Accordingly, we present methods for indexing and segmenting color images, where we use digital distance functions generated by neighborhood sequences to mea- sure distance between colors. Moreover, we explain the usability of neighborhood se- quences within the field of image database retrieval, to find similar images from a database for a given query image. Our approach considers special distance functions to measure the distance between feature vectors extracted from the images, which allows more flexible queries for the users.

This study briefly presents our surgical strategies, the selected implants and the audiological results. Method: Objective hearing threshold was measured using an auditory brainstem response and middle latency response audiometry. Structural imaging of high resolution temporal bone computer tomography and inner ear MR scan was performed in support of all patients. Images revealed bilateral cochlear malformation in seven patients. Three ears with common cavity deformity, two ears with incomplete partition type I and three ears suffering from cochlear hypoplasia were all rehabilitated using cochlear implantation. The type of the electrode and the surgical technique were individually determined reflective of the type of malformation. The success of the surgery and potential postoperative complications were duly noted and fully registered. Postoperative audiological measurements were performed and the results were analyzed. Results: The average audiological follow-up was 40.3 months. The average free field, pure-tone threshold of speech frequencies (0.5–3 kHz) gained postoperatively were within the range of 32.5–41.6 dB. In two of the procedures, a cerebrospinal fluid gusher did occur and was successfully managed intraoperatively, all without any postoperative complications. Conclusion: Temporal bone high resolution CT and inner ear MRI imaging are mandatory to detect and characterize the inner ear malformation. Early implantation of malformed cochlea is crucial towards achieving ideal postoperative audiological results. Notably, an intraoperative gusher is not regarded as a contraindication of the cochlear implantation.

METHODS: One hundred and thirty-four patients underwent an upper panendoscopy as indicated by the typical reflux symptoms and were also investigated with regard to somnolence. Sleepiness was evaluated by Epworth Sleepiness Scale, which was compared to the severity of endoscopic findings (Savary-Miller/modified by Siewert). Patients with psychiatric disorders or being on sedato-hypnotics as well as shift workers were excluded from the study. The relationship between the severity of the reflux disease and daytime somnolence was analyzed with the help of multivariate regression analysis. RESULTS: A positive tendency was found between the severity of the reflux disease and the corresponding Epworth Sleepiness Scale. In the case of the more severe type-Savary-Miller III-at least a mild hypersomnia was found. For this group daytime somnolence was significantly higher than in the case of the non-erosive type of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease representing the mildest stage of reflux disease. CONCLUSION: The severity of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease influences daytime somnolence.

According to the judgment that the European Community (28 states, since 2013) does not follow a single growth pattern, based on their history and actual economic relationships, different national economies form economic blocs and these blocs follow diverse growth patterns within the Union. At the first step we tried to discover the mainstream of modern economic growth theories, and found some relationship between these theories and the empirical analyses. In the empirical part of this study we identified different growth paths and classified growth groups for the 28 EU member countries with a cluster analysis. At the final step we applied regression method to find some correlation between historical growth rate and current nominal GDP level.

The existing approaches for Minkowski metrics considering distance functions based on local neighborhoods are not suitable for this task in their present form. We can overcome this difficulty with considering the minimum of such distance functions. In this way we can take full advantage of the former theoretical and applied results. We consider several possibilities to measure the error of approximation and propose corresponding distance functions for optimal approximation. A fast chamfering algorithm is also provided to generate the approximate distance values for applications in digital domains.

It has been propo.sed that a small hook-shaped cape, now submerged, was present off the site during settlement from about 700 to 389 BC. Since 1992, however, most of Kaulonia's seafloor sector has been buried by a thick (to 4 m) sand cover. This investigation resumes study of Kaulonia's margin by highresolution seismic survey, analysis of sediment in cores and excavated sections buried along the coast, and petrologic examination of rock used for construction of a temple, the site's major structure. The sector, located in the tectonically active Calabrian arc, has been subject to considerable elevation rise of land onshore, and an equivalent rate of seafloor subsidence (~1 mm/yr). A distinct Holocene sequence, composed of beachrock-type sandstone and fluvial-marinetransported conglomerate, in sediment sections landward of the beach can be traced seaward to depths of 7 m about 300 m from the present shoreline. Correlation of the sequence helps define changes of coastline position from before Greek settlement to the present. Rather than a generally progressive migration landward of the shoreline in response to relative sea-level rise, the coast has experienced more complex shifts (sea-to-land, land-to-sea, and return to land) due to up-and-down motion in the sector between the alluvial plain behind the beach and innermost shelf. By the mid-Holocene, the shoreline had advanced seaward, resulting in coastal emergence, and it did not return landward (resubmerging the margin) until after the site's abandonment; submergence was complete by late Roman time. We now recognize a broad arcuate headland, rather than a small hooked cape, seaward of the site •2500 years ago. Without a lagoon, sufficiently deep lake, or man-made port available for protected anchorage, vessels sailing to Kaulonia for trade were either beached or anchored close to shore and, perhaps seasonally, within the mouth of the Assi River. Composition of beachrock-type sandstone in Holocene sections on land is comparable to that offshore and also to sandstone used for temple base construction. Extensive sandstone exposures along this coast may have been one reason why Greeks selected the site for settlement.

The clinical impact of these assessments is not well characterized in clinic settings. Aims: This study was designed to evaluate the impact of pre treatment psychiatric evaluations and interventions on the treatment outcomes in a cohort of psychiatric-risk HCV patients. Method: Medical records of 119 HCV patients who were referred for pre therapy psychiatric evaluations were reviewed retrospectively. Reasons for referral, psychiatrists' diagnosis and recommendations were obtained. These data were correlated with viral, demographic and treatment data of individual patients. Results: Of the 119 patients, 61.3% were males. Mean age was 39.7 years (range 39.7-72.0). 73.9% were past intravenous drug users. 4.2% were of Asian origin. Genotype 1 accounted for 32.7%. 68.7% of treated patients were treated with pegyated interferon and ribavirin. 26.9% had a suspected current psychiatric symptom or illness which led to the referral. 63.9% had only a past psychiatric illness. 9.2% were referred as a routine. Most common reason for referral was either current or past history of depression (21.8% and 57.1% respectively). Current or past anxiety was present in 5% and 10.1% patients. Past history of psychosis present in 8.4% in patients. 40.6% of patients who were referred as having current psychiatric illness had a formal current psychiatric diagnosis at the psychiatric consultation. Only 25% of patients with past psychiatric illness had a formal current psychiatric diagnosis. Overall 72.3% had no current psychiatric condition. The common psychiatric condition diagnosed was depression at 13.2% followed by anxiety 4.2%. 26.9% were recommended to have regular psychiatric follow ups. 9.2% were prescribed anti psychiatric medications. 6.7% were recommended to defer their HCV therapy. Table 1 Conclusions: HCV patients with current psychiatric diagnosis had significantly higher number of psychiatric side effects and psychiatric interventions. But they could be treated without significant reduction in SVR rates. Table1: Treatment Outcomes *3 in current psychiatric diagnosis group and 9 in normal group are yet to complete the therapy W1009
