the dramatic monologue device and the power that affected his implementation and his application of this particular genre. Bidart proposes that a poet has a lot of inner consciousness. He receives various voices so he can visualize how to begin from varied places and keep a certain distance from the voice that expresses out of its sense, agony, or annoyance. Bidart has to examine the reasons for definite feelings at a particular point in time because one’s emotional state should not be considered for granted. However, a poet should keep some distance from the characters in the poem as well as keep a sort of skepticism concerning oneself. The main concern of this paper is to examine Frank Bidart's concept of dramatic monologue in ... more The main concern of this paper is to examine Frank Bidart's concept of dramatic monologue in some of his poems. The paper explores how Frank Bidart has been influenced by some poets in his use of this device and the forces that influenced his use of this genre. It also examines what new developments he added to this genre and what is his concept of the dramatic monologue as manifested in his poems. Bidart suggests that a poet has many consciousnesses inside him. He hears many voices so he can imagine how to start from a different place and to have some distance from the voice that speaks out of its feeling, pain, or anger. He has to analyze the causes of a certain feeling at a certain time because one's feelings at a certain time should not be taken for granted. Yet, he has to have some distance between him and the characters in the poem. There should be a kind of skepticism about oneself. While many critics refer to Frost as a modernist poet, a mysterious personality who manipulated rare celebrities with an exceptionally tough private life, or a rural poet of New England. Frost’s character also lobbed authors and critics at diverse guidelines. Most of these critics of poetry consider and expound that Frost’s long-used set design of rhyme, meter, and rhythm oblige the poet’s understanding and obstruct his distinctiveness.
