Mohammed Arkoun is an Algerian thinker who was educated at the University of Sorbonne, French and... more Mohammed Arkoun is an Algerian thinker who was educated at the University of Sorbonne, French and acquired French citizenship. He combined Western methodology to interprete the Islamic Script. In politics, he was against the concept of the Islamic state because its undemocratic character. He proposed the Islamic thinkers not to be afraid of modernity that comes from the Western world. He even suggested the Islamic thinkers to interprete Al Qur’an by using the modern sociology method that comes from the West instead of traditional methods. So, that modern method would enrich the interpretation.

It becomes a break-through against the traditional ways of thinking, namely essentialism considering empirism and rationalism and the ontology of rationalistic being as the only ways of thinking. The traditional thinkers has agreed to dismish any possibility to change the answer to the question of being. The existentialist thinker made a revolt against that traditional philosopher of essentialism which had developed since the era of Plato and Aristoteles as a deterministic philosophy. Jean-Paul Sartre, well-known French philosopher was one of existentialist thinker who discusses human as an existential subject. According to him, existentialism was also a philosophy of being, but he resists rationalizing it. In his thought, existentialism is the personal experience of human as a subject. As a country with the largest Muslims population in the world, Indonesia has an overwhelming numb... more As a country with the largest Muslims population in the world, Indonesia has an overwhelming number of communities with different religions, such as Protestant, Catholic, Buddhist, Hindu, Confucianism and other local religions from ancestors that influence various Indonesian people's beliefs. This situation can raise the tendency of conflicts between the majority groups of certain religions and other minority religions in Indonesia. This paper aims to explore the conditions of ethnic communities in Alor District, East Nusa Tenggara Province, who live harmoniously among different religions such as Muslims and Christians. Alor District has obtained a trophy of 'Harmony Award' 2017 from the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia. Their thoughts to abolish the absolutism of the state and the government have influenced a lot of people, because absolutism is not suitable for the machienary era after the industrial revolution. On the contrary the state must guard the property right of the people according to the contract social based on the constitution. But for most of the under-developed countries, empirical evidences show that democracy is still an idea. The government gives their first priority to develop their countries rather than to grow the welfare of their people. On the contrary, people must sacrifice by giving up their properties such as their ancestor land, forest and river for the sake of development due to the government’s plan.
