Although it is most commonly found on the axilla, it can also present on the thighs, perineum, vulva, inframammary region, and groin. EBT mimicking a Bartholin’s abscess is extremely rare. Case presentation: Here, we report the case of a 31-year-old nulliparous woman who presented to our gynecology clinic with a complaint of right-sided vulvar swelling. An initial diagnosis of Bartholin’s abscess was made after clinical examination. This was surgically removed using marsupialization. However, following histopathological & immuno-histochemical evaluation, a confirmatory diagnosis of ectopic breast tissue was made. Conclusion: Indeed, our case re-emphasizes the absolute need for histopathological examination of every tumor notwithstanding the nature of the presentation, site of occurrence, and/or initial diagnosis. Furthermore, although rare, EBT...

It is sometimes called lipoma with osseous element. It can occur in any part of the body ranging from intracranial cavity to different musculoskeletal regions. We presented a case seen in a 40 years old Nigerian woman with a non-enlarging, non-tender swelling in the right leg just below the knee joint medially. The diagnosis was confirmed by histology after excisional biopsy which examination showed sheets of matured adipocytes traversed into lobules by fibro collagenous strands. Osteolipoma is still relatively rare. However, they are benign and should not be confused with other sinister lesions.

Presentation of Case: A diagnosis of endometrial osseus metaplasia was confirmed histologically in three women undergoing diagnostic hysteroscopy as part of infertility evaluation. They all had chronic vaginal discharge and a preceding history of induced second trimester abortion. Two of the patients were referred for evaluation before in-vitro-fertilization (IVF). Hysteroscopy was done with a 30° telescope, initially using a 2-channel diagnostic sheath, which was later replaced with a 4-channel operating sheath for tissue retrieval. Discussion: Endometrial osseus metaplasia is a rare condition characterized by the presence of mature or immature bone in the endometrial cavity. Endometrial retention of embryonic tissue following an abortion is the commonest theory of ...

It represents a reactivation of infection in people with moderate to high immunity against mycobacterium tuberculosis. Lesions can develop in all ages, as a collection of discrete, red-brown papules that subsequently coalesce to form an indolent asymptomatic plaque on the affected site. Diagnosis constitutes a major challenge as the most definitive investigative modality, mantoux test is not always positive. Histological examination and initiation of antitubercular therapy usually leads to diagnosis and clinical cure respectively. Objective: We report a case of Lupus Vulgaris of external nose, a rare, underreported and commonly misdiagnosed condition in Nigeria.

This report describes jejunal salivary choristoma (JSC) causing recurring episodes of abdominal discomfort in a 5-year-old girl. Exploratory laporatomy revealed a pale yellow subserosal jejunal lesion. Wedge resection of the lesion and repair of the bowel were performed. The child did well postoperatively and has since that time been free of pain at follow-up. Histopathological examination of the resected lesion revealed salivary gland choriostoma. Literature review (PUBMED search engine) revealed no previous report of this rare clinicopathologic entity. We conclude that choriostoma should be considered a possible differential when evaluating abdominal complaint in children.

Endometriosis is defined as a chronic gynecologic disease which is characterized by the presence of endometrial glands and stroma in anatomical sites and organs outside the uterine cavity. The exact prevalence of endometriosis is difficult to determine because many women remain asymptomatic. However, endometriosis affects about 10% to 15% of women. Thoracic endometriosis (TES) is the most common endometriosis outside the abdominopelvic cavity. It refers to endometriosis within the thoracic cavity including the lung parenchyma, diaphragm, and pleural surfaces. It can manifest as catamenial chest pain, pneumothorax, hemoptysis, hemothorax, catamenial haemoptysis, and pulmonary nodules. Case Summary. A 39-years-old married female presented with recurrent right-sided chest pain of 22 years duration, recurrent cough of more than 20 years and progressive breathlessness of a month duration. The chest pain is pleuritic, and it often starts few days to the onset of her menses a...

Approximately 10% of pleomorphic adenomas occur in the minor salivary glands, with the palate being the most common site. Mesenchymal elements in PSA are capable of giving rise to various components that are usually seen in the tumor. Still, the presence of calcifications either from degenerations or the mesenchymal elements is rare. We are reporting a case of giant pleomorphic adenoma of the soft palate with dystrophic calcification and significant upper aerodigestive obstruction in a 49-year-old Nigerian. Surgical excision was done under general anesthesia via oral route.

Extra-renal sites of AML are uncommon though it can occur in any part of the body. Reports of cutaneous AML are rare in the literature. We present a case of an 11-year-old female with a polypoidal swelling on the nose that was noticed a few weeks after birth, which progressively increased in size till it was causing nasal blockage. This cutaneous lesion is different from a renal angiomyolipoma because it lacks features of tuberous sclerosis, non-invasive, absence of epithelioid cells and negative HMB-45 staining. Histopathology shows a mixture of blood vessels, mature adipocytes and smooth muscle. These unique features distinguish this lesion from other possible differentials such as angiomyoma and myolipoma. Histopathology and immunohistochemistry confirm the swelling as angiomyolipoma of the nose. We concluded that histopathology and immunohistochemistry are important diagnostic tools for cutaneous AML irrespective of gender, age of onset and site of lesion.
