The aim of the current study was to assess the perceived stress, life satisfaction and self-estee... more The aim of the current study was to assess the perceived stress, life satisfaction and self-esteem of women studying in co-education and uni-gender institutions. The sample comprised a total of 200 female students, 100 from uni-gender institutions and 100 from co-education institutions. Convenience and purposive sampling techniques were used to collect the data. The standardized Urdu versions of Perceived Stress Scale, Satisfaction with Life Scale and Self-esteem Scale were used to collect the responses of students. SPSS (19th version) was used to analyze the data. Findings showed that women studying in uni-gender institutions are more stressed as compared to female students of co-education institutions but their self-esteem and life satisfaction remain unaffected. The present study was conducted to explore the effect of dark complexion on individual’s self -es... more The present study was conducted to explore the effect of dark complexion on individual’s self -esteem, self- efficacy and level of confidence. It also explored the significance of complexion in considering marriage proposals, marital adjustment and gender differences. The sample of ten individuals was taken which include: three males and three females with dark complexion, parents of a dark girl and parents of a fair boy. Qualitative research method was used and semi structured interviews were conducted for data collection. Grounded theory was used to analyze the results. Results revealed that females with dark complexion report higher self esteem and self efficacy as compared to males with dark complexion. Both dark males and females avoid social gathering, adopt different coping strategies including positive approach towards life, altruistic behavior, enhanced inner beauty and focus on education to compensate for the criticism of others. Complexion also plays an important role in seeking marriage proposals and marital adjustment. Parents of dark girl tend to give less preference to fair complexion in marriages whereas parents of a boy with fair complexion seek fair daughter- in-law. Research investigations will increase the acceptance of dark individuals in our culture and identify the prejudice attitude of society toward dark individuals.
