In this study we examined the influence of the predominant form of cell existence of and the exometabolite production by P. aeruginosa strains on interspecies interactions, in vitro. Bacterial numbers of P. aeruginosa and E. coli in mixed plankton cultures and biofilms compared with their numbers in single plankton cultures and biofilms changed in a different way, but were in accordance with the form of P. aeruginosa cell existence. The mass of a mixed-species biofilm was greater than the mass of a single-species biofilm. Among the mixed biofilms, the one with the “planktonic” P. aeruginosa strain had the least biomass. The total pyocyanin and pyoverdin levels were found to be lower in all mixed plankton cultures. Despite this, clinical P. aeruginosa strains irrespective of the predominant form of existence (“biofilm” or “planktonic”) had a higher total concentration of exome...

The dose-dependent effect of putrescine on growth characteristics of clinical strains has been established. Cadaverine at a concentration of 1 mmol/l in the culture medium significantly stimulated the accumulation of biomass of the tested strains. The results obtained confirm the destabilizing effect of bacterial amines agents on vaginal Lactobacillus spp. and thus their important direct role in weakening the biological protection of the vaginal microenvironment.

In this regard, products of microbial origin cadaverine and putrescine are of particular attention. The role of polyamines as scavengers of free radicals has been described, but no data of their effect on the leukocyte radical-producing activity have been obtained so far. The aim of the investigation was to study features of hydroxyl radical generation by human leukocytes exposed to microbe-derived polyamines. Materials and methods. Peripheral venous blood samples were obtained from 20 healthy donors. To assess radical production, a luminol-dependent chemiluminescence reaction was carried out with blood leukocytes pre-incubated with cadaverine (0.01 M) and putrescine (0.01 M), measured on a Luminoskan Ascent Thermo Labsystems luminometer (USA) for 180 min. For statistical analysis, a...
